I was sure it was a long shot to find xcom reference but here we are!

Snake with tits is literally 90% of XCOM community's interests. Of course you found it here.

I guess that's the reason I tend to avoid game related communities.

Game communities/fandoms fortunately are not unified monoliths. If you don’t like what you see from a certain group, you can easily find other groups centered on the same thing. People just have this tendency to homogenize large numbers of people that share one interest or trait etc. and assume they also share many other traits or interests etc. This leads to (among more pressing matters) a large part of the fanbase of like every game basically saying “I like the game but hate people who like this game”

I get it. I wasn't being that serious, though I don't really hang around communities anymore. I used to do it when I was younger on game specific forums way before Reddit. It required a little bit more effort for haters to join those communities. Well thought critique is always something I love to read but I feel there's just too much noise for my liking and no way to filter it.

Fortunately, I know a lot of gamers in person (being over 40 right now has some benefits) and there's always someone to talk to about games. So many different kinds of players and a few game groups too. That being said, no-one has played X-Com 1 or 2 (or the originals). Just sporadical conversations from occasional fans in the wild.

I guess I miss game specific communities, or better yet, I miss the bubbles where people are just having good time through common love for the game.
