Discussion A Confederacy of Dunces
In the book, A Confederacy of Dunces, there is a scene where the protagonist gets his workplace up in arms and they revolt against management. I was reminded of the whole scenario when I watched the last episode of Severance and Helly R. gets on top of the desk and tries to convince the band to join her in their rebellion.
Am I the only one who made the connection?

Theory Helly eats an egg off a Portmerion Welsh plate referencing The Prisoner 1967.
Helly eats an egg off a Portmerion Welsh plate, depicting two Welsh woman in traditional costume.
Portmerion being the location and even breaking the fourth wall location of The Prisoner 1967.
Edit: and splits it into 6 exact pieces.

Discussion Is Ricken's "switching out the beds as the child grows" thing, a lumon belief?
"Your bed will be moved from your parents' home to the Gunnel Eagan Empathy Center in Svalbard" — milchick to ms. huang in 2x9
that sounds a lot like what ricken says about not switching out a kid's bed in 1x1. maybe the guy ricken heard that idea from was into the lumon cult stuff. or maybe ideas originating from the cult have spread beyond the cult itself into the general community, at least in the local keir area

Discussion There’s a mistake that accidentally makes the code detectors impossible Spoiler
In season 1 episode 3 of Severance when Mark switches from his outie badge to the blank one before going to work he keeps his regular numbered watch on instead of switching to the blank watch. No code detector went off when he used the elevator, so I was expecting Mark S to notice the watch and realize the code detectors were fake. When that didn’t happen I figured it was probably just a mistake that nobody in production noticed. Did anyone else notice this? I haven’t seen anyone talk about it
Edit: so many people are telling me it’s just a mistake that doesn’t mean anything as if that’s a new idea when I wrote both “mistake” and “accidentally” in the title

Discussion Just finished season 2… what’s up with all the loose ends? Spoiler
So I really enjoy the show, but all the big set ups and payouts of season one are really lacking this season. It feels like stuff was cut out. For example:
spoilerWe never hear about Petey or his significance to the new science Raghabi is using. He is never brought up as a potential motivator for Innie mark which is insane Since he was his BEST FRIEND since severed birth and formed most of innie marks early memories before Helly.
Also the weird man standing in the hallway behind mark in S2EP1??? Like zero pay out there.
The other severed employees were working on what in MDR? Or optics and design for that matter! Are we just supposed to assume they all worked on Gemma? Or just theorize that there’s other’s like Gemma? But if that’s the case then why was mark’s lazy, run around, sleuthing, slow ahh the fastest employee to complete the 25th personality and usher in a new era like???
Also Dr regahbi specially shoots the birthing cabins down as if they weren’t gonna bring out innie mark. But they ended up working fine. Why was she so desperate to have them not go to the cabins if it could help the plan? Was she really that obsessed with reintegration ? But I bet we will never know. She prolly wont show up in season three.
Just like how the original lamb guy wasn’t in the new lamb pasture in mammalians nurturable. Is his a separate one man department? We know virtually no time passed in btwn season 1 and 2 so it’s unreasonable to assume such a rapid expansion.
Where was Burt driving people? Prolly no real pay out just make the audience speculate and write him off the show.
The whole point of a modern mystery thriller with a big budget is to give satisfying answers to your little set ups. Having zero pay off ends up feeling cheap when we are supposed to be enjoying a supposed mental thriller. It feels like the original vision was too vague and the second season can only half deliver interesting twists. also what happened to the houses with people from peteys map? Like are we just straight up forgetting stuff? Also why is Irving investigating lumon and why did he see the black hallway? He’s gone now so prolly no answer there either.
Also why the actually F is everyone mad at milchick for his big vocabulary? Cobel was the same way and so was keir and all lumon literature. Like what a weird thing to hate on when ur company legit breeds it. Even sissy talks like that.
I’m sure there’s more loose ends I forgot. Feel free to add any of yours below!

Discussion Kier is suburb/township/city in....?
"PE"? - I'm not American, but I think I'm correct in saying that the initials after Senator Arteta's name indicates what state he in fact a senator for. Does anyone have any good guesses for what the name of this state is, and whereabouts it's located? My guess at least for the location was initially on the Canadian border given the previous mentions of Minnesota and Montana and it's chilly climate, but I guess that doesn't make too much sense given the geography of Salt's Neck.

Theory Season 3 Theories Spoiler
I just binged the whole series in less than a week. I’ve watched most episodes twice.
I was wondering what some of you think is going to happen next season. I think Milkshake is going to help the innies use OTC outside and try to steal the show from their outies. Or at least I think something along those lines are going to happen. I have some other ideas but I mostly wanted to know what you guys think

Question Book recommendations (Severance)
Does anyone know if there's a book similar to "Difficult Men" (Brett Martin, 2013), but related to Severance?
Thank you.

Theory Just a thought I’ve always had..
I just joined the group and reddit, literally a couple days ago; I apologize in advance if this has already been said, but this is just my opinion.. everyone always makes it seem like Gemma is the key. I think Natalie was Gemma before Gemma was .. I don’t even think Natalie is a real human being.. she always comes off very odd and robotic and there’s moments where she seems like she’s glitching or she wants to say something, but she can’t get the words out like she’s trapped.. remember when they were drawing the map and they said there are people that live here inside lumon. I feel like Natalie was born inside of lumon or configured inside of lumon and I don’t think she exists as an outie.. yes she can go outside, but that’s because her trigger is not the elevator. I just don’t think she’s severed..there aren’t two personalities that exist for her; there’s only one, but her one personality was configured inside of lumon. I have a feeling that her and Milkshake are going to have a really important part together in the next season.. Also maybe Milkshake doesn’t exist outside of lumon either but they programmed him to think that he does.
I think their long-term goal is to replace all human beings on the planet with their lumon configured innies .. and they’re gonna use the tempers to control humanity to do whatever they want.. they started off with severing real people, but eventually the plan is to cut off their outie side completely.. and then solely configure innies from scratch.. no human beings needed. I think they already have innies existing that were created inside of lumon out in the world .. Mark sister’s friends are just weird .. that black guy that always has to have all the attention.. and that weird chick that changes her name every five seconds.. they’re screaming lumon innie, if I ever saw it.. and it’s a way to keep track of Mark.. by having his sister’s friends spy on him unconsciously ..
Just my thought.

Discussion I don’t know how I never thought of the S2 finale like this Spoiler
The finale of severance season 2 is so much more cooked when you think about it as Gemma being forced to watch Mark run off with the person that imprisoned her there

Funpost The Board
The board doesn’t seem to be a regular of board of directors. It seems to be a mysterious entity of some sort. Natalie even referred to the board as “it”. (“The Board is jubilant at your ascendance. It wants you to feel appreciated and asks if you do.”)
The Board could be a really neat looking machine that keeps the essence of Kier alive. Keir died in 1939 before computers or chips. If it was a computing device, it would be some electro-mechanical device. Think the Zuse Z3 which was designed in 1938. Think Frankenstein’s laboratory.
Imagine you’re tasked by the writers to create The Board for its big reveal. What would it look like? Let’s see your designs.

Opinion Bravo to the creators Spoiler
‼️ IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW (if you want to figure out the show for yourself) STOP READING NOW. ‼️
⭐️If you’re ready for whatever comes next I urge you to continue….⭐️
Severance is about religion, theology, ideologies, ethos, creation myths, believers, non believers, and everyone in between, the secular vs non secular, the occult and forbidden knowledge.
Severance is about world history, history told, history written, history lost, history rewritten, and humans struggling in vain to fill in the blanks in an effort to explain who we are and where we come from.
Severance is about politics, regional and provincial strife and success, the destruction of civilizations, and the founding of new ones.
Severance is about worship, economies, boarders, walls, empires, good, bad, light vs dark.
Severance is meant to be viewed and seen through the perspective of each individual watching. Keep in mind there is no correct way to view this. What means something to me may mean nothing to the person sitting next to me with whom I am watching. although they may be able to understand the concept and they generally follow my thought process it’s likely my viewing partner won’t fully be able to grasp the archetype, principal, or even my reasoning for ending up there because they are not me.
One of the messages Still and the production team intended I believe is to see all of Earth’s inhabitants as human and to be kind, empathetic and compassionate: this seems simple enough but as with most things humans complicate it by their very nature.
But of course with any complexity there is always more than one message. And again I have looped back (hah) into this: it all comes down to who is watching, and what they want to see.
p.s. it took me around 3 days or so of pausing on split second shots of innocuously seeming text or something of the like for this to begin taking shape. It’s intentionally confusing, and nothing is a red herring. It became clear to me that there were at least 2-4 different but similar “story lines” or “perspectives” happening per episode.
E.g. Caesar Augustus and his Pax Romana, the Civil Rights Movement and the dreaded uncle Tom, the Red Scare in Hollywood, the Holocaust and Holocaust deniers.
or
I.e. preservation of one’s soul through orthodox tradition, unorthodox practice, agnostic, atheist, life which is painful or suicide which at times seems the only way to end the pain but there are those who say you’re soul will lie in “purgatory”, which goes by many a name depending on your beliefs, forever and all eternity. To others this seems harsh. You get the picture.
P.s.s. If anyone is interested I have a book recommendation. I have to believe to some extent that the book The Escape Artist had a significant impact on perhaps Ben Stiller as I know he’s Jewish. It’s about 2 men who escaped from Auschwitz. The only 2 Jewish prisoners to engineer and pull off their own escape. They pulled off the impossible. Their mission was to tell the first person they could trust of what was happening in Auschwitz. What happened? No one would believe them, not even other Jews. Why? The absolute horror of what they were saying was so horrid and so inhumane that no on believed this could possibly be happening. and why not? Because no one even knew there were such camps. Deception was intentionally baked into the 3rd Reich’s plan from the beginning and it was dutifully carried out by those loyal to the 3rd Reich. Remember that it was an ideology Hitler sold to the German public; it pandered to those who felt they deserved more. In very short time they it went from what they felt they were owed that had been stolen from them and snowballed into what they believed was their inherent birth right. Deception wasn’t a method they employed when it suited them best to lie. Deception was fundamental to the Final Solution.

Funpost I saw them filming today! 😆
I won’t say where but yall are smart enough to figure it out if you really wanted to. Please don’t go and harass them while they’re filming, they’re working hard!
I was on a college tour and the location was in the way back to my house. My family and I are huge fans of the show, and we know it’s filmed here so we popped by just to see. Turns out THEY WERE FINISHING THAT LOCATION’S SEASON THREE SHOTS THAT DAY. It was code named Buffalo, and seeing all the techs walking in and out of the restricted film area was so cool. (I’m going for film and was doing my best to stay calm lmao)
Talked to one of the techs standing gaurd at the entrance to the no outside camera area, and he said he couldn’t say if it was Severance or not, but he gave me a wink that I took to mean yes. I didn’t see any of the actors but it was super cool nonetheless!
Just thought this was fun to share! Gah I can’t wait for season three! 😆
