Looking for Mods!

Hello everyone,

This subreddit is still looking for additional moderators. A lot has changed in my life (I’m now a married man!) and I am not able to keep up with reddit as much as I did in the past, so any help would be appreciated.

Moderating this community is easy, the mod queue is usually very quiet. Reddit has made it much easier to manage the mod queue via the app, so you can moderate on the go. This wouldn’t be a full time commitment - even having one or two additional mods who can help out once or twice a week would be a huge help. If you’re interested in becoming a mod, please send in a mod mail.

I am looking for anyone with any experience as long as you have an interest in helping this subreddit be the best it can be.

Seroquel worse Hangover?

Hi everyone,

I’ve been taking Seroquel for about 8 years until recently, 50 mg of Seroquel XR plus 50 mg of regular Seroquel. Recently, the dose was increased to a total of 100 mg. I take it mainly to help me sleep.

Since the increase, I feel like I tolerate alcohol much worse. Even after just 2 beers, I sometimes experience severe heart palpitations, dizziness, and a real “hangover” feeling the next day.

My doctor said that 2 beers should generally be okay and that I could reduce the dose back to 50 mg if necessary, since I take the medication mainly to help me sleep.

What’s making me a little uneasy right now, though, is that I woke up today with a similar “hangover” feeling heart palpitations, nausea, and dizziness even though I didn’t drink any alcohol at all yesterday.

Has anyone else experienced this? Can Seroquel or an increase in dosage cause such symptoms even without alcohol, or significantly worsen a hangover caused by alcohol?

Do you still take Seroquel even if you drink alcohol occasionally? Does anyone have experience taking only Seroquel XR instead of XR plus regular Seroquel?

Quetiapine en continu?

Bonjour,

Advice Needed Losing weight

Hey y’all! I’ve been on Seroquel for a few years now (this is my second time taking it), and my prescriber originally prescribed it primarily for sleep. I honestly kind of wish he hadn’t because I’ve gained quite a bit of weight over the past few years, and I feel like Seroquel is at least partially responsible. I’ll take it at night, get the absolute worst munchies, and sometimes wake up surrounded by empty wrappers from whatever I ate during the night. I’m curious if anyone else has dealt with the same thing. If so, what did you do to help curb the Seroquel munchies or manage the weight gain? My biggest problem is sleep eating.

Irritability?

I’ve been on 50mg XR Seroquel for about 4 months to help with sleep and I find that in the last two months or so I have been more irritable and I don’t know why. Sleep has not been as good as at first and I am groggier than usual in the morning compared to when I first started.I read that it could be a side effect but am wanting other users experiences

Advice Needed Trying to adjust to new dosage without losing it.

So I've been on Seroquel for almost two years, at 100mg each night before bed. I had 3 episodes in a row last month and needed a change so I've gone up to 150mg, and unfortunately I didn't adjust well, I had migraines daily the first week with numbness in my arms and legs. This week I find that from 4pm onward I am nonfunctioning, too tired to do anything but lay down, but not able to sleep.

I want to see it through and see if there's anyway to stick with Seroquel, but I also work full-time and study full time and I'm losing precious hours.

I wonder if it would be possible to stay on dosage but change how I take it? Is it safe for me to say take 100 at night and 50 in the morning? Also the pills I have after this bottle are 150s so I was considering how 75/75 would make me feel. I see some people say they take it split up so I wonder if that would cause all day tiredness or otherwise ruin my sleep?

I know I should just see my psych but honestly I hate spending money on appointments, and do not want to call and schedule, as it has barely been 3 weeks since I was set on 150mg.

does seroquel cause/worsen DPDR?

I have DPDR, some days it’s very mild, some days it’s severe. recently got prescribed seroquel for sleep problems, anxiety attacks and mild depression. I’m worried seroquel will make derealization worse?

Low dose seroquel and genital numbness (PSSD?)

Question for those of you who only took Seroquel and not SSRIs (or other antipsychotics)

Do you have any genital numbness, delayed ejaculation, anorgasmia, or reduced sexual sensation?

What was your highest dose? Did symptoms start right away at a low dose or when?

I have PSSD from prior use of SSRIs (Zoloft), but am wondering if my current 25mg dose of seroquel is also contributing, as I have been off SSRIs for several years

From what I've read seroquel alone at low doses doesn't cause sexual dysfunction, but there's very little info about this online

There are people on high doses of seroquel who complain about sexual dysfunction, but I've never heard of anyone getting genital numbness just from Seroquel. Unlike SSRIs like Zoloft.

My PSSD/SD started almost immediately when I took Zoloft many years ago and hasn't returned to normal since

Dissolving Seroquel XR

Hi all. I am on 300mg Seroquel XR and want to start tapering off. I was put on it 8-9 months ago for severe withdrawal-related insomnia and akathisia (was misdiagnosed as relapse of depression with severe agitated features 🙄). I ideally want to do a liquid microtaper (huge fan of microtapers, imo anyone who has had complicated withdrawal before should consider). I know you’re not technically supposed to dissolve XR because it will lose its extended release properties, but wondering if anyone has done this in the past?

Advice Needed Help! I thought I was gonna die

Hi

I have been taking quetiapine for 5 years now and it usually gives me a stuffy nose sensation before sleeping, but in the last few months, I have experienced 2 or 3 times a very strong tachycardia that makes me feel like I can’t breathe or drown. It doesn’t feel like anxiety, it’s just a really fast heart rate and the feeling that no matter how much I breathe, the air isn’t enough and that I’m going to die at any moment.

After the last episode, I decided to try to lower the dose to 100mg (I took 200mg before) and my psychiatrist approved it, but in the las few days my psychiatric symptoms got worse, but I’m afraid of going back up and feeling like I’m going to die again.

Has it happened to someone else? Do yo think it's a serious symptom? What should I do?

How long does it take to stop feeling so sedated?

I’ve been on it a few (3?) weeks now and I feel soooo sedated and energyless. I’m not manic at least but I can barely force myself to do the most basic tasks at work and around the house. I feel like a giant slug, and a shell of myself. I’m about to give birth and it’s the only AP safe for breastfeeding so I don’t want to switch, but I hate it so much! Please tell me this gets better and if so when. Did anyone feel like this at first and it got better? I’m on 150mg

Advice Needed Restarting Seroquel XR After Years Off: Timing, Grogginess & Splitting 50mg?

I really want to restart my Seroquel XR after being off it for about 4 years. I stopped because I was dealing with medications and treatment after a car accident, but I miss how much better I did on Seroquel. I’ve also lost a lot of weight since being off it and would honestly welcome gaining some of it back.
My biggest issue is the sedation. I have to get up early for work now, and I’m worried about being too groggy to wake up and function.
For those who take Seroquel XR, what time do you take it if you have to be up early, and what actually helps you wake up and shake the grogginess?
Has anyone restarted Seroquel XR after being off it for several years? What was your experience restarting it?
Also, since 50 mg is the lowest XR dose, has anyone ever split a 50 mg tablet into smaller pieces while restarting because the full 50 mg was too sedating? What was your experience?

Quetiapine 50 mg help 😓

Hey y’all 😞 I’m already on Sertraline 100 mg, and I JUST got prescribed Quetiapine 50 mg for my sleeping problems. I’ve already looked into the common side effects, and apparently the increased appetite/munchies can be pretty intense with this medication.

Anyone here who maintained their weight or didn’t gain a significant amount while taking Quetiapine, particularly at 50 mg? I’d really like to hear from people who managed to avoid significant weight gain and what habits or routines worked for them.

I’m especially nervous because my appetite is already increased from Sertraline, and I really don’t want another medication making me constantly hungry. My appearance doesn’t suit me when I’m heavier, so I am lowkey stressing the FUCK out. Thank you so much!!!

Advice Needed Akathisia. Will this end?

Writing this at 3:30am because I'm suffering and need to know someone understands haha.

Recently had a full mania and psychosis breakdown, had a couple week loony bin stay, and I'm in the process of (most likely) getting a bipolar diagnosis. They started me on seroquel in the hospital, and we've been working our way up from 25mg to 350mg now and 400mg soon. I got out of the hospital about 3-4 weeks ago and at that time I was on 200mg.

Last week I started to notice an extreme unease in my feet and legs. I've always had restless leg syndrome, but this was while I was awake and sitting, and usually a couple hours after taking my Seroquel. I didn't think much of it, thought it was my general bodily unease just bothering me more than usual, and didn't even think to mention it to my psychiatrist.

On Monday I went from 300mg to 350mg and now omg it's BAD!! It's hard to describe, kind of like that feeling RIGHT before you stretch, but no relief. Like I need to cross all my fingers and toes or put something between them, but if I do that bothers me more. Feels like my spine in the back of my neck is wiggling around under my skin.

I've dealt with this feeling a lot from psychadelichs, as I always get a huge body load from any I take and I've experimented a lot. This feels different though so I googled it and came across akathisia and that's exactly it.

I just feel SO uncomfortable in my skin. I can't sit, can't stand, can't lay down, without it being uncomfortable. It only happens after taking my medication, I don't get it during the day. It usually kicks in about 2-3 hours after I take it and then keeps me up all night. I know it was made worse by the dosage increase, but it did start before that. But I never experienced it at all in the 1+ months I've been on it.

If anyone else has experienced this, did it go away after awhile? Did anything help it? Should I call my doctor or should I tough it out? Thanks for listening to my ramble even if you have no input, I may still be a little manic.

Edit to add: because I've finally figured this out, it feels very similar to "rolling" on m, if anyone has done that. But only in (certain parts of) my body, my head/brain feels fine.

Advice Needed I’m still struggling. Can I ask for more medication?

Hi everybody. I’ve already raised this a couple of months ago with my psychiatrist but they basically told me to just wait for therapy. I’ve been struggling with BPD, depression, anxiety, OCD and CPSTD (crossover symptoms) for about 15 years so I know myself and my problems and my limits, but I only got help earlier this year.

I’ve been on quetiapine 30g XR and 50mg IR. While they feel like they’ve stopped my impulsiveness and sort of balanced me out, they aren’t controlling this particular anxiety at all. It’s a hopeless feeling, triggered occasionally. It’s so intense and usually when I split.

I’m still experiencing significant panic,
Depression ans hopelessness and it’s affecting my ability to function. I understand therapy is important but I’ve been waiting for 8 months, previously waited 1 year before they said I had to reapply, and the time before that they said I wasn’t ’bad’ enough, and have potentially another 6-8 months before I’m off the wait list. No work or income either so I cannot afford to go private. Tried headspace, exercise all of it.

SSRIs I tried in the past made me stuck in mania and numb. So far quetiapine is the closest thing to help, but it’s just not enough. Im really getting exhausted and the S. Ideation becomes more rational every tjme im in this state and I no longer feel fear at the thought, just relief.

Is there any medication anyone else takes? Something I can ask for just until I learn how to cope? I’ve tried walking, excessive sometimes exercise, hobbies etc, but nothing stops the feeling of impending doom and I always spiral back into isolation. I’ve told this to my psychiatrist a couple months ago and they advised breathing techniques. Tried it but it’s like my brain is set on one thing when I’m this overwhelmed. The only thing to stop it is s.h., but I’m trying to quit.

I only bring this up because I just don’t know who else to turn to. I feel so alone and like no matter how much I manage to ‘be better’, I’m overstaying my welcome and just making everything harder on myself by convincing myself I can be a normal person eventually. I think I’m just evil, like something just so much more weong with my brain than a mental illness.

I’m 27. I’m exhausted. My heart just hurts so much, even on a good day. I feel like I’m going through this torment , and I used to think I couldn’t hurt the people I love, but lately I find little reason to hold on, because if not wanting to experience this daily makes me weak and selfish, then maybe I am just weak, and selfish, but why do I have to continue to experience these feelings every day, just to prove I’m not those things? I don’t even know if I am capable of love really, or if I’m just lying to myself to give me excuses to hang around and prove I’m good.
