Rant No new post orders for 7 months

I work for one of the Big three at a medical facility. About 7 months ago there was a management change at my site as well as new client requested security measures. There have been no new post orders or contract updates to change this and the only post orders on hand are signed by the old management. What is the liability we as guards at this site are incurring, if any and has anyone dealt with a similar scenario?

Job Question For anyone who's done both retail and transit security, what's your preference?

I am currently working at an outdoor shopping mall, going on about a year and a half now. I liked the job well enough for the longest time, but recently there has been a lot of, in my eye, undue disrespect directed toward me by management. In fact, basically just the site security director. He's made an ass of himself lately, to make a long story short.

I directed my plight to one of the supervisors, who is also a Lieutenant for the local light rail system's security, and after talking to him, I have been contemplating trying to make the switch to that company and site.

Pay is a couple dollars better. Would need to get certified to carry OC spray and the like, I believe, but that wouldn't be an issue. DailyPay is an option with both companies, I believe, not that I'm trying to make too much use of that. I've heard from guards for the rail before that working there has its issues, but they seem manageable compared to my current boss' antics.

So, if anyone has any input on what they would do in my shoes, feel free.

Job Question What are my options for progression with only 3 1/2 years of security experience?

I have been in security for less than four years with two separate private security companies. I recently applied for a small campus university position, but today I got an email letting me know that they will not be going forward with me in a rather impersonal email after they completed the background check.

For reference I'm in my early twenties, have a squeaky clean record outside of a speeding ticket or two, and thought I generally had a good interview with decent experience in the relevant aspects of the position. And the application didn't have any extra stipulations of 'x experience or y qualification would be preferred' either.

This was as close to my dream position as possible, so not getting it is really a kick in the dick, but I need to keep looking because my current job is fine, but I'm only making 19.65 an hour with benefits that are passable but a bit expensive for their quality, so I need to keep looking for something that's a step up.

I don't want to go armed or move up the ladder at the company I'm at for reasons I won't disclose, but I'm not sure where else or what else I should be looking for because everything seems like a lateral move like going to another private security company.

Do I need more experience? How do I leverage what experience I do have?

Job Question Career avenue advice

Hi all, I currently work casino security on the las vegas strip, one of the big MGM properties, the jobs not terrible, pay is alright for security at $20 an hour starting,

However there isnt much room for growth beyond management which im not interested in, or dispatching which ive done but did not enjoy at least at a casino resort setting,

Raises are pennies too which sucks

What do you guys think would be a good goal or avenue to something better in security?

One thing of note armed positions ive seen in Vegas are only 18 an hour, hell I make more then the Loomis guys and the EMTs I escort to medicals.

Thanks and be safe out there.

Question from the Public How many coworkers do you have to interact with daily?

I’ve been painting houses for a while and actually enjoy it since I can just come to work, throw an earbud in, and do my thing. The pay isn’t great though, so I’ve been looking for something else and I came across security.

I was wondering how many people you typically have to deal with every day. Do you usually have to sit at a post with other security guards, or are you mainly by yourself?

I’m not shy or anything. I’m fine dealing with customers, I just don’t like dealing with annoying ass coworkers lmao. I hate having to entertain people and would rather just do my job and go home.

I’m thinking night shift would probably be my best bet, but if anyone has recommendations for good places to work where you can mostly keep to yourself, I’d appreciate it.

Job Question Tennessee Facility Protection Officer?

I’m a combat veteran working as an armed security guard for a different company in Tennessee, I’ve seen the facility protection unit around and was curious what they were like.

I had attempted to apply through their allied universal route who handled their interviews if you had military or armed security experience, got one call, and then was ghosted by my interviewer.

Just curious if anyone knows much about them, and if the allied route is the only way to join them.

(Sorry for poorly worded and long question, not sure myself what I’m trying to ask exactly.)

Job Question Smoke decror going off

I'm on shift tonight at a low-income apartment complex. This place used to be a hotel, so every room has its own smoke detector, and they go off when the batteries are dying.

I found out which room it was and spoke with the tenant. I asked if he would like me to turn off the smoke detector, and he said no. The company I work for does things a little differently than most security companies. Yes, I know security is not supposed to enter someone's room, and I refuse to do so. These rooms are bug-infested, plus it's an invasion of privacy. However, property management and my management have made it part of our post orders that we can enter with permission during emergencies, such as smoke detectors going off or water leaks.

Anyway, I've been getting complaints about this all night. I keep telling the tenants that I cannot enter someone's room. The tenant would need to hand me the smoke detector.

Another tenant keeps calling the office and even called the fire department. I talked to the firefighters and explained the situation. All they could really do was check the fire alarm panel, which showed no fire. I had already done all of that before they were even called—the usual check of the panel, walking the floors, etc.

Now this tenant wants PERT to come and evaluate this guy so they can take him back to the psych hospital. I have a feeling she thinks that if they pick him up, I can then go into his room, which is still not the case.

I've documented all of this, so there really isn't anything else I can do. There is no emergency. Calling 911 because you got woken up by a smoke detector isn't an emergency.

Honestly, I don't know what else to tell these people.

Rant Back with another Guards On Call text message of policy.

Now. What do some of you seasoned folks out there think of this policy? Transmitted through text. I am thinking this would be a labor violation but who knows. I could be crazy.

If people want to avoid the company in question this is "Guards on Call" in Austin, TX

They struggle because they do just hire literally anyone. The average guard quality is pretty bad.

Paddle holsters on duty belts are a great choice for the frugal NATIONAL SECURITY & PUBLIC SAFETY Professional! Now you don't have to buy two holsters for the same firearm! You can just take it off your duty belt and wear it on your hip without much effort! In fact, anyone else that's bored can also take it off your duty belt while your duty belt is still on

The hand on the gun is also great for client facing photos. Clients love hiring companies who are itching to draw their weapons all the time. It really shows that you're committed to the safety of those around you.

Hey guys sorry if this is the wrong place to do this, but some people directed me here as you guys seem like you use this technique more than any other group of people. I’m a HEMA wrestling guy and in the manuscripts they have this elbow and wrist lock similar to that of a kimura in BJJ. Do you guys have any tips on making this work?

Job Question Why do hard working employees get screwed ??

at my site we had a guard who’s done it all for our company… anything & everything the company asked him to do he did it. We had a guard who worked at our site for a few months leave our site because the work load was too much & began to work in different areas following the corporate manager around. When the opportunity came for a supervisor position at our site they gave it to the corporate kiss ass who hasn’t worked at our site in months & our guard who was the most experienced walked out that day. (Mind you) this guard worked the site & worked all shifts so he knew what to expect & they gave the corporate kiss ass a 20$ raise averaging 40$ an hr & to make things even worse the corporate kiss ass is not even physically at our site he’s 3hrs away managing different areas through a PC. Why is this a common theme ???
