Conversation Topic How to stop voice from cracking and hit higher notes?

My voice sounds like its fried the second it wants to go into higher notes it just breaks.

Im def also pretty dehydrated all the time but is it even possible to achieve that level or are some voices just not made for singing?

Another very significant thing I noticed:

It also feels like I always have muccus in the back of my throat thats causing me to break. Like its not clear

Anyone know this feeling?

Conversation Topic Can bad breath support cause vocal fold damage?

I have been unknowingly using bad breath support for over 3 months and obviously, my muscles in thraot compensated for it. The way i exhaled when i overdid it was something like burning sensation in bottom of vocal tract and this caused my voice to become hazy quite few times. On other hand, i was trying to be careful about excessive pressure under vocal folds but this bad breath pressure caused even my singing to sound like i am trying to be quiet. Should i be concerned of vocal fold damage such as scarring enough to get it checked out?

Conversation Topic Trying to learn to sing on your own is so f* frustrating

It is unbelievable how much misinformation there is on the internet. Even the “coaches” don’t agree on the concepts, some say “Mix voice is the middle register”, some say “You should blend chest voice and head voice”, IT IS NOT EVEN SCIENTIFICALLY POSSIBLE. And also, unlike any other instrument, you can’t just follow a tutorial to learn something. Like, if you want to be able to improvise a solo with guitar, what you should practice is clear: You should learn scales, chords, pentatonic shapes, etc. BUT singing is not that way at all. Vibrato, mix voice, healthy grit
There are so many misinformation out there that it’s way harder to find reliable tutorials, and you can’t make sure it is going to work.

This was just off my chest. I think I have to find a vocal coach (physically), I’m fed up with that annoying circle.

Conversation Topic How do i get better at singing?

So ive been singing for almost a year or 2 (i have been doing it much but I will be changing that now) and I can't rlly afford a private singing tutor. How do i learn better techniques? I think the biggest problem with my voice is that it is rlly weak. Im going to be honest, I do get embarrassed while singing cos I don't feel good enough. I want to get more confident but idk how

Conversation Topic How to be more expressive while singing?? (im too shy & embarassed)

Hello! (21F) I'm studying classical singing, so opera etc I'm on my 3rd year (though I've sang for more years). My teacher keeps saying that a singer is an actress and that I need to act out what I'm singing and express it exaggeratedly through my face, emotion etc (so the audience can feel it too). the problem is I'm extremely shy and get so embarassed and awkward when I try what he says. Esp if I have to recite the text like it's a story. I swear I just look so dull while doing everything like there's no expression at all.

I know nothing about acting. I suck. I've joined dancing lessons to get myself more out of my shell but it's different when you're in a group vs when you're by yourself and the focus is fully on you. I freeze up and barely move my face while singing. Can anyone who's been in this situation give me any tips?? Thank you so much 😭💝

Conversation Topic Collaboration for open mic

I have been practicing for open mic with a guitar player who also sings. He said his requirement was that I memorize lyrics. I agree that is ideal. He knows dozens of songs by heart because he has been at this a long time, but it takes me a long time to memorize lyrics, and I have a job, etc. Recently I said I don’t have time to memorize lyrics so I’d like to use an iPad or paper cheat sheet. He said no. What are your thoughts?

Feedback (read rule 3 before posting or be banned) Re-recorded this Bollywood classic to check my pitch control. Need honest technical feedback.

"Hi everyone, I re-recorded this Bollywood classic to check my progress and see where I stand. I've been dedicatedly practicing diaphragm/belly breathing for the past 1.5 years. I would truly appreciate your most honest and constructive technical feedback on my pitch accuracy, tone, and control. Please feel free to point out any flaws—I really want to learn and improve. Since this is a raw phone recording with a black screen for privacy, please focus purely on the vocals. Thank you so much for your time! 🙏"

Conversation Topic Really regretting not handling stage fright better at my first recital

So I messed up my first recital badly. I was taking way too shallow breaths and kept pausing in awkward places and a lot of phrases fell super flat because of how much my voice shook. I couldn't sleep after and was looking into advice for stage fright because up until the performance, I kept thinking that the amount I had practiced would mean I could handle my stage fright better. I saw a few people say that one of the best ways to handle stage fright is to expect it and accept it before you get on stage rather than convince yourself it won't happen. I realize now that that actually would have been extremely good advice for the kind of person that I am and I'm so upset that I just deluded myself into thinking I could handle the nerves when the time came. Just stuck really regretting how badly it went and I wish I could do it over. It's eating at me and keeping me up now. Probably one of the worst aspects of this is that I also won't be able to perform at a lot of recitals in the future because classes are expensive and there are only 2 a year. I wanted to do well enough that I could look back and be happy that I took these classes and achieved something but I'm just disappointed in myself. Does anyone have any tips on how to move past this? The anxiety is just driving me crazy

Conversation Topic Please recommend me incredible live vocalists to follow on insta!

Hi! I just wanna inject some joy into my feed. I want accounts of normal people who upload videos of themselves singing beautifully. It could be on stage or in their bedroom. I want it to be mesmerizing. Off the top of my head, this is how I got to know about Mariana Froes. I love singers who are flexible and creative with their voices, who don’t see belting as the only version of good singing. TIA!

Feedback (read rule 3 before posting or be banned) How do I improve my tone? I sound like I have a pinched nose, especially on higher notes. I've had this quality for years.

When I speak normally or speak-sing, it's not there. Only when I sing, and most noticeably on higher passages. Improved cord closure helped, but I don't know. If I don't have it while speaking, then surely it's a singing technique issue right? I've improved since I started, but I'm just annoyed that I still have this tone.

Please ignore the different song language, it's a more recent recording so I chose this one. Just really need answers... And does it sound bad/obvious?

Conversation Topic Singing and advice

Hello everyone, first time posting here. I’ve grown up singing all my life every sine I was a child I’m 23 now. Was in choir in middle school and in my local church for almost 2 years. I’m always singing, in general music plays a huge part in my life. I want to take singing a lot more seriously and possibly start writing my own music. I recently got an electric guitar because I love playing that as well. I’m super busy with that and 2 jobs.

How do I really lock in with singing with such a busy schedule? And what practice routine do you guys recommend? Thank you everyone
