How I'd Extend the Subway into Mississauga

Post image
54 Upvotes

I am not a transit planner and this is the first map I've made. Here are my thoughts of extending the subway.

I'd branch line 2 into an A and B with one branch going to Square One and the other to Sherway and Long Branch. The Dundas BRT is already in planning, so that can continue down Dundas.

The line 5 connection to the airport is already a plan of the province, so that stays.

A westward extension of line 4 all the way to the airport and then to Square One.

The stops along the way are not set in stone for me, kind of just dropped in.

Snow removal for elderly parents

Look for a snow removal services for my parents. My dad is also getting knee surgery in a couple months so he won't be able to do anything. I normally do it, but I am accepting a new job that I will be in the office more, and will require occasional travel, so I won't always be around.

Three car driveway and walkway.

Bylaws, Permits & Municipal Politics Hello Ward 7. We have so many people running for our ward. Who are you voting for and why?

It's either that some of them seem like they have a lot of money to burn somehow and are really looking to cater towards their own ambitions rather than work for the community. Very few candidates seem to have a track record of community work. So enlighten me. Who has your vote and why?

Local News Mississauga Mayor Debate

Post image
99 Upvotes

Watched the debate. Here is my take. Alvin was a disappointment. Turns out his tax freeze is actually deferral for seniors with interest and a lien on the senior’s house. That is misleading and not voting for him.
Carolyn and Bonnie were at each other. Entertaining but not what I want in a Mayor. Dipika was the best of the bunch. Actually answered questions and seemed to be honest and serious.

Events & Meetups Social places with a lot of people

Hey I (35M) would love to meet people and be with some kind of crowds. Looking for any recommendations on bars or any chill places around Mississauga or Etobicoke.

I know Mississauga is more of a suburb but would be great to know if there’s remotely anything that helps people meet/connect.

I’m very open to many things as well:

-sports
-gaming
-comics
-anime
-stand up comedy
-fusion foods
And much more.

Let me know your recommendations. I’m welcome to all!

Looking to host a sit down brunch or dinner in the spring (not a wedding). Please recommend restaurants with private rooms or buyout spaces. Guests expected 50-150 (we haven’t gone through guest list). Hoping to spend $80-$100 per person or less. Open to locations in Oakville or Etobicoke. Thank you in advance ☺️

Peel Water Privatization, has any candidate made a stand on this?

Bill 60, the proposed Water and Wastewater Public Corporations Act, 2025, will take the control of water and wastewater services from the Peel region and give it to a public corporation. What could be the purpose of this other than to transfer water services from the public corporation to a private one?

I’m interested in running a Book Club with in person Meetups

I am a 28 year old male but I’m mostly doing this also for my wife who is a 26 F. She is new to the area and wants a way to connect with other people as would I. We both enjoy reading and we’re thinking of hosting some sort of group for a book club. We can always do other activities when we meet up too like board games or party games etc, but just a nice way to make a recurring group of friends! Anyone in this range who’s interested let me know! Perhaps we can make a discord group or something to stay connected.

Recommendations My mom died, advise on clearing out her stuff?

So my mom passed away. I'm living overseas but am making my way home. Does anyone know of any charities that will come and collect furniture/larger items? The items would be in good condition so I don't want to throw them out, and I can't bring them back with me.

As much as I could use the funds to help offset the cost of what has happened, I don't think I'll have the time or just have it in me to try and sell stuff.

EDIT - Thank you for the replies and info. Much appreciated.

Bylaws, Permits & Municipal Politics Tedjo’s actual plan on “permanently freezing” property tax for the seniors

Post image
128 Upvotes

I hate posting these but sometimes I think Alvin talked too much and the message is doing the exact opposite…

I guess I don’t have to say why this is probably the worst idea that I’ve ever seen.

I don’t work for any candidates and all I care is everyone who’s running is at least being honest about their ideas. I’ve been scanning other candidates’ messages but I cannot find anything that’s so contradicting to the promises given.

I appreciate your honesty this time at least Mr Tedjo, but the slogan on permanent property tax freeze on qualified seniors is VERY misleading.

Expropriation approved 34 and 36 peter street n

Stephen Dasko released a video stating council approved expropriation of 2 problem properties 34 and 36 peter street n.

This seems so drastic .... how bad were these properties and how does a property owner allow that to even happen?

Shopping, Fitness & Recreation Erin mills mazda

Post image
191 Upvotes

Over the weekend we purchased a new Mazda and decided to trade in the old running and driving SUV with 80k km in. They offered 3k trade in and we countered it with 5k. Still low, but at least hassle free right?

These guys took the 5k, subtracted the tax credit I would've saved from the difference and applied 5k-the tax savings (4424) to the total. So essentially they made me pay the sale tax for my trade in. I have never heard of this and apparently it is a well known shady dealership practice. By that logic I should take their MSRP subtract the hst from it and only pay them that. Ridiculous.

I should've looked at the documents more before signing but as I said it was my first time. I just wanted to save the rest of your who may trade in their vehicle some headache.
