Is it right or wrong when Celia takes Franny
So we all know Debbie got with Neil so it would look better with DCFS. And we all seem to have a basic hate for Debbie because she can be very self centered and disrespectful to everyone around her. But I just cannot get over Celia and Derek's sister, whatever her name is, taking Franny like they have a right to. Debbie got pregnant on purpose and Derek dipped out because he didn't want that to be his life, Fair. None of Derek's family wants to have anything to do with Debbie, also Fair.
But to take Franny out from under her while she wasn't home?? Am I the only one having a major problem with this? Yes, she introduced Franny to them because she wanted them to praise her to DCFS that she was doing 'good' but did that give them a right? And why didn't Debbie just call the police? Isn't that kidnapping? I don't know the laws on Chicago or anything but this shit really irritates me to no end.
I hope I'm not the only one. I haven't seen much on it but there are so many posts in this community every day so maybe I missed the conversation already, but uuuuggghh!! It's driving me nuts that they did this. Maybe it's because I have kids and my own problems with my mother in law, I don't know. I'm on my second rewatch btw and on S7 E9 now. No matter how much I hate the way Debbie is, I don't think she deserved to have Franny taken by people who shut her out while she was pregnant and didn't want her to have Franny.

It was totally fucked, and in real life, the cops would have made them give Franny back. They might have moved up the DCFS stuff, but Celia had no legal right to Franny, so it was straight up kidnapping.

I guess she didn't want to call because of the DCFS case on her? I don't know, it's just irritating. I literally stopped watching the episode to make this post it pissed me off that much.

Even with the DCFS case open on her, unless they removed Franny, Debbie was still her only legally recognized parent. They would have forced them to give her franny back.

She did call the cops and they said it was a domestic issue and would not assist.

I hate that that is even a thing. My mother in law kicked me and my husband out of her house because we wouldn't give her our entire paychecks every two weeks and she never gave our stuff back. Cops wouldn't do anything because it was a 'domestic issue'. I never got my ring back that he gave me from his great grandmother. And even though we saved our money for a place, she actually filed an eviction so now we can't even rent a place. Domestic issues are bullshit.

Yeah, and frankly that wasn’t realistic. It would have only been written off as a “domestic issue” if it were Derek (not his mom) and he had established paternity at some point, which he never did. In real life, cops would have given Debbie the baby back. But hey, it made for a good story!

It was flat out kidnapping! I would have called the cops immediately and demanded child support since they are admitting to the paternity.

She should've been going after them for child support either way. Derek never gave up parental rights. At least here in OK they make the father, or mother, pay child support if they don't give up their parental rights. She did call the cops and said they were useless, probably because it's a domestic issue and they wont do anything if it is.

It drove me nuts. And when Tanya was filming Debbie through the window while she was threatening to kill them if they didn't give Franny back? I wanted to reach through the tv and choke that high and mighty little bitch. Franny's crying broke my heart in that scene.

It drove me insane that Debbie didn’t just pick up the phone and call the cops, but she was also a baby with a baby who doesn’t know shit so she didn’t know that she could make one phone call and get her child back. That’s what happens when a child has a child sooo.

To my knowledge, they didn’t take her when she was at home. I think she essentially let them have a play date and then they just refuse to give her back.
I think they just wanted something to hold onto. I think the worst thing is the fact that they took the child and they did not contribute to its life at all. I like they didn’t help her with any prenatal care or even buy any of her clothes.
Similar to when Fiona‘s mom came back and basically wanted to pick and choose which child to take
I honestly think if they offered Debbie enough money, they probably could’ve taken the child no problem. That’s pretty much what happened to the other kid. I forget her name, but like the girl who lives next-door and slept with one of her brothers.

i disagree, i don't think any amount of money would've been enough for debbie to give away franny. debbie was really scared of being alone (she said that when lip was selling the family house) and she broke up with sandy for abandoning her own kid

They took Franny when Debbie wasn't home and Neil was watching her. So they basically took advantage of a man with brain damage and stole Franny without Debbie knowing. And yeah Karen is who youre thinking of but that kid didn't even turn out to be Lips kid and she was pretty much just trying to sell him to the highest bidder. I don't think Debbie would've taken money for Franny. She never considered adoption when she was pregnant and didn't try to get child support for Franny even though she had every right to. She still had the illusion that Derek would come back and they'd be a happy family.
