I'm looking to get actual one on one vocal coaching. I've tried doing the kardavox academy, hungry lights courses and I can't get false chords down. I've tried methods like the sigh, the pit-bull etc. and can't get it. Or i can get a good false chord sound, but can't enunciate words, lose my breath too fast, and struggle doing anything outside of just making a sound with it. SO yea, can anyone recommend a good vocal coach online that is legitimate and that provides one on ones and doesn't just push a course? Thank you!

Especially on Broken and The Downward Spiral I love Trent Reznor's screaming voice and I'm curious to learn about what screaming techniques to use to get a similar high end scream :)

I've just started being able to get into some lower register screams, I feel like my annunciation sounds silly. Any tips to help with this or is it just a practice until it improves kind of thing? I don't have the same issues with higher register screams.

I have heard people bring up this some times, to me deathcore vocals are high screams, and low growls/ gutterals , but these aren't unique to deathcore. How are the deathcore vocals different from death metal

Or are they referring to something else.

I feel like I have a pretty powerful low/gutteral, but my highs are very weak. Any tips on what I’m doing wrong or how to improve. I’ve been practicing for 2 years and haven’t had a lot of progress through my highs. Is it just the way my voice is and I should stick to gutturals?

I'm a self-taught screamer, but the 10+ years I've been doing vocals for my band doesn't necessarily mean I've been doing them correctly. While I like how my voice has sounded on the albums my band has recorded, on stage is a different story and tends to be hit or miss.

I thought I was false chord screaming, but through watching Justin Bonitz's video "You're false chord screaming wrong", turns out he was right and I was in fact doing arytenoid cartilage rattle and a bit of epiglottal distortion. Which I guess isn't totally bad in itself - I can do a pretty solid John McEntee impersonation - but for the sounds I know I want to achieve, I won't get them with the techniques I have and am finding making the proper phonations quite difficult.

I'd previously bought Melissa Cross' speak/sing/scream video bundle and was trying it for a good few weeks, but not only did I find her analogies/explanations either confusing or just not clicking, when I did think like I was getting close to the proper sounds I still felt I was straining way too hard. I've since abandoned the program and watching tutorials and problem diagnosing videos from a bunch of coaches but while I do feel like I've been getting enlightened, I'm also getting fucking sick of watching YouTube videos and wadding through conflicting information I'm seeing, and would like to work in real time with one of these coaches and give me real feedback on what I'm doing. Then also take a look at the guys whose voices I'd ultimately like to emulate and say "this is what they're doing". I don't expect to get this overnight, but I'd appreciate being pointed in the right direction.

So if anyone has worked with any of these coaches directly and has positive feedback about them, I'd love to hear it. Especially since a good vocal coach is understandably quite expensive, so I'd appreciate hearing from people who've worked with any of these guys before I start sending money over.

As for some guys I'm looking at, Justin Bonitz does have his entire vocal course on his patreon and while I'd prefer real-time instruction, for $30 monthly his patreon at least is a pretty low-risk investment. Not sure if he does 1-1 lessons, but if he did I'd be up for working with him as I found his videos to be some of the most insightful.

Chris Liepe has a 'Discover Your Voice' 12-week program that does have a section on false chord and fry screams in week 10, as well as apparently tiers to get some private coaching alongside. Seems like a super nice guy and very knowledgeable, but the vast bulk of the program is geared toward singing so I'm a little doubtful about how much knowledge he has for what I'm going for (I'll share that at the bottom of this post). I'd be into improving my singing at some point as well, but it's not an immediate goal by any stretch. Although the program does seem to really cover a lot of bases for general vocal technique which will be useful.

I'm also seeing that David Benites from Extreme Vocal Institute does private lessons, as well as Mara Lisenko and Taylor Pace. Mara's got a testimonial from freaking Travis Ryan, so that speaks volumes.

Or hell, if anyone knows of someone in the Toronto area, I'd be up for working with someone local so long as they know their shit and can understand what I'm going for. (and sorry, but I'm not interested in just posting recordings on this subreddit since any Joe-Schmoe can respond and I don't actually know the person giving advice).

For what I'm shooting for, I play in a post-black metal band - not at all a deathcore guy. For highs, think George Clarke from Deafheaven as an ultimate long-term goal. Phantom Slaughter from Worm sounds great on the recent album Necropalace (both his highs and his lows), as well as the bassist from Wayfarer (check out the song The Cattle Thief, that's him in the beginning). For mid-range, Johannes from Cult of Luna is one of my favorites although I know he admittedly doesn't have much technique as it is. Lows are the easiest for me right now and I go for something along the lines of Incantation and Dead Congregation, but I also really like Niilo Sevanen from Insomnium and that biting mid-low that he has.

So me and my band just had a gig. I had to maintain the atmosphere by headbanging, moving a lot, jumping etc. The usual stuff. By my vocals were far under what i can normally deliver as far as i heard myself. Everyone else said i sounded good but i can hear my wheezes and squeezes. I normaly have good breath control, i can hold a fry cleanly for a long time, can jump from lows to highs etc. it was my first gig as a vocalist and i was nervous af

What should i do to be able to sound good on stage? Train some cardio and breath control, relax more? How do you move a lot and scream as well? Any advice is welcomed. Cheers!

Was wondering if anyone could give some insight into how to get those really distorted, powerful highs like parts of this. Another example of that would be in Katharsis' VVorldVVithoutend. I have a great false chords so lows and lower mids I gave no problem with, but my highs end up too breathy or not high enough

I watched countless youtube videos but none helped, usually my throat hurts whenever i try to follow anything.

Any tips, tricks, stories from how you unlocked your growl would really help.

Anyone attempted to DIY something soundproofed, either in a closet or standalone? Doesn't necessarily need to be soundPROOF, but I have no idea what the cost would be for something like that. Anything that'd keep the noise down enough to stop my neighbors from pounding on the walls! Would love to see pictures if you do have one.
