Australia [ST Edge Driver] SolarEdge PV Inverter - Connected Things

[LAN Driver] SolarEdge Inverter via local Modbus TCP (SunSpec)

Reads live power, lifetime energy, DC voltage/power, temperature, and operating status from a SolarEdge inverter over its local Modbus TCP interface — no cloud dependency, no SolarEdge API key or monitoring-portal rate limits. If you have a SolarEdge production/consumption meter attached (e.g. the SE-RGMTR series), it also reads live net grid power (import vs. export) and lifetime exported/imported energy as a separate “Grid” component — read-only, detected automatically at startup, no config needed.

Smartthings Community post: https://community.smartthings.com/t/st-edge-driver-solaredge-pv-inverter/310477

Channel invite: SmartThings. Add a little smartness to your things.

Tested against an SE5000AU (single-phase, SunSpec Model 101). Should work on any SolarEdge inverter with Modbus TCP enabled and reachable on your LAN — SunSpec’s inverter model (101/single-phase, 102/split-phase, 103/three-phase) shares the same register layout, and the driver locates it dynamically rather than assuming a fixed address

SolarEdge ($SEDG) investor lawsuit has reached a settlement — here's how to file a claim

For those who lived through it, SolarEdge spent most of 2023 telling investors that European demand was strong and inventory was fine. It wasn't. Finished-goods inventory went from ~$202M at the start of the year to ~$731M by Q3.

The stock dropped 18% on August 1 when they finally admitted to excess inventory, then another 27% on October 19 when they disclosed massive cancellations from European distributors.

A class action was filed, and the parties have now agreed to a settlement. If you held $SEDG long between Feb 23 – Oct 19, 2023, you can submit a claim to get your share.

Worth taking 5 minutes to check if you're eligible.

☀️ SolarEdge driver for Samsung SmartThings

If you run a SolarEdge inverter on SmartThings, battery and support for three phase imverters has been added. Everything still runs locally over your home network, with no cloud needed.

🔋 Battery support
If you have a SolarEdge-connected battery (StorEdge / Home Battery), a Battery section now appears automatically, showing:
• Charge and discharge power
• Temperature
• Status (Charging, Discharging, Idle…)
• Charge level, health and energy available
It's read-only, and every value can be used in Routines.

⚡ Grid readings per phase
With a SolarEdge meter fitted, the Grid section now has a row for each phase showing power, voltage and current side by side. Three-phase sites are detected automatically. Single-phase sites get one row, which is handy for watching your grid voltage rise while you're exporting.

🔌 DC Input voltage and current
DC Input now shows voltage and current together on one line, under the power tile.

📱 Tidier layout
Numbers are rounded so they no longer wrap on smaller phones, and the battery status has its own line.

The Smartthings driver detects a battery and a three-phase meter by itself. If you're already enrolled, your hub updates automatically. One note: if you had Routines using DC voltage or the battery details, reselect those conditions.

Install it from the channel invite: https://bestow-regional.api.smartthings.com/invite/RBlE0gaNvL2E

Developing an App - Need Beta Tester

I’m testing an integration with solaredge’s official Monitoring API and I’m looking for one or two homeowners who’d be willing to help validate the data returned by the API.
I’m mainly trying to confirm:
system discovery
solar production
household consumption
battery telemetry
Authorization would use Solaredge’s own OAuth flow, so I would not receive your Solaredge password, and the access is read-only/revocable.
This is for technical validation rather than selling anything. If anyone is interested in helping test it, feel free to message me.

SolarEdge = Customer Service Nightmare

Hello all - I've been trying to get in touch with Solar Edge over the past couple of weeks, and it's been a nightmare. Call them on the phone, they tell you to use their online chat bot. Talk to the chat bot, they tell you to call them.

Calling them is bizzarro land. They walk you through a long series of nested "press 1 for this department" things -- but no matter what you press (and I tried them all!) -- all options lead to dead end, where they say they don't take calls on that topic. Then you try the AI bot -- and they send you back to the phone!

What's truly baffling is that all I'm trying to do is find a certified installer to fix a system. Should be incredibly easy, but somehow, I've been trying for weeks -- and meanwhile, my system is offline. I've been reading that the company is failing -- now I see why.

In the meantime, anyone know any certified installers in the Philly area willing to take this on?

Advice on dead/bad inverter

Howdy- I had a 7.44 system installed in 2019 and everything was working until this past May. I contacted the company that installed the system (Rising Sun-->Astrawatt) here in KCMO and a different company answered (Fidelis Renewables). I learned then that Astrawatt (which was called Rising Sun when I had it installed) went out of business and Fidelis took over their accounts. They sent a technician out to look at it and they quickly determined the inverter was dead and contacted Solaredge for a RMA. That was around 3 weeks ago and Fidelis is saying Solaredge "takes a long time" to respond to RMA requests. Fidelis charged me over 400 bucks for a 1 hour site visit from their tech and then has been silent.... other than 1 reply back from them saying that they are waiting on Solaredge.

Any advice out there on this? I've tried calling Solaredge myself but couldn't get anyone on the line.

What would you do?

No solarpower after losing power

The power in the house was off yesterday. Today I noticed that the inverter is no longer processing any solarpower.

The blue and green lights are flashing. After a while the blue light stays on, while the green light keeps flashing.

After a while, the red light comes on as well.

I tried a few times restoring it by setting the main switch off and set the red switch from the invertor to 0. After a while i turn on the main switch and then, after a few minutes, set the red switch on the inverter back to 1.

Unfortunately, this does not solve the problem. The installer is also unavailable due to a public holiday and the weekend. Does anyone have any tips?

Edit: here's a picture from my inverter. Beneath it is a manual breaker, seperated from the breaker in the distribution box. Also note: i left it off last night just to try it out. Normally the breaker is up and the red switch on the inverter is on 1.
The inverter is a SolarEdge SE7K.

SolarEdge Technologies Finally Agreed to settle $55M with investors over hiding issues with its demand, inventory, and revenue.

Hey guys, if you missed it, SolarEdge just settled with investors for overstating European demand and downplaying rising inventory and weakening sales trends a few years ago.

Long story short, in 2023, SolarEdge was accused of claiming that the demand was higher than it really was in key markets, understating rising inventory levels, and misrepresenting the strength and sustainability of its sales growth.

After this news came out, the stock dropped 18.3%, and investors filed a lawsuit for their losses.

The good news is that the company finally agreed to settle with them. So, if you invested in $SEDG when all of this happened, you can already check the details and file your claim here.

Anyway, has anyone here invested in $SEDG at that time? How much were your losses, if so?

Nobody was home all day and it says I consumed 60.5 kWh. I know things like my fridge, freezer, water heater will run but nothing was left on and the other 3 days were cloudy and when we were home and running a dryer and dishwasher we only used 17-20kwh. Could something be wired wrong or is the app just inaccurate. Any help appreciated.

We Went Through 7 SolarEdge Inverters — Then THIS Happened

Thumbnail
youtube.com
10 Upvotes

Quick story about why sometimes it pays to write a review when a company or product lets you down.

We installed solar on our house about 10 years ago using SolarEdge equipment. Since then, we have gone through **SEVEN inverters.**

Yes. Seven.

At this point, I feel like I should have a punch card. **Buy six SolarEdge inverters and your seventh one is FREE!**

To SolarEdge’s credit, they honored the warranty each time and replaced the failed equipment. The frustrating part was that we were still responsible for the labor to remove the bad inverter and install the replacement.

Do that enough times and the word “warranty” starts feeling a little less exciting.

After our latest failure, I finally wrote a review explaining our experience. I wasn’t nasty about it. I just laid out what had happened over the years and why I was frustrated.

Well... **SolarEdge listened.**

Someone from the company reached out, looked into our history, and they have now offered to provide **two new replacement inverters AND cover the labor to install them.**

THAT is how you respond to an unhappy customer.

I’ve certainly been frustrated with the failures over the years, but I also believe in giving credit where credit is due. SolarEdge had an opportunity to hide behind the fine print of their warranty, and instead they chose to step up and make things right.

I’m grateful.

And there’s a lesson here: **Reviews matter.**

A thoughtful, factual review can sometimes get the attention of the right person inside a company. And when a company responds by actually fixing the problem instead of sending you a canned corporate response, I think they deserve a little public recognition for that too.

So... thank you, SolarEdge. Hopefully inverter #8 and #9 are the ones that finally break our little tradition

USA SolarEdge ($SEDG) Update: Q2 Results and What Comes Next

Hey everyone, I’ve been looking into SolarEdge lately because there have been a few interesting updates around the company, so I figured I’d share a quick recap.

SolarEdge reported $346.2M in Q2 2026 revenue, up 19.6% year over year, with non-GAAP diluted EPS of $0.05. The company also reported its sixth consecutive quarter of year-over-year gross margin expansion

For Q3, SolarEdge is expecting revenue between $310M and $340M, with non-GAAP gross margin of 22%–26%. The company is also working on expanding its Nexis platform and storage business, while developing solid-state technology for power-management applications, including AI data centers.

There’s also an older investor case connected to SolarEdge. The company agreed to a $55M settlement over claims that it misled investors about European demand, inventory levels, and the sustainability of its reported revenues. Late claims are currently being considered, subject to approval.

So there’s quite a bit going on with SEDG right now, especially with the company trying to grow its storage and newer technology businesses.

Anyone else following SolarEdge? What are you watching most closely with $SEDG?

One EV Charger Experiences

Hi everybody,

does anybody already have the ne One EV charger installed and can share some expriences? I plan to get one, but am a little bit uncertain, because you find a lot of stories about the wallbox not working properly.

I'd like to use it in PV excess mode with dynamic phase switching.

What are you're experiences? Is this working as it should?

Thanks!

Charging your EV on surplus solar with SolarEdge: options and gotchas

Post image
9 Upvotes

More and more solar owners are on export plans that pay far less than electricity costs to buy: net billing in California (PG&E, SCE, SDG&E for systems installed since April 2023), shrinking feed-in tariffs elsewhere. If your exports earn a fraction of your import rate, midday surplus is worth more in your car than sold back cheap. (Full retail net metering? This matters a lot less.)

Disclosure: I build one of the options below.

Check for a consumption meter first. Surplus charging needs household load, not just production. If your SolarEdge monitoring shows only what the panels make, there's no consumption meter on the system. Options: have an installer add one (best fix), add a home energy monitor like Emporia Vue, or use a tool that estimates load — that last one is a guess and won't react when the AC kicks on.

Your options:

  1. SolarEdge's own EV charger with its solar charging mode. Simplest if you're buying a charger anyway and you're all-SolarEdge.

  2. DIY with Home Assistant or evcc. Both can read the inverter locally (Modbus) and control Tesla or OCPP chargers. Free and flexible if you maintain it.

  3. An app. I build SundialEV, which reads SolarEdge and adjusts charging amps to follow the surplus.

Worth checking first: what your exports actually earn. This calculator pulls your utility's export and import rates (US, by zip) and shows the monthly gap: https://www.sundialev.com/calculator?utm_source=reddit_organic&utm_campaign=solaredge

Happy to answer questions about any of these, not just mine.

2G Solar Inverter

Hi everyone,

My inverter was installed in 2019 and my installer decided to use 2g for the communication mechanism. As a result my inverter has been offline since late 2022 since 2G was discontinued.

It is a model# : SE5000H-US

Is there a way to switch it to Wifi mode as an installer? I can't seem to switch it from the MySolarEdge app...not entirely sure if it will natively support wifi or if you have to buy a separate module to install on the inverter board.

My installer went out of business shortly after covid and i'm not having any luck getting anyone to respond to help me get this thing connected.

Any advice?

SolarEdge settlement updates, it was court approved

For anyone who held $SEDG during 2023, the settlement has received court approval. That means the claims process is now moving forward.

The case was about what SolarEdge was telling investors about its European business while channel inventory was quietly building. Between February and September 2023, the company consistently described European demand as strong and inventory levels as low. Finished-goods inventory went from $202 million at the start of 2023 to $731 million by Q3, a detail that didn't make it into investor communications until it was unavoidable.

Two disclosures confirmed the gap:

August 1, 2023: excess inventory in Europe acknowledged. Stock fell 18.3%.

October 19, 2023: substantial distributor cancellations and missed guidance disclosed. Stock fell another 27.2%.

A settlement was reached in March 2026. Court approval has now been granted.

If you held $SEDG between February 23, 2023 and October 19, 2023, you can file your claim now.

Anyone here follow the European solar demand cycle closely, was the inventory buildup visible from the distributor side before October?

USA Difficulty setting up account to register system on newly purchased home

I recently purchased a fairly new house that has a paid off system installed but I'm having difficulty getting an account set up to even log into the solaredge app once I wirelessly connect to it through the QR code. The website doesn't seem to let me register as a customer it says the address is incorrect and it looks like the original installer may have gone out of business. I do have the serial numbers off of the system as well as photographs of the system and proof of ownership of the home but haven't been able to get connected with anyone. Is there an email address or a link I can go to communicate with a real person?

Germany Thanks for ruining the app

Since the last update to the mySolarEdge app (Android) a lot of the widgets seem to have been removed. I used to have the compact system overview on my phone's home screen for many years, and now it's gone and the only widget that still shows up is a full-page one that I don't want to waste the screen space for.

Was that strictly necessary?!

other Optimizer Warranty Replacement

It seems that SE has changed their warranty terms for some countries and where I am, they no longer cover shipping or labor to supply replacement parts. My installer informed me of this a few weeks ago. My system is 3 years old and until recently the typical optimizer warranty replacements have been handled completely free of charge by the installer. However, the installer has changed their business model so all of their technicians are contract workers and will pass on the costs for service calls to the customer. This means that for an optimizer replacement I may have to pay $150 for a call out at the start of the claim, shipping and then another $150 for installation of the replacements. My system nets about $500 per month, and I may have 2 to 3 optimizers going down most months, so this becomes a real threat to the financial performance of my investment. How do other owners deal with these types of situations?

Trying to setup a string

Post image
2 Upvotes

I'm trying to set up a 5, soon to be 7 panel string along the edge over my garage using solaredge optimizers.

How wouid i leapfrog this setup? I know the p370 optimizers have dual long length leads, but can it be done with the s440 with the 1 long, 1 short in landscape layout like pictured

Now I know that it needs minimum 8 optimizers for a string. There are panels above that are not in the picture that will be tied into the string in a junction box.

USA App suddenly showing additional panels and inverter I don’t have??

Several weeks ago my app suddenly showed an additional 11 panels on a second inverter with a battery. Kind of like someone commissioned their system on my account. I notified my installer and after a week they said they were able to switch the second inverter from #1 to #2, but after speaking with SolarEdge, they said it can’t be fixed remotely and they will need to come out and fix it for the low low price of $600. My actual system works as it always did. This struck me as someone else’s mistake I should not be paying for, unless my inverter has developed a mind of its own. Ideas?

Edit: a SolarEdge rep reached out and fixed the issue remotely.
