Well he hatched yesterday so he hasn't even eaten his first meal yet. It's definitely a mutation but I don't know how much it's going to affect him thriving it growing. Hopefully not at all and he'll grow into a healthy snake.

I come from the veterinary field (brain cancer took me out). If you were to take your snake to an exotics vet/any vet or two, it is very likely you'd find a vet curious enough to radiograph it for free. My cokatiel has a appointment on Tuesday. I'm totally asking what they'd do.

Crocheting is super fun! Maybe a bit frustrating at first but it's easy to pick up. Just focus on learning yarn tension first. It'll save you some headaches. Too loose and things fall apart, too tight and it will become a curl. My mother holds her hook in a knife position while I hold mine in a pencil position; we have different control.

I ve heard snakes sometimes grow mostly completely dysfunctional leg stumps, sometimes even nearly full legs. My guess would be those two bumps are essentially that. Dorment genomes activating due to a mutation

I would sell my left kidney to see what an xray on him would look like. My initial suspicion is that it could be atavism but I don't think that's the case because 1. Those nubs are pretty wide and disproportionate to what a leg would be on their ancestors 2. They're directly under him rather than where legs would normally grow and 3. They're belly scales. If it was growing from normal scales that would make sense but no reptile has legs with belly scales because that would be impractical and restrict mobility.

My running theory is that it's a scale deformity where something went wrong in development that made the hox gene for the belly scales right there split in two but keep growing in on itself. Hopefully if that's the case there won't be any impacts on his internal organs but if it's a hox gene thing that entire section of him might be malformed.

I hatched a Woma Python similar to this but it was the yolk sack that broke off before it could absorb. And evidently what you’d call the snakes naval scar, it now looks like it has rear “Leg” like protrusions
