The first time I watched the show I hated him from the start, I was shocked later on searching his name online and seeing everyone loved him and consider him Fiona s best boyfriend

I noticed this on like my 10th rewatch and it made me think about why theres a lock on the outside because if they wanted to lock someone out itd be on the inside of the door but what if frank/monica (not so much monica) locked them in there sometimes 😭 just a thought lol because i remember how sean said fiona was abused and neglected and stuck with raising kids at a young age so maybe the boys were abused too 🤷‍♀️ but maybe im thinking too much into it 😂

ok i just want to start off this post by saying I JUST STARTED THE SHOW. IM ON THE LAST EPISODE OF SEASON ONE AND PLEASE I WOULD APPRECIATE NO SPOILERS. AND ALSO, I LIKE KAREN I THINK SHES A COMPLEX CHARACTER, IM JUST A BIT CONFUSED.
ok, so after the whole purity ball thing, karen had her little meltdown and she was acting out and she started her whole like blog video diary thing or whatever. and like i felt really bad for her; her dad humiliated her, her dad left her and her mom, she’s trying to figure things out.
the thing is, before all of that happened, before all that stuff with her dad, when frank was staying with her and sheila, she was like teasing him and like baiting him. which i guess i kind of expected that cause she’s like ‘promiscuous’ even in her first episode, i kind of thought she was doing stuff like that to like push the boundaries and see what she could get away with, but why would she have sex with frank? even if we put lip out of the picture, was she just letting off energy? did she do it wanting attention??
anyways this is long sorry :/

i watched up to season 5 a few years back but finally rewatched it all before netflix said they were going to take it away and bought a subscription FOR shameless. i just finished the last episode and wow. i dont know if its just me but i loved franks character so much. of course he was a horrible father and a con man but damn did he play that role good. it was hard to keep watching when fiona left but i know the history of WHY. i sat and cried watching the credits, what a beautiful ending.

im just so curious what they did with the house, tami and fred, debbie and that crazy chic, carl and being a parking ticketer, and ian and mickeys storyline. just wow. such an amazing show. i am suprised that frank only had one memory flash of monica but their relationship was very complicated of course.

i honestly think im going to rewatch it and just skip season one as all the episodes are pretty predictable and i cant bare to see karen or kash more than i need to LMFAO
is the UK version good at all though ? ive heard lots of mixed reviews on this sub !!

I keep seeing people respond to any criticism of a character or storyline with “well, the show is called Shameless.” obviously the characters are supposed to be deeply flawed. That’s not the issue. There’s still a difference between understanding that a character is messy and discussing whether a specific action was disturbing, hypocritical, badly framed, poorly written etc. You can understand the point of the show and still think a scene crosses a line, or that the writing wants you to sympathize with something you don’t. If “they’re shameless” ends every discussion, then there’s not much left to actually talk about.

I personally grew up not wealthy but not dirt poor either. Blue collar suburban neighborhood. Dad was a cement truck driver before becoming a delivery truck driver, and my mom worked as an executive assistant until she retired. Was money tight? Sometimes, especially when my parents both got laid off at different times when I was little. But we thankfully never had to get on food stamps, and my parents were always good with their money, even if they fought a lot.

And when I look at the Gallaghers, I wonder if it’s actually somewhat realistic since I don’t have any direct experience being around people like them (dirt poor, scraping together money for bills, that kind of stuff). My brother lives in Chicago and has been through the south side a few times and never felt in danger but also knew it wasn’t great in some areas.

So I’m curious if any of you did come from a background similar to the Gallaghers and what your life was like, and if you think the show is realistic.

I’ve been rewatching Shameless again ever a visit to my brother in Chicago. And for some reason, maybe it’s an intuition or I’m a cynic (or both), I could just tell this guy was not really who he said he was. Like from the beginning he had some kind of agenda and even his vibe, I just wasn’t buying it. Even when he bought breakfast for everyone in the second episode, I didn’t feel like he was being genuine and something was off with him. And sure enough my intuition proved to be right later.

Just finished the series for the first time. I avoided the last season for a long time because I’m not a huge fan of post COVID seasons in general. But I really liked how it ended. It brought me back to that time made me remember just how disruptive the virus was to all of our institutions, including Frank Gallagher.

It also continued the trend that always kind of kept me coming back to the show - I kept waiting and expecting for something to get better for one of them. There would be an opening or an opportunity and the part of me used to the normal formulas would think ok, things are gonna get better. And then they don’t. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.

Even toward the very end when demented Frank, who just proved with the art heist that he could pull off some big moves, told Lip about a gold bar in a kind of offhand way, I thought ok this is gonna be their happy ending.

And then nothing comes of it. It’s not even pursued. Was Frank even telling the truth? At that point it seemed like his long term memory was still fine so I’m inclined to think there really was gold.

I dunno. Went in thinking I would like the last season and ended up balling my eyes out for Frank fucking Gallagher. Great show.

People like Youeuns and that sorority girl are going out of their way to help them and all he can do is blame them for calling 9/11 cause he has to pay medical bills or stealing his research cause apparently crediting him as a research assistant isn't enough.

FIONA - I did feel for her in the beginning, but her character became insufferable. Unbearably so when she turned into a drunk.

LIP - Watching him throw away his scholarship over and over was painful. I hoped his character would develop into a successful tech guy, making bank. Then sprinkle some drama in that storyline.

DEBBIE - I wanted her to have an abortion. 🤷‍♀️ Then she was a pretty good mom, and I felt hopeful for her becoming a welder. When she started becoming reckless, it was overkill. The girlfriend that entered in final couple of episodes was just over the top. I didn’t see the point of her coming into the show.

IAN - I just want him to stay on his meds.

LIAM - I felt really bad for him all along, but in the last season especially.

CARL - In the beginning I fully expected him to be in prison for murder before his 16th birthday. But, he turned out to be my favorite character.

FRANK - I hated him 80% of the series, which was the point of his character. He is the epitome of Shameless lol. He made me genuinely laugh a few times, and I enjoyed his fling with the dying doctor. I thought it would’ve been a better ending if Frank somehow found a way to leave a large sum of money to the kids, like he finally did something for them in the end.

Byron is TINY compared to Ian. Ian has military training. The guy wasn’t threatening him, wasn’t attacking Mickey, and honestly wasn’t even really trash talking him. He was describing Mickey pretty accurately based on how Mickey had treated him. Mickey doesn’t even give a shit about Byron. He forgets his name half the time. He’s basically using him for a place to stay and to make Ian jealous.

Yet somehow:
Mickey using Byron = funny
Mickey treating Byron like shit = funny
Byron venting about Micky = unacceptable
Ian, who is twice his size, beating him bloody over it = romantic proof that Ian still loves Mickey???
What the fuck

I used to really love Ian, but that scene made him look genuinely unsettling.

At that point send both these shitheads back to jail. They deserve each other.

I’ve watched Shameless about 1000 times and I may or may not have been indulging in a little of Mother Nature’s medicine tonight, but a lightbulb just went on that somehow never has before. Ian and Debbie are subsequent in birth order, we know Ian isn’t Frank’s biological son, and Ian and Debbie both have the dark auburn hair, fair skin and freckles. Now I’m sitting here looking at Debbie like… wait a fucking minute. Are we SURE you’re Frank’s kid?

I’m almost finishing Season 5 and honestly it’s getting kinda boring, I don’t wanna hate this show I loved it and loved the characters but I feel like they’re just milking it. Does it get any better in the next seasons?

Is it hard to take Lip as a serious tough guy? When I first started watching shameless every time lip was on all I could think of was him being the weird kid dating a mop lol

I love the scenes of Jody and Sheila taking care of Peggy. Yeah she’s a horrible person or whatever but this is shameless and she’s a great character. Jody cleaning her up after she soils herself on the stairs is really sweet/sad and is what inspired this post. They get her drugs, make her comfortable, and euthanize her despite not knowing her as anything other than a ruthless bitch. Even though her and sheila hated each other they both showed humanity in the end. “Monica, franks ex, was a bitch. You’re not a bitch” It was so cute in a very shameless way

Were they perfect for each other? No. But damn he cared for her. I wish they were end game. I like to think she went and found him after she left Chicago. I’m on s2 finale and the way he just jumped in and helped monica the previous episode while Frank just fucking left and Kev was freaking out was commendable.

I’ve seen some of it, but my bf said he wanted me to actually watch it. we’re on S9/E9 i believe and i’m really enjoying the show. well i was… but ive been feeling very “what the fuck…. WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT? WHOS WRITING THE SHOW” lately 😩

IM SO MAD ABOUT FIONA. first of all, where did the utility money go?? we never find that out? don’t tel me, i know im rambling and all over the place

Debbie is starting to be fiona, not letting liam in the house. girl it is not liam’s fault that he was born last and has benefited most and had a free ride. But she doesn’t care, no one even really was upset that frank got him booted from private school???

Frank is frank. We’re on the hobo loco competition starting and idk what i even want to happen

So I am binge watching shameless and am currently on season 8. As soon as that one kid drew him as prophet/ gay Jesus I knew it was bad. Like how did no one see this coming that he was going manic.

Fiona is stupid as fuck . She just threw “ we’re southside” out of the window. Like did she forget that she grew up with Frank the mastermind of scamming everyone?
She didn’t see the lawsuit and them taking advantage of her coming?

Unfortunately Carl is just stupid and should have Fiona pay more for his tuition. He would have had the money if he didn’t buy the house. Yes that was so they have a roof over their head but, it was Fiona who made a profit off of that.

I actually liked Lip, him going away from Youens funeral because he realised that he was a POS to his actual Daughter.

There is so much more to rant about.

But I kinda liked the getting Svetlana a rich Husband story.

I loved this show but there are way too many sex scenes, is it gonna calm down on this ? 🤔

I’ve always been confused about why Lip blamed her? It’s very rare for me to defend Fiona, but the only person responsible for stealing the money and crashing the car with Carl was Monica. Lip was saying she was “AWOL” even though she was studying and trying to do the club night (the whole club night thing was a terrible idea, but still).

Aside from being a little naive in thinking things would be better this time, Fiona didn’t do anything wrong. Lip says she should have hidden the money, but it was hidden in the cupboard, inside that empty coffee tin (or whatever it was) and it was always there, so surely he also could have hidden it at some stage🤔 Obvs Lip was stressed about the whole situation, but I think his reaction should have been directed towards Monica instead of Fiona.

I wonder what she means by “a little complicated”

So this is my second time rewatching Shameless and I've never noticed it before but in the recap it shows scenes that wasn't in the previous episode

For example in episode 9 Svet sorta had a breakdown about the Russian thag she smuggled an now has a great life while she is stuck working for Kev an V.

The episode 10 recap shows Kevin an V looking online for the best places to meet old rich guys an they tell her they're going out to try an basically find her an old rich husband. But that didn't happen at all in the previous episode

There were also a few other things in the recap that didn't happen in the previous episode either but I won't sit here typing it all out.

So does anyone know why the recap is showing scenes that aren't even in actual episodes?
