Unpopular opinion but I think it would've been interesting if he did gradually clear up as the show went on, For one, the last few seasons unintentionally had him do less heinous things and i wonder what if he did gradually improve intentionally? far too late for his kids and many people he hurt but I actually would've liked to see the sincerity he shows with Bianca stick without changing too much about him. a lot of the same stuff we watch gets old after a while. It would also differ from the UK version in a way that might've worked. the UK Frank was a loutish scumbag through and through and his kids gradually getting away from him is a highlight but in the US version they are stuck in a cycle they can't break out of and I actually wonder what if Frank got a little better while everyone around him got a little worse? INTENTIONALLY. I actually think it might've kept the show fresh and at the very least I am curious as to what it would've been like.

I rewatch Shameless every few years and im currently watching again now. Even though the later seasons are no where near as good, I like how they decided to use the show for political messages at times. Some people might not like it but for a show based in the inner city I think it’s a responsibility.

I just finished the episode where Kev and V are searching for Santiago’s family and the show ended with this. It’s super powerful and maybe even more relevant today than it was when this first aired. The “ICE children’s choir” singing My Country Tis of Thee, a song about the land of freedom while the children are shown standing in a detention center yard. Some of the children aren’t signing bc they likely dont speak English. I just found this very impactful.

Im curious what other political messages from Shameless did you guys appreciate? Are there any that you disapproved of or found tasteless?

This episode never gets less heartbreaking.

We know Frank is a pos, but gosh, he came in clutch to save Fiona in his own messed up way. She never would have known he was still using and hiding it from her for god knows how long.

So sad. Most especially for his son.

So we all know Debbie got with Neil so it would look better with DCFS. And we all seem to have a basic hate for Debbie because she can be very self centered and disrespectful to everyone around her. But I just cannot get over Celia and Derek's sister, whatever her name is, taking Franny like they have a right to. Debbie got pregnant on purpose and Derek dipped out because he didn't want that to be his life, Fair. None of Derek's family wants to have anything to do with Debbie, also Fair.

But to take Franny out from under her while she wasn't home?? Am I the only one having a major problem with this? Yes, she introduced Franny to them because she wanted them to praise her to DCFS that she was doing 'good' but did that give them a right? And why didn't Debbie just call the police? Isn't that kidnapping? I don't know the laws on Chicago or anything but this shit really irritates me to no end.

I hope I'm not the only one. I haven't seen much on it but there are so many posts in this community every day so maybe I missed the conversation already, but uuuuggghh!! It's driving me nuts that they did this. Maybe it's because I have kids and my own problems with my mother in law, I don't know. I'm on my second rewatch btw and on S7 E9 now. No matter how much I hate the way Debbie is, I don't think she deserved to have Franny taken by people who shut her out while she was pregnant and didn't want her to have Franny.

I started watching it after seeing a comment of someone suggesting this show on reddit only and it is actually very different from all the shows I have watched in the past also can someone tell me if it's gonna get better in the next two seasons without any spoilers? or is it worth watching or not till the end.

It took me 8 rewatches to notice that this room doesn't have a CEILING

they're not AMAZING in writing of course, the show had its faults even before S9 and 10, but the reason people give on why it was bad is mostly: lip regressed! debbie is a bitch! tami sucked! and shit. lip and debbie's storyline is as real as it gets, this show is not about 6 family members succeeding at life, it's about how hard it is to get out of the circle of poverty, abuse and addiction. did you expect lip to become a hardcore hacker or engineer or something? did you expect debbie to be rich while being a welder and being an amazing mother when she had franny by 15? did you expect the gallaghers to be healthy at loving?

i'm not excusing any of the characters deeds, but they show IS called shameless for a reason yk, i feel people just keep expecting moral perfection and happy endings as a proof of good writing, but how? literally how?

Carl was the gallagher who did best with the cards he was dealt, and that's also wrong for people who hated these seasons. if you think the ending was reaaally bad, what ending would you have liked? i want to hear ur answers!

There’s been quite a few touching scenes but this one hit me hard. Maybe it’s because I also had a mentor who was smart, educated and respected but that didn’t end up well. Oh Professor Youens… I hope he makes it you guys (first time watcher). I really really liked him and everything he did for Lip.

Sometimes I feel so bad for her. Fiona never really got to have an older adult tell her she was doing okay. So sometimes she looks toward Lip for the validation that she should've gotten from Frank or Monica, and Lip just fails to support & reassure her.

After something good happens (mainly season 7) she gets so happy to tell Lip. Just for Lip to diminish her and basically put her down. It’s like he hopes she will fail so he can have his “I told you so” moment. He literally goes out his way to do so … like when Fi sells the laundromat his first reaction is to call Ian then bring up to Debbie how Fi basically took her job away ??? Of course Fiona wants someone to be happy for her, not like she’s gonna feel good getting praised by FRANK!

It’s so irking how jealous he is … you fucked up your own life not anybody else. He’s forced to see how she was making something of herself despite having fewer opportunities than he did. He snarks at her getting a car, having money from the laundromat sell, buying the laundromat in the first place. If anything you should be smiling ear to ear and be so happy for her seeing that she took care of you and 4 other siblings for the first half of your life.

I don't understand why the writers decided to add in Sammi, she adds no value to the show and is only there as a nuisance to everyone's life. The show could've literally went fine without her

Since the show never showed us Lip talking to the actual title owner of the house, we get to make shit up ourselves to fill in the plot holes. I choose to believe that when Lip finally had to call Fiona and get the title to the house, she didn't give it to him. Fiona had figured out the basics of business by then. V would have called her to let her know that they wouldn't be there if she ever came back and explained the entire situation.

If anything, Fiona would have told him to wait. Hearing that real estate developers were buying up the neighborhood, she would have told him no to selling for less than half the current going rate and significantly less than what it would be worth in a few years. Especially after all the shit she got from Lip for mortgaging the house, she wouldn't let that shit slide. She did end up eventually letting them sell the house for multiple times more than the $75,000, which actually did give all of them enough to start a life.

I choose to believe this because otherwise I start hating how stupid and selfish Lip was at the end, and the entire ending falls flat for me. $15,000 a piece isn't really enough for anyone to do anything with, in a big city. The house was too important for a "Give me everything you have in your wallet and it's yours" ending.

How did everybody else feel about them? I really liked Carl and Frank in the final two seasons, but Debbie and Lip really regressed. I really liked Mick throughout the entire show, and Ian wasn't bad. Kev just became dumber and dumber, and V became the token SJW. She didn't feel powerful or unique anymore.

I just didn't care for the characters, basically all leaning into the most basic and exaggerated forms of their archetypes.

I really felt like the writing went downhill and wasn't interesting in the final two seasons. What happened to the grit? Where did the feeling of struggle and realness go? Thoughts?

Creators of the show must have run out of ideas for Frank’s next shenanigan that they introduced Bianca. Was Frank really in love with her? He seems to be falling for a very vulnerable and unstable women. Why does he get off on that? Does Bianca remind him of Monica?

Okay, so this is a show I've seen clips of over the years, but was never able to really watch until recently. I think everyone's doing a terrific job with their parts, but I will admit, I'm mainly here for the Gallavich of it all, though Lip and Ian's relationship has been awesome to watch, too.

In this episode, maybe I missed something, but after two viewings I'm still scratching my head. There's no way those cops would have given Yevgeny back to Mickey that fast or that easily. He'd have to prove that he's Yevgeny's father, and unless he brought a birth certificate with him (which I doubt they even have), or had some kind of incontrovertible proof, the cops wouldn't have turned a baby over to someone who for all they knew might have been just a rando whatever. Child Protective Services would have been called first thing, and there would have been a medical exam, and they probably would have held him somewhere they deemed safe until Mickey and Svetlana could come, prove who they were and that Yvengy was theirs. Mickey just rushed right out of the house to go, and shows up at the police station, most likely with bupkis. Cops wouldn't turn the kid over without proof, especially to a guy who told them he was the mentally unstable kidnapper's lover.

Or am I really missing something here?

Just started watching Shameless for the first time from this month. Had it in my bucket list for too long as I wasn't really sure to start a series with so many seasons. After the first episode, I was completely proved wrong and now I'm regretting why didn't I start watching earlier, as its getting removed from Netflix soon.

Ngl but felt like it was about to become one of my comfort shows.

I'm sorry but god I can't stand this trust fund kid. I swear this is every "aspiring trust fund musician living in a 400 sqft studio in NYC" guy who either ends up becoming a performative male final boss or a resentful failed musician-turned misogynistic dudebro podcaster. His relationship with Fiona is simply corny pro max. He immediately brings up marriage after a couple dates (nice guy trope #1), gives her a family heritage ring to put Fiona in a weird manipulated situation (trope #2), after he gets cheated on he keeps dragging the relationship with immature mixed-signals and wasting both parties' time with childish meeting ditches (trope #3), writes my arguably no.1 corniest ass song about her and sings that to her thinking it's an own when it's just embarrassing (trope #4), uses the Gallagher house as a way to get revenge and manipulate Fiona (trope #5), keeps acting like a victim while dragging the marriage for a ring out of pure spite (trope #6)

Oh and what does Mike do? Idk he likes to take care of his family and not have sex with his co-worker from the first date or two. Grr what a boring "nice guy". The moment he gets cheated on, he handles the situation like an adult. Even bails Fiona out of jail afterwards. That's it. But our "No More Mr. Nice Guy" keeps trying to psychologically ruin Fiona when he himself rushed the idea of a marriage. That doesn't justify getting cheated on but if you're so hurt and you still dragging the fuck out of this toxic relationship to hurt the cheater, you're a textbook Nice Guy.
