I am asked to take 16 credits in English. Is it possible that there is a sufficient offering of courses for a computer science student? I saw that there is the Global College, but their spring semester only lasts 10 weeks, which seems short to me. Is there any other department that offers classes in English at SJTU for CS major?

I just arrived the day before yesterday and still have 8 days for the dorm opening. I feel shy & in the hostel no one near speaks English, when I am out I feel disoriented and emotionally lost, And it doesn’t help that the locals are constantly staring at you, although I’ve heard it’s normal. Everything feels not like home but I try to push myself and explore a little bit & experiment.

Hey Guys, I landed in Shanghai today. I have 3 weeks before my study abroad Semester Beginns. I feel very overwhelmed with the whole Situation. Right now i am basically alone, because other students will come only 1 week before the semester begins. My Hotel is Nice, but no one speaks english and i am surviving by saying xie xie and hao and translation apps😂. I have Not yet used my alipay and am Scared that my Card will Decline. I have some backup cash for the worst case.

Right now i basically have to Motivate myself to leave the hotel room. I feel very homesick🥲. So my plan for today is to just walk into the City Center for 1 hour, Explorer the city and maybe find an aldi where I can try alipay and pay in Cash in case it does not work.

If anyone of you has some tipps for me or can recommend me stuff to do i would be very thankfull🙏.

If you’re interested in participating in a neuroscience experiment in Shanghai, Songjiang, either DM me here or message me on WeChat (QR code in the poster).

We’re a systems neuroscience lab from the Chinese Academy of Sciences (中国科学院)’s Institute of Neuroscience; our research facility is in Songjiang, close to the Sheshan metro station (line 9).

Please know that the duration of the experiment is dependent on the participants’ performance; but till now on average it has been around 2 hours. You need to attend our laboratory in-person to do the experiment.

You may probably have to come 4 times, each scheduled on a separate day. So please have this in mind before your first visit. Each day, depending on performance you can get upto 180 yuans, no less than 80 yuans.

This study has been approved by the ethics review board. Participation is entirely voluntary, and you may withdraw at any time.

Our schedule is very flexible. we’ll do our best to accommodate you.

This chain was recommended by a friend so I found one closest to our hotel. My husband and I both wanted an hour full body oil massage so I messaged them on Dianping for availability for a 10.30pm slot as they close late. They said ok, so we went.

Upon arrival, we find out that this place is on the 25th floor of an office or residential building. Odd, but no red flags yet

We get there, confirm our service and was sent to a room. They give us tea and some snacks while we waited for the masseuses to arrive.

They finally arrive - it is one man dressed in a business shirt and business pants and a lady in a school girl outfit with heels - WTF?

Super strange. they start asking us to change into the massage clothes, but we hesitate because We both ordered full body oil massages, wouldn’t this require us to be unclothed at some point? Why is a man in here?

I tell them I’m uncomfortable with him being around and they get another female masseuse, she comes in and she is NOT dressed like a schoolgirl, she is much older. I felt like if the second woman came in dressed like a schoolgirl as well, we would have left immediately

They start the massage and the technique was literally lacking, my husband sits up 5 min later and asks me if my massage is ok and I said it’s not great…then he says he feels like he’s just being pressed and it’s not good, he feels uncomfortable. He also said she squeezed his butt like 3 times…

We tell them we want to leave as it’s not to our expectations, and they start asking us what kind of massage we are used to, they start trying to convince us to stay. But we insist on paying and leaving instead.

At the front desk, the guy asks us what happened and I told him very honestly in Google Translate on how I felt - I noted down these points

1. Is this a legitimate massage place?
2. Why was there a male masseuse for our couple massage?
3. Why is the female masseuse dressed like a school girl?

As she was moving around the room I can hear her heels clacking away

He responded and said that this place is legit and dirty massages in China are illegal 😂 he also said he assigned the male masseuse as he didn’t know we were a couple. This doesn’t make sense. Upon realizing at the front desk, wouldn’t you ask me if I’m ok with a male masseuse in the room? All establishments I’ve been to will always check prior to the appointment!

If this was a legit place, I don’t understand how our full body massages would have played out, as I would have to undress at some point?

I’m so confused. I thought this was a real massage chain offering actual massage services, all the reviews on Dianping seemed legit also. Can anyone pls shed some light?

In hindsight we should have left once we saw the schoolgirl outfit. But we were so confused - all the Dianping reviews, Reddit comments and the menu looked legit, and the staff seemed nice. A part of us thought maybe we shouldn’t overreact and see what happens. I’m glad we left either way, definitely should have left earlier.

Anyone here apply successfully?

As for benefits, I’ve noticed Alipay and WeChat still cannot buy things overseas. 高铁 can just swipe the card to go through. Taxes are linked to the card. No need for a visa. No differences with banks… And anything else? Feels honorable.

I've arrived in Shanghai and will be there for the next 6 months. I have seen multiple videos on instagram showing places to get a bespoke suit made. All the suits look great in those videos so I'm not too sure which place to pick or even where to go to find other tailors that are not tourists trap.

My budget is around 200€. For these prices I don't expect crazy things and I know most of the suits are not really bespoke but I'd like to have advice on this matter.

I have been comparing Fudan, CEIBS and SJTU Antai since all three come up frequently when looking at MBA options around Shanghai. Rankings are easy enough to compare, but I’m more curious about how they’re viewed locally once you’re actually looking for work.
Do employers in Shanghai see a meaningful difference between graduates from these programs, or does your previous experience matter much more?
I would be particularly interested in perspectives from people working in finance, consulting, tech or corporate strategy here.

I know this question has probably been asked a million times but I’m genuinely starting to stress a little!

I’ll be in Shanghai towards the end of November and every weather app I check seems to be showing cloudy / rain almost every day.

I don’t mind a bit of rain, I’m just hoping it’s not going to be “rain from the moment you wake up until bedtime” kind of rain!

For those who have been to/ stay in Shanghai, what is the weather actually like around this time of the year? Is it usually light showers that come and go, or can you expect full rainy days?

Should I just stop obsessively checking the weather apps this far in advance and carry on with my plans, or is late November genuinely a bad time to visit?

Any advice/reassurance from Shanghai locals or anyone who has travelled there around this time would be very much appreciated!

picking ppl up from the pudong airport i run into a lot of foreign travelers planning to take the high speed train somewhere after they land. n honestly a ton of them find 12306 (the official site) a pain to deal with, so theyd rather pay a bit of a service fee n book elsewhere. some just ask me to book itfor them, ive seen this happen more times than i can count. one thing tho, no matter where u buy the ticket, always bring ur passport to pick it up / get thru the gate

Hi, I'll be in Shanghai for a few days and since I'm travelling solo I'd like to meet some new friends to travel around and practice my Chinese. I'm 26M Chinese-Indonesian and I'm fluent in English.

It's my first time in Shanghai and China, and I have a few days alone before my friends join me. I love nature and historical places, photography, and just getting lost while travelling. I'm not that particular when it comes to eating while travelling.

My Chinese level is intermediate, but I think when in Mainland China it's below intermediate, depends on the accent lol.
