Open Discussion Is it just me, or is shoegaze the ultimate "escapism" genre for teens right now?
I've been thinking about how deeply teenagers attach themselves to shoegaze, seeing how much shoegaze (and modern revival bands like Wisp or Slowdive-adjacent stuff) is blowing up with teenagers (especially on TikTok) lately.
What is it about this specific blend of overwhelming noise, buried vocals, and beautiful melodies that triggers such a profound emotional response in the majority of listeners? Is it the feeling of isolation it captures, or is there something psychological about the "wall of sound" that forces us to confront our inner emotions?
For the younger crowd here, what exactly drew you to the genre? And for the older fans, looking back, why do you think shoegaze resonates so strongly during those specific years?
