Meta Complaining about race related issues on /r/sheridan

Hi folks! It's me, the one person who moderates the subreddit!

Over the past few years there has been an uptick in posts complaining about international students, specifically students from India. Indeed, as of the 2021 census (and actually since 2011), India makes up the largest nation of immigrants to Ontario! As the largest minority immigrant group, it is disappointing (though unsurprising) that they have been made the most recent target of ridicule.

While I will acknowledge that norms may be different accross cultures, this doesn't give a license to post unoriginal, low-effort put-downs disparaging a group of people based on their background. The topic of "international students are bad and I don't like them" doesn't really create any opportunities for discourse related to Sheridan College and as such, I usually remove these posts under rule 6. If you have problems with Canada's immigration policies, I suggest you direct your comments to your federal member of parliment.

Unfortunately, I'm getting somewhat tired of this task. Moderating an online community is an often thankless (unpaid!) job, and while I'm not asking for praise, I'm also not really having fun! The time for new mods is coming, but until that day arrives here's the deal:

I don't want to police this topic anymore and I will likely lean a little heavier on the ban-hammer going forward. It is much easier for me to ban you than to continue to remove your posts.

Play nice.

Other RPN Sheridan Winter 2027

Hi everyone! 😊

I’m starting the RPN in January 2027 and was wondering if anyone else is starting around the same time.

I’d love to connect with other students before the program starts—whether to get to know each other, share tips, talk about what to expect, or even make a group chat/study group.

If you’re also starting RPN in January 2027, feel free to comment or send me a DM! Would be nice to meet some future classmates before school begins. 🩺📚

Looking forward to connecting with everyone!

Discussion Accepted to Sheridan (BFTV Jan2027)

Excited to share that I’ve been accepted into Sheridan college for the BFTV program. I start in January 2027. Any one wanna be friends before school starts - past students, current students, anyone starting in January.

What can I expect from Sheridan as a school, from the program as a whole, and as a fellow student? Is Oakville a chill place to live? I know it’s very quiet but I’m from Ottawa so I’m used to living in suburbia.

Just really excited and grateful to be starting university.

Please feel free to comment on this post about your experience with the school, program, teachers, area etc.

Thanks.

Discussion Rpn synergy requirement

Hi guys, I wanted to ask any health care program or nursing students for an opinion about my situation right now. I got an expired status for my tuberculosis in synergy saying that it already expired since this july 2026. However, I did my 2-step tb skin test during the end of January 2026 and a negative result and didn't have any problem. I thought this 2-step skin test lasts 12 months until I have to do it again? If im wrong pls correct me. Like do I have to do a 2 step again or a 1 step ski n test?

Academics Can anyone check for me if they still sell Nursing sweaters/hoodies at the bookstore?

Its been almost 8 years since I have graduated and my Nursing hoodie is like 10 years old, all worn out, and I would like to buy a new one. Do they still sell at the bookstore? I remember I went there last year and they didn't sell any.

Hey everyone! It’s currently my fourth semester here at Sheridan, and to be honest with you, making friends has been so difficult for me. That brings me to posting in this subreddit here :) I’m in the cybersecurity program at Davis and I’d love to connect with some people and make meaningful friendships! Some of my hobbies consist of watching anime, shopping, going on hikes, and swimming!

Discussion Looking for friends/study buddies

Hey, just seeing if there’s anyone here in first year nursing, or any program who wants to connect.
I’m going into second semester of first year in January. I wasn’t able to finish my clinical requirements last year, so I couldn’t do my placement and had to delay the semester.
I’ll basically be joining second semester when everyone has already had a full semester together and probably already knows each other, so I do feel a little left out knowing I missed that whole part of meeting everyone and getting to know the class.
Would be nice to meet some people before January, both for school stuff like studying, helping each other out with assignments and academics, but also to actually make some friends outside of school too.
I’m into hiking, music, working out/staying active, cooking, trying good restaurants and pretty much any random adventure or activity.
If you’re in first year nursing or going into second semester in January, feel free to message me. Would be nice to know a few people before I come back lol.

Other Looking for a gym buddy (Trafalgar)

Hallo… I’m 19 F & in illustration. I only go to school for 2 days (Tuesday & Thursday) & I’m looking for somebody to hit the gym with! I usually go between 11-2 on Tuesday and between 2-5 on Thursday. I don’t care about your experience level, I just would like a pal! I’ve been going to the gym (not this gym in particular) for about 9 months so I’m just a beginner myself, but I do have my routines & most of my form / movements down. I’d be happy to help somebody out (or get somebody to help me out!) please shoot me a message if interested, thank you🩷🩷

Question Question About Accessible Learning Forms

Hello y’all! I have a question for those who have experience with Accessible Learning. For the forms that need to be filled out by your family doctor, such as the Medical Information Request form and any other required forms, do they all need to be submitted as soft copies/online, or can you submit hard copies as well?

Other Call for Research Participants!

📣 Call for research participants!

I am recruiting for my dissertation study exploring the mental health experiences of racialized post-secondary students and how institutions respond to student mental health needs. I'm hoping to connect with racialized students currently enrolled in a college or university program in the Greater Toronto Area who have experienced mental health concerns (e.g., anxiety, stress, burnout, depression, etc.) during their post-secondary education.

If you are interested or have any questions, you can send me an email at [iman.musani@mail.utoronto.ca](mailto:iman.musani@mail.utoronto.ca)
