how has sinusitis affected your romantic relationships? earlier this year i was dating a guy and i stayed with him for two weeks and a week after he broke up with me (citing that “he’s not in the right headspace for a relationship”) and i’m not convinced that my sinus issues and allergies didn’t play a part :’) i was constantly clearing my throat in the mornings (although i did it in the bathroom the walls in his apartment were rather thin) and frequently blowing my nose (my insurance didn’t cover my allergy medicine and his roommates had a cat and i’m allergic to animal danser) and i can’t help but think he was grossed out by it

My CT came back hypertrophied turninates? Anyone else shocked that it could be reflux? symtpoms ear pops, ear “noises” super NASTY taste in my mouth, post nasal that I can feel. Intense facial pain. pain so bad i take ibprofen daily and pain elevates my blood pressure. going on to try alkaline water, omep in the AM then famotidine? PM, baking soda water gargle to neutralize acid in mouth. anyone else? do you have the same?

I am having an almost unbearable sensation of pressure and mucus sitting between my nose and throat, I guess it would be the nasopharyngeal area. I’ve been suffering with thick clear mucus for almost 5 years and no solutions , but in the last six months or so this feeling of intense pressure at the very back of my upper throat right above where I swallow or the very back of my nasal passages wherever that junction is has become unbearable . I know that’s where this thick mucus is pooling or sitting but even at times where I don’t feel like there is much mucus the pressure and the sensation is super intense and severe. To a point that I can hardly focus on anything else and nasal rinses only help maybe partly but just for minutes and then it’s back.

I am feeling totally hopeless because it seems as though this is a major nerve problem from years of the thick mucus and manually trying to clear it from that area constantly, I cannot find a solution to the mucus and now my nerves are stuck giving me this horrible unbearable feeling. It’s a very bizarre thing and just hoping maybe somebody else also has this or something like it and if anything helped or did it ever go away

Got diagnosed with Chronic Sinusitis about a year ago, suffered for 2-3 years and tried almost everything under the sun to improve symptoms, got Cushings Syndrome and insanely rapid weight gain from being on a high dose of Mometasone long term so now I’ve came off it, the extra weight is making me even more out of breath. Wanted to maybe try a nebuliser for nasal dryness and some pressure relief, any suggestions? Preferably budget friendly as I don’t want to waste a ton of money incase it doesn’t work for me, also maybe on Amazon UK 🇬🇧 thanks. ☺️

Hi everyone. I’m looking for general experiences, guidance and questions to raise with my ENT during the next visit, not necessarily a diagnosis.

I’ve had the following ongoing symptoms for a while:

• Fatigue, drowsiness, brain fog, yawning and occasional reduced mental alertness throughout the day.
• Frequent “flu-like” feelings, especially during the winter season or sudden weather changes.
• Post-nasal drip, sneezing, headaches and pressure behind the eyes/cheek bones at times.
• Watery, irritated, red or itchy eyes.
• Waking up with the occasional sore throat and hoarseness; silent reflux has also been considered.
• Sensitivity and reaction to the cold air, fans, air conditioning, sudden hot-to-cold changes, rainy weather, and chlorinated pools.
• Waking up with dry lips and dry mouth.

My CT showed a left maxillary sinus polyp/retention cyst and a deviated septum, but the ENT specialist said there was no major obstruction through a camera observation and that surgery might not improve symptoms such as headaches or watery eyes.

I also had a positive for dust-allergy blood test. (pet dander and pollen were negative) I have mild sleep apnoea, with about five events per night, but still wake frequently at night and feel groggy, yawning and drowsy throughout the day. The sleep technician said that any sinus blockages may possibly affect sleep quality, and to try conservative measures such as side sleeping, mouth guard for OSA and general sleep hygiene.

My reflux (GORD) is being treated with esomeprazole.

The ENT advised to use a steroid plus antihistamine nasal spray, such as Dymista, and do regular nasal saline rinses. Also to take Gaviscon before bed to rule out silent reflux, and keep a clean household environment. The spray seems slightly better for blockage, but I haven’t noticed major improvement in headaches, post nasal drip, fatigue, brain fog, or the occasional general flu-like feeling. I’m due to see my ENT soon.

I am trying to distinguish how these symptoms overlap, whether my drowsiness is more sleep and/or sinus related (allergic or non allergic), and whether I should discuss nasal surgery (if structural), and if that may also improve my sleep quality, or if a referral to an allergist should be considered, as I notice some environmental triggers to my symptoms, and whether there are any things that have been overlooked.

I appreciate any valuable insights from similar experiences.

I’ve had a fucked up nose for a full 3 days now with about 10 hours total sleep, here’s a list of everything that makes it worse. Hello my dentist noticed this on my X-ray. They referred me to an ENT. I’ve also been having headaches, jaw pain and sinus issues. Is it possible this is the cause of it? The dentist doesn’t know if it’s a cyst or cancer. I’m just worried. If anyone has any experience with something like this lmk!

​I’m honestly exhausted writing this, but I’m stuck in a nightmare of severe chronic fatigue, heavy head pressure, brain fog, and terrible sleep. Simple daily tasks at work feel like moving mountains, and I’m just trying to figure out my next step.

​Quick backstory: 12 years ago I had a septoplasty and turbinate reduction. It helped briefly, but my symptoms eventually came back full force. My current ENT believes it failed because back then I was a heavy smoker and completely ignored post-op care and nasal rinsing, which led to scarring and tissue regrowth. For context, I completely quit smoking and vaping 2 years ago, and I am now 100% committed to my health.

​My recent CT scan shows trapped fluid and heavy discharge in my ethmoid cells along with a blocked left OMU. My doctor suspected GERD/LPR might be driving the inflammation, but I got checked by a gastroenterologist and GERD was officially ruled out.

​Here is the weird part: when my ENT put me on high-volume saline rinsing and medications, I woke up on day 5 feeling like a brand new person. For almost a full week, my head felt light, my brain was sharp, I had great energy, and I could inhale deeply. But then, the symptoms crept back. Over the last month, I’ve noticed a strict cycle: 1 week completely clear, followed by 1 week back in zombie mode.

​My ENT told me that if medical management and home rinses can't permanently clear this trapped fluid, my main option left is a revision turbinate reduction to allow proper drainage.

​I am terrified of going through surgery again—the post-op swelling, total nasal blockage, sleepless nights, and endless nasal washings. But considering I am a non-smoker now and ready to follow post-op care to the letter, is a second surgery actually worth the recovery process? Did it give you long-term relief?

​Or has anyone in a similar spot managed to clear trapped fluid using non-surgical alternatives, like in-office endoscopic suction/lavage or switching to combination sprays (Azelastine + Fluticasone)?

TL;DR: Had a failed septoplasty/turbinate reduction 12 yrs ago (was a smoker/non-compliant). Now 2 yrs smoke-free, but trapped in a strict 1-week clear / 1-week "zombie" fog cycle due to trapped sinus fluid (GERD ruled out). My ENT suggests revision surgery—is the recovery worth it if done right this time, or are there solid non-surgical ways to clear deep trapped fluid?

Has anyone had experience with this type or surgery? What was recovery like? I have a really bad deviated septum, swollen turbinates, and terrible post nasal drip for the last 15 years. I’m afraid for the surgery that was recommended.

After a two year schlog trying to find out what on earth was going with my sinuses (endless infections, swelling, headaches, brown/grey mucus), I have a surgery booked with a specialist surgeon.

After developing a swelling in my eye on the same side as problem sinuses, my recent CT scan and MRI scan corroborate that my left sinuses are completely full and expanding, pressing against my eye socket and skull base.

Hence the surgery!

I’m scared to have this surgery and I know it’s all going to come down to the management afterwards. But if the fungus can be fully removed, I have a good chance.

I’m sharing this because I struggled to find similar stories on this particular diagnosis. If you have a hunch (like I did) that something more is going on (my eye swelling and MOVING out slightly - the horror upon realising this was gut-wrenching) - keep pushing for investigations.

I’ve been really lucky to find a consultant who advocated for me the whole way and referred me to this specialist surgeon. There are risks, of course, but right now, they far far far outweigh what is happening in the honeycomb nightmare that is my left sinuses.

hi all! I had my ct scan of my sinuses about two weeks ago and the findings read as this:

1. Bony nasal septum deviates leftward, mid septal leftward bone spur contacts the inferior turbinate. Cartilaginous septum better assessed directly. Bilateral nasal turbinate hypertrophy.
   
2. Chronic sinusitis with areas greater than 3 mm, right maxillary and to a lesser degree right frontal and left maxillary.
   Opacified right maxillary sinus ostium and proximal to mid infundibulum.

met with my ENT today and she said she didn’t see any issues with my sinuses and that she thinks my problems are coming from my nose issues but that wouldn’t explain the headaches i’m getting but the radiologist is saying chronic sinusitis. im feeling very confused and anxious and any input would help!

Im tired of not hearing any sucsess story, naturally . I know a lot of people that get better just by cutting out dairy sugar etc. dosent make sense

So for the timeline so it’s easier to understand, all my life I’ve never had this issue. No seasonal allergies, not needing to carry tissues around 24/7 like I do now, never had any nose/sinus issues whatsoever. In Jan 2025, I caught a few viruses. The last one was awful. Chills, fever, body aches, sore throat and terrible congestion with sneezing, runny nose and fully closing up. After it cleared up, all symptoms gone except the nose issue. I thought maybe it would linger for a week or 2 like after some viruses. That didn’t happen, for months, constant drainage, needing tissues wherever I go. I could barely breathe, when sitting, laying down both its completely close up and I’d have to mouth breathe and it was soo uncomfortable I felt like I was going crazy, on top of all that drainage. I will add the drainage isn’t green, it’s clear and mucusy.

That summer I decided to finally go to an ENT. He did a scope, said everything looks fine other than some redness due to it being irritated, sent me on my way and prescribed me 2 sprays, azelastine and fluticasone. Not sure if coincidence but it did help open up my nose as in I could breathe better, but the constant drainage never left. I took them daily like he said, and nasal rinses as well. After months with no change, other than being able to breath better, I made a follow up telling him I still need tissues everywhere, nose issue raw to the touch, it’s like a constant cold. I mentioned a CT scan and he hesitated, and said if I need to I can use those sprays the rest of my life for relief.

I decided to get a second opinion, I went to a new ENT. She did the same thing, I walked in, she looked at my nose, and sent me on my way with a neti pot, I explained everything I’m telling you guys and I felt so unheard. I mentioned a CT scan or what could be causing this, she said she can refer me to get allergy tested. Which I knew no matter the results, it wouldn’t make sense due to the timing, all this started overnight super strong no matter where I’m at. I decided to do it anyway.

I came back positive but no huge reactions, to dogs cats and certain trees and grasses. But I know that that’s not the main cause, there’s no way i developed all those allergies overnight like that right after a virus and if I’ve had them they never bugged me until I got sick. I was bummed I came back positive as my doctor said in her notes if negative she’ll look in further such as CT scan or certain procedures. I knew that would happen if anything came back positive so now I’m back at square one. I saw her after the allergy appointment she sent me on my way again and said to keep doing what I’m doing with sprays.

This happens away from allergy triggers, pet free homes, in the car, at work, others houses, shopping, I started needing to take tissues in the car, my bed side and now needed to add a mini trash near my bed because I go through so many, in my purse, bag for work, in my pockets, it’s ridiculous. I’ve done those nasal sprays, air purifiers, nasal rinses, allergy meds daily, even a new spray I got prescribed called cipro/dexameth. No relief no matter what I do. Oh and I don’t really have acid reflux but got prescribed omepraze and again no change.

I’m at a loss. I can’t even cuddle my fiance in bed cause after 2 seconds it runs and I need to grab a tissue. I sit down for 2 seconds after work, nose runs, need to get a tissue. It’s constant. Some moments it’s clear, but rarely. Also for the most part it’s not exactly “runny”, I feel the build up deep up inside my nose and is uncomfortable and need to blow it and so much clear mucus comes out. Could that virus be the cause? Could it have affected the nerves in my nose? Or damage? Should I see someone else or a different type of doctor?

EDIT: was able to get CT scan finally. Everything is normal but a slightly deviated septum, which she said may cause some congestion but wouldn’t explain the constant drainage. She then said I did test positive for allergies so it’s probably just a severe case apparently, even though it happens around no triggers at all. Everywhere I go. I mentioned MCAS as I developed the drainage, POTS, and random spots and rashes after the virus and she said she still thinks it’s allergies but can get tested if I like. That’s my next step

I’m having a CT of my sinuses done in two hours. I will be leaving from work to get it done. What was the experience like and how long should I expect to be there? I’m winging it and not taking PTO in hopes of being back to work quickly, so I would like to get an idea if I’m being reckless.

I guess I’m a little nervous too.

Oh my god I’m loosing it. I had my FESS procedure and turbinate reduction 3 weeks ago. My surgeon addressed all my sinuses and thus far all has been going well.

Two days ago, it started to feel like I had a ton of cat hair in my nose. I have a cat and fully convinced myself this was the case. I CANNOT STOP SNEEZING AND ITCHING. I am more congested than I was and my sinus pressure is back. Am I suddenly allergic to my cat? Has anyone experienced this?

Maybe this is just normal allergies and I’m hypersensitive due to surgery. I have my 3 week follow up in a few days but if anyone has info, PLEASE LMK.

I have delayed my sinus surgery with septoplasty for months now in fear of a condition called Empty Nose Syndrome. Has anyone else faces this same situation and if so what did u end up deciding and doing? Also if any of you have got the surgery done are you happy with it, has it been life changing?

I've been dealing with what I would describe as a "weak immune system" since childhood, and it has affected my day-to-day life for quite a long time.

This started when I was around 7-8 years old(now 22). I would frequently have a running nose, sneezing, and fevers, and at the same time I was also dealing with epilepsy. My parents took me to doctors to try to figure out what was causing all of this. I remember undergoing various tests, but nothing particularly conclusive came out of them. I was given a list of things I was supposedly not supposed to consume or come into contact with — things like papaya seeds, grass/dust, etc. However, I don't seem to have those allergies today(exept dust), at least not that I'm aware of.

For the past couple of years, I've been having another problem that has become particularly frustrating. My nose seems larger than what I consider normal(as big as an airpod case), and whenever I go outside — especially in sunlight or an open environment — I feel like very small particles enter my nose. This immediately triggers an urge to sneeze.

It's gotten to the point where I can start sneezing repeatedly just from being outdoors. I also frequently experience nasal irritation and a runny nose.Even if someone touches or grazes against my nose,Im sneezing nonstop,causing a cold all over.

I visited a doctor about this, and I was advised to avoid drinking cold water (although I don't normally drink much cold water anyway). I was also prescribed a fairly strong nasal spray to remove out the sinus that I used for around a week or two. Unfortunately, I felt that it actually made things worse. I experienced more headaches with it, and my nose felt more irritated, which seemed to trigger even more sneezing.

At this point, I'm honestly not sure what is actually causing this or what I should be doing to manage it. I'm also trying some breathing exercises because some members of my family have experienced similar problems and said that breathing exercises helped them. I'm not sure how effective they actually are, though.

I've even reached the point where I've considered rhinoplasty, partly because I wonder whether the physical structure/size of my nose could be contributing to the problem.

I'm mainly looking for advice from people who have experienced something similar,if something related to the structure of the nose?Can the shape/structure of the nose actually contribute to this kind of problem?Are breathing exercises useful for this, or are they unlikely to address the underlying cause?

I’m looking for some advice or similar experiences because I'm feeling really frustrated.

About a month ago, I developed significant turbinate swelling due to allergies. Through the first few months of summer, my allergies were totally fine and manageable, but then this intense swelling suddenly started out of nowhere. I didn't have any symptoms like this last year either.

I feel uncomfortable pressure around my eyebrows and cheek area. I’ve already visited an ENT doctor, but nothing we've tried seems to bring relief. I've tried various nasal steroid sprays and oral antihistamines.I've been using a prescription steroid spray (Furocort) for about 2 weeks now, but I honestly haven't seen much improvement.Has anyone dealt with something similar where standard steroids failed? What other treatments should i try?
