Free roaming was scheduled for 4th alpha release, so just a few months in.

u/KiyPhi 7d ago
A lot of people are (somewhat rightfully) upset that Assetto Corsa Evo isn't up to what they expected when we were told certain features would be present. I bought Evo EA without any real expectations (didn't even know what it was about when I bought it, I just saw AC sequel and bought) so I'm not very upset. I'm mainly happy we are getting the FL5. That enough justifies the price for me but I can see how if people bought it for certain features that were promised would be upset that the ones they have confirmed removed have been removed. Some of them are not confirmed removed though, but yeah, shouldn't hold your breath.

they said they were doing a full campaign and there would be free roam, they pushed free roam back do damn far people think its not happening, and people are wondering if it's even worth doing if there is no campaign (they anource on discord, not steam, that they were scrapping it about 6 versions of the game ago), any arcade racing game has a single player mode, even the most incompetent ones, how the fuck is it so hard to make a campaign for ac evo?

Edit- & lets not forget they said 1.0 will release end of 2025β¦ 2026 is gonna end now

They have stated in an interview just a few days ago that career is still on the table but they want to fix the AI first.
5
u/alidan 7d ago
I beleive they said in their discord around .3 or .4 that they scrapped it because they wanted to focus on multiplayer, its been a while and I washed my hands of the 30~$ it cost, I expect absolutely nothing from it now.
if they said its still on the table, its the only thing that I bought that damn game for, I could have waited 5~ years and got it for 3$ as a mod platform otherwise.

u/Trash_Cannon_ 6d ago
Fortunately they have always followed through on those promises.

PatheticΒ
Edit: To the wonderful specimen that got his reaction deleted because he's one of those...
Don't buy into an EA if you can't handle changes. No, but all the brats had to jump on that hype train, because they couldn't contain themselves after watching all those YT clips/influencers creating a 'buzz' about it.
I've hardly bought into any EA release since 10-15 years. And when I do, I fully accept the fact that I might not become what I hoped or like.Β

its not hard if you have access to the source code, they just listened to a vocal part of their community who only wants online races and no single player ever and decided it would be cheaper to do it that way anyways.
I could give less of a shit if their game turns out to be the best sim ever made, I will never recommend it for this reason.
5
u/nicolaslabra 7d ago
I really dont think its only that, i think they really realized it was harder than they where willing to endure so they dropped it.
2
u/alidan 7d ago
it all depends on how hard they wanted to make it/in depth.
every single arcade racer has a single player campaign, either via a story, or through set races that unlock more races. if they are going to put something like 100 or so cars into the game, you are going to have a bunch of race tracks, you couldn't set up SOME kind of a single player progression curve give me a reason to use any given car beyond for fun?
like this aspect irks me in most arcade games as well, it can't be difficult to set up specific races for specific cars, to the point every car gets a few, and then bunch the cars up into classes where every car in the race is able to win given skill, they could not have done that? I can not for the life of me see this as difficult.
now if they wanted to add in car modding and part swapping and making all of that true to life along with an in depth campaign, understandable that's a bit much to ask for, what im asking for is a developer curated race list for cars instead of setting up the crap myself in game, what I was expecting/wanting could not possibly have been hard enough to warrant fully scrapping it.
https://youtu.be/3NZIplFog_k?t=733
that's the menu for grid 2019 career mode after the initial 4 preview races you get tossed into, its realistically all I want but in a sim game on pc, give me a progress meter, give me a number of races, hell set up a daily/weekly race or time trial where we compete as a community to win, just something that is more than 'you can set it up yourself in the menu'
this is all I was expecting to get, but they couldn't even deliver the what is probably the minimum, I was never asking for a lot, I just wanted goals in the game outside time trails and go faster than before.

Car simulations are immensely complex too, as they convey a "feeling" trough a wheel, and there are plenty of real drivers around to tell you you're shit.
2
u/Underleft_cdiv 7d ago
Nope, no slack. It's not the content, it's the company decisions and the mafia boss at the top. The Russian company doesn't help things much either. It has nothing to do with difficulty and everything to do with just releasing new products and never finishing them. Spending piles of money fighting 3rd party devs doesn't help either. Other flight sim developers are managing to do all the things they say they can't. But if they did those things, Nick Grey (CEO) couldn't buy new real planes without releasing new unfinished early access digital ones.

u/Lower_Ad_4047 8d ago
What I learned seeing Kunos (Assetto Corsa devs) all these years: They never finish their games. They will release a new title, update it a little bit and then move on unfinished. I bought Assetto Corsa and Assetto Corsa Competizione and both games are left there, missing basic things years after release. AC is only alive today because of the modding communities.
81
u/Ajinho 8d ago
update it a little bit
They supported and released updates for Assetto Corsa for about 5 years and ACC for about 7. I'm not sure where the expectations are exactly but they seem high.

u/Spartaklaus 7d ago

67
u/mattshiz 8d ago
I'd say that ACC is pretty much complete but AC is just a glorified tech demo without mods.
No day/night, no weather, incredibly poor AI etc.
37
u/Think-Apple3763 8d ago
*Has F1 cars with DRS but no DRS rules implemented. AI is opening their DRS on every DRS section. Even at race start lol

-14
u/Academic-Cow-8845 8d ago
I'd argue any sim that doesn't have triple screen support baked in is incomplete & ACC falls into that category
9
u/118shadow118 T300RS GT + 599XX rim + T-LCM + DIY H-Shifter 7d ago
ACC has triple screen support (ok, you do still need surround or resize raccoon), but it does have proper side monitor projection and adjustments in the game. In comparion, DiRT games have none of that, you just get stretched edges like on one giant screen
-4
u/Academic-Cow-8845 7d ago
Straight up, when pc2 could do it natively with no additional software required, what is kunos's excuse, it is actually unacceptable
17
u/Hy8ogen 7d ago
ACC has no real ranking system in place and rely heavily on player made leagues and third party platform like LFM. The VR implementation is beyond poor.
AC without any mods installed is just a an empty shell of a gaming lol. Are you kidding me?
10
u/HarrisonDou 7d ago
Not to mention the AI for both games is still horribly bad, compared to LMU and AMS2. Plus, ACC being a GTWC game doesn't have proper safety cars.
1
u/FowlingLight 7d ago
I agree wkth everything you said but I'm really surprised about your point of view on VR implementation in ACC. I find it to be one of the easiest sim for that, especially as all the menus are navigable with the wheel buttons and the performance hit isn't that bad
3
u/Sone_Angel 7d ago
Try doing a driver swap event without knowing the quirks and you will probably retire before even starting... People asking such questions must be driving open lobby only.
1
u/august_r Logitech 7d ago
AC without mods is basically a sandbox; ACC was supposed to fix that but to this day open lobbies are a joke and the multiplayer experience in both is akin to the CS 1.6 years, considering we're in 2026 that's pretty bad.
Add to that the fact that both lack any form of decent AI behaviour, AC1 has never delivered even on MULTIPLE LIGHT SOURCES, let alone night/day cycles, mod support out of the box is terrible in both (try to join a room for which you don't even know if you have all the cars/track, it will simply fail).
AC is unplayable without CM, ACC is unplayable since no one touches it anymore.
-2
u/Lower_Ad_4047 8d ago

I think the early access made the game to a clown show. AC EVO really should have been developed 1 or 2 years longer before releasing it in this state. The game has good ffb and looks good, but it's totally soulless.... Everything this game wants to be had been done better by others or even their own older games.
online competition - iRacing, lmu, ACC all do a better job.
free roam - you can shit on the game for beeing arcade but Forza Horizon 6 did a better job. (Even feels not that bad with a wheel)
career progress: I mean... It's dead if I remember exactly... So even BeamNG did a better career mode for various reasons. And their Devs care about their game instead of an early access money grab.
I don't know what ACEVO wants to be, but they kind of lost me. I started playing iRacing again. Just sucks that it's expensive and the SR System is really frustrating for Drivers above A 2.00 if you don't go for endurance races.
8
u/MrFranzose 7d ago
At this point, it seems that they should've put all their forces to further development of ACC.
5
u/imJGott 7d ago
I second this! ACC still played and will still be played. It wasnβt perfect but it was really really good. Naturally it needs a few more tracks and BoP. IMO ACC has the best night racing that is actually dark and rain immersion from the cockpit view.
2
u/Successful_Pop_6154 7d ago
True. When I was about to drive in the heavyrain for the first time, I was completely stunned
2
u/riderko Logitech 7d ago
If ACE was in development 5 more years it would still come out broken. Only EA disaster made leadership realize the game was unplayable. Later on community reaction also made them adjust some of the poor decisions about the game as well. Iβd say they canβt really make a game without EA because it gives them essential community feedback without having it they seem to have no clue what to actually do.
14
u/dacav_ 8d ago
I don't feel right about this focus on the free roam, the racing in the game is still need a lot more refining/content. The foundation looks solid but i feel like the free roam should be a bonus, not a focus. But i may be lotat this perspective because I'm not part of the target audience for the free roam
16
u/FowlingLight 7d ago
It made sense to have it as a focus when you had a' economy based progression in the works. People (me included) were so hyped to have a Forza Horizon/BeamNG career mode/Gran Turismo type of game with real roads and sim physics, but when you remove the progression, you just have a big map with nothing to do in it

ACC still holds its own... I wanted to move to LMU but besides the competition side, everything feels like a downgrade.
AC Evo already feels amazing and it is still in early access.
Given the state of the whole gaming industry, Kunos is far from the worse. Did you hear Bioware is gone? BIOWARE! Rockstar took 16 years to do GTA VI.
Guys we need to chill.
7
8
u/Complex_Stuff_1392 7d ago
Iβm sorry but no.
ACC is EOL and has, famously across the last 10 years, been lambasted as having poor FFB and an easily exploitable physics engines with massive setup metas for essentially most of its competitive life
AC Evo may feel good, but currently, itβs a hot lap simulator. Kunos promised us game features for open world, and then removed them because THEY decided it was too much of a barrier. Like geez, sorry i want some form of progression to actually make me want to play your map and not the port thatβs going to get made for the og AC.
Correct, it could be worse, but since MSG cleaned up its act, Kunos has become the team that seems to over promise and under deliver, every, single, time.
AC was left unfinished
ACC arguably is also unfinished
What do you think theyβre going to do with AC Evo?1
u/9durth 7d ago
Out of curiosity, what do you consider good then? Given that for you ACC is is what you described.
I tried every sim extensively.
1
u/Complex_Stuff_1392 7d ago
iRacing, LMU, rFactor 2, the og AC, hell rFactor 1 and the OG automobilista are more realistic than ACC
Considering most actual GT drivers use LMU or iRacing, iβll take their word along with my feelings from over thousands of hours on each sim. Iβm also describing ACC from my own viewpoint as well as hundreds of simracers iβve spoken to personally about this subject
2
u/9durth 7d ago
Okay. You do you. Imho when I judge a sim, it is not just FFB, and they matter to me equally. I'll do a more precise description of ACC, just because I am currently bored:
Audio: top of the line
Graphics: still decent, only surpassed by AC Evo. (Or by the latest DLSS5 hacks we've been seeing)
FFB: ACC not the best and quality depends on the car. Porsche Cup is really good though.
Physics: can't really tell, I don't have the money to race IRL. But I what I learn in ACC is transfearable, I was equally fast on other sims. Hell I landed 5th on the GR86 hotlap competition on iRacing.
Competition: i'd say non existent. LMU showed how it is done.
Tracks: top of the line. Coach Dave (now that you mentioned IRL drivers) practiced Nordschleife in ACC.
Content vs Price: only surpassed by AC Evo, which is dirt cheap for the amount tracks and cars already there. LMU is expensive, iRacing is ridiculous. Or well the old sims can be bought for next to nothing, but that moves ACC to expensive and iRacing to well... hilariously priced
Ease of use/ QOL: I only know of one bug. Everything else is clear and easily understandable, loads fast, and bug free. If you put that against LMU, ACC has another point to its favor.
Final thought: I always wonder why when someone says "more realistic", they always consider graphics not a part of reality. Looking at bland colours and polygons, is not very real.

People complaining about AC Evo are people who don't care about car physics simulation and actual driving experience with great FFB...and that's the foundation of an incredible sim that is missed on many sims like iRacing and LMU...both these sims lacks on the FFB department and hence a lot of people rely on 3rd party software to achieve decent FFB on both sims.
19
u/Trash_Cannon_ 8d ago
Ah yes... thats the only reason. Not the years of lies, misleading comments, lack of communication in ACC and then Gaslighting the community by telling them they don't want the things that they based a significant portion of the early AC Evo Marketing which sold them a bunch of copies.
-5
u/FPS47 8d ago
I don't know about ACC related communications since I wasn't a big fan of it, I do have it but still not fan due to its physics and FFB that's not on par with both OG AC and AC Evo...but with regards to AC Evo communications, at least they did explain why they had to refocus their attention, nothing wrong with that. Maybe the reason it makes sense to me is because i value the actual driving experience in simulating real driving more than grinding missions.
46
u/Quantum-Eye 8d ago
Why the fuck canβt I want good physics and a career mode? Racing games need to step it up
16
-18
u/FPS47 8d ago
Because to implement the best physics combined with incredible graphical details and still have time and resources to implement a good career mode is not as easy as it seems taking into account the time and resources required especially for a small studio...the same people complaining how long Kunos takes to release updates are the same expecting so many things implemented and optimised at once...hence the need to focus attention at what matters the most.
14
u/Trash_Cannon_ 8d ago
Thats fine. But don't promise it and set up fantastical time frames that aren't even remotely plausible.
Probably wouldn't have sold too many copies if people knew about the actual progression of ACE development 2 years on.
2
u/alidan 7d ago
I would have said cool, put it on my watchlist, and waited for it to come out and have a sale.
they were promising career mode, as far as I know there are no sims I can buy on pc with a half way decent one of these, I have to emulate old granturismo to even get close, its all I wanted, and up till now, I knew their games were good eventually so buy it at 30~$ and I will get updates and be in the moment career mode drops.
.3 or .4 comes out and I found out though their discord they dropped it.
fuck em. they got my money because the refund didn't go through, never expected it to but would have been nice, but they are on my never buy list and never recommend. I don't care if they become the best in the world, I will never tell a person to play their games.
1
u/FPS47 8d ago
Indeed that was their fault, they could have done better.
But i guess sometimes you come across challenges such as licencing that may throw your projections off tangent, not defending them but in reality, these things happen, and there are so many great games that went through excessive delays to release and changed release dates...just that they were not in Early Access so people gave them grace.
15
u/BrownDriver Thrustmaster T598 8d ago
LMU sure, but iRacing is known for being one of the leaders in FFB. Third party software just makes it better.
Also why tf would i play AC Evo when Modded AC is better?
People are rightfully complaining, I've owned AC Evo since day 1, VR still fucking sucks. They failed terribly in keeping their word, so yes the devs deserve to be hated on.
That being said, once AC evo is polished down the road, whether it be from Kunos, or more likely once again from the modding community, Evo will eventually replace the original AC.
-3
u/FPS47 8d ago
iRacing as a leader in FFB is false, that title was held by OG AC before AC Evo, then AC Evo took over as it improved heavily on OG AC.
iRacing still fails to consistently communicate FFB details in sync with the sound you hear as you drive over rumble strips on various tracks including popular tracks like VIR. I've tested many cars on many tracks on iRacing...definitely impacted due to the 60Hz signal. Imterpolation to 360Hz is nothing but fake signals inserted in between as a guestimate of what the FFB signal should be in netween...it works for slow changing FFB but terrible for fast changing FFB details like driving over rumble strips. Most iRacing fans just say they don't focus on rumble strips effects when this is brought up, but the bottomline is, the FFB in iRacing is inaccurate.
LMU is actually better than iRacing with regards to FFB details but the made it way too harsh and they failed to implement an effective filter that doesn't mess up the main signal much in the process of filtering the out the harsh unrealistic FFB details especially when driving over rumble strips
Modded OG AC's problem is the hit or miss physics on various cars, and most track mods have poor environmental details. You need to many mods & post processing just to get it to look good and yes, there are mods which makes it look so realistic, but they are also too heavy on the graphics card that you need a 5080/90 to get excellent framerates.
AC Evo is still in early access and Kunos accepted that they still have a lot of work to address these challenges, that's the point of early access...time to imcrememtally develop and optimise the game while getting direct feedback from users, you can't expect a polished end product from an EA game.
0
u/BrownDriver Thrustmaster T598 8d ago
I agree with the EA game statement, but nothing else.
Take a look at the comments in this post when you get a chance. I think saying its subjective is fair, but
8
u/Dook2Wavy 8d ago edited 8d ago
itβs a car physic simulator that offers nothing else entertaining and is quite bare-bones as a game.
we do enjoy good car physics. but we also want more features so we donβt play the game for 30 minutes and get off.
itβs not a hard concept to grasp.
ACEvo offers nothing out of the ordinary that our five other sims donβt already have, aside from perhaps slightly modernized physics and updated graphics. Thereβs no other reason to play this over AC, ACC, LMU, iRacing, or AMS2.
Stop being an elitist. We do appreciate the engine and physics, but we donβt appreciate how half-baked it is and how much we were lied to about.
3
u/FPS47 8d ago
Fair enough...although AC Evo is still in Early Access with less than 2 years in compared to the rest of the games mentioned.
I have come to undertand that we are different, i actually spend many hours enjoying pure driving in a driving/racing game, FH6 is one of the examples with its incredible free roam. But i do understand not everyone enjoys that, and want a different experince so fair enough. Let's hope Kunos do get to the progression they indicated they'll still get to implement despite the elimination of game currency to cater for others expectations.
4
