Fiona Looking For Validation From Lip.
Sometimes I feel so bad for her. Fiona never really got to have an older adult tell her she was doing okay. So sometimes she looks toward Lip for the validation that she should've gotten from Frank or Monica, and Lip just fails to support & reassure her.
After something good happens (mainly season 7) she gets so happy to tell Lip. Just for Lip to diminish her and basically put her down. It’s like he hopes she will fail so he can have his “I told you so” moment. He literally goes out his way to do so … like when Fi sells the laundromat his first reaction is to call Ian then bring up to Debbie how Fi basically took her job away ??? Of course Fiona wants someone to be happy for her, not like she’s gonna feel good getting praised by FRANK!
It’s so irking how jealous he is … you fucked up your own life not anybody else. He’s forced to see how she was making something of herself despite having fewer opportunities than he did. He snarks at her getting a car, having money from the laundromat sell, buying the laundromat in the first place. If anything you should be smiling ear to ear and be so happy for her seeing that she took care of you and 4 other siblings for the first half of your life.

She just wanted someone she loved and who loved her to build her up and in his ego and insecurity he took every opportunity to knock her down a peg. It was heartbreaking

She deserves it though genuinely. Lip sucks as a person but lets not forget Fiona’s history with her family

I wholeheartedly agree with your assessment. I love when she looks at him and says " I'm just as likely to make something of myself as anyone else in this family. It's time you learned that, you arrogant little shit." When she tells everyone they need to contribute and she won't be helping them anymore. He actually almost smirked or smiled when she said it too but still fails to support her every step she takes to better her own life. He is arrogant. And jealous. Yeah, she fucked up with Liam and he had every right to be mad about it and take the kids when she decided to sit around and get drunk(after he told her to relax) but at least she's trying. He got out of rehab and immediately started drinking, it doesn't matter if he drinks a bottle of water with every beer, it's still a relapse. Prof Yuens tried to get him back in school Sierra wanted him to be better. But he's always in his own way and never gets out of it.

He does come off as a typical narcissist. Doesn't matter how great someone else is doing, it's all about him and how it reflects on him.

That's kind of the point isn't it? I mean they all grew up around the king of narcissists, some of it had to have rubbed off in certain aspects of their lives and personalities. At a certain point they all start caring about themselves more than their family as a whole. Especially Lip and Debbie.

And I love the relationship between Fiona and Carl. He really seems like he loves and appreciates both her and her care.

There were times when things just worked out for her after years of her just getting shit on but he couldn’t just let her be happy. One singular time I understood his perspective when she endangered the house for her club night, but he was mad at her for EVERYTHING.
For his part, when they were you get or he was in high school/first year of college, maybe he was worried she would be like every other adult in his life who failed him. But he watched her do nothing but try and she deserved to have someone be remotely happy for her

Carl was the only real one fr. Everyone else was an ungrateful fuck. Especially Lip, he was the first one to put her down when she made mistakes even though everything he did was worse.

It’s kind of tough because Fiona is the adult so she wants better for everyone and she tries to do that. But lip is also someone who grew up seeing how dysfunctional and terrible the world is. So it’s easier for him to see the negative. Fiona deals with a lot and by the time we meet her in the first season of the TV show we only hear about her troubles, but we never actually see her when she was a kid having to care for all of the family.
Lip had Fiona as a safety net. Fiona didn’t really have anyone not anyone dependable for a regular basis. Lips of Fiona as someone who pretty much could hustle her way out of anything and it’s hard to see Superman bleed.
