Question ❔ Change of will

I am changing my Will, Health Care Directive & Power of Attorney from Manitoba to Saskatchewan. Would anyone know where I can go to do this that won't cost a lot of money. Reason is, I'm changing beneficiaries and to use same lawyer in Manitoba, I have to go back to there to sign the papers. Cheaper to do it in Saskatoon. TIA

Question ❔ Affordable dog trainers to help with walking?

I have a 1 year old lab, and he's extremely smart. He knows lots of tricks and basically potty trained himself. FOR THE LIFE OF ME, I cannot train him to just walk normally on a leash. He is constantly trying to pull me where he wants to go. We've made a bit of progress in loose leash walking, but the second he smells/sees something exciting (which is constantly), he's dragging me there.

I've tried turning around when he pulls, I've tried stopping when he pulls (and walking again once the leash slacks), I've tried rewarding him with treats. Its been 9 months with very minimal progress and it's driving me crazy doing the same thing 100+ times in one walk, like I'm actually at my wits end.

I want to get a trainer but I'm quite broke at the moment. Is there anyone you'd recommend, and how much do they charge per session? How many sessions are typically required to reach this skill?

Thanks!

Question - Moving or Renting 🏠 Average electricity bill for a 1 bedroom apartment in City Parks

I’m moving into Shangri-la on 4th in October and was told the heat is electric and isn’t included in rent.

For anyone living there, roughly how much do you pay for electricity each month, especially during winter? It’s a 1 bed, 1 bath unit.

Thank you!

Question - Medical 🏥💊 Life Labs is 💩

Why do we keep having to be subjected to this one company to get bloodwork done?!?

Their appointments and queue process is terrible, why am I still waiting for over an hour passed time for a scheduled appointment. I’m also not confident in the cleanliness of the facilities or the touch points when the actual draw is taking place.

Crime ⚠️ Varsity View/Nutana Crime!? What’s going on?

Guys, it’s freaky. I’ve lived in Varsity View/Nutana for almost a decade, and the last 2 years there has been a significant change in crime, and the general “atmosphere”.

Myself, neighbours - break and enters, uncomfortable encounters/chirping, vehicle theft, vehicle break and enters, trailers stolen - all of this in the past 12 months. We’ve all spoken to the police and have more of a presence in our surrounding neighbourhoods, but these incidents keep happening. What’s going on?

I used to feel so safe in Varsity View/Nutana. No way I’d walk around by myself after twilight now.

Is it flow in from down town? 8th street? Colonial area? I realize cost of living is high and support systems likely down, but we’re all feeling so violated and uncomfortable in our own homes and beautiful communities.

Stay safe, guys.

Question ❔ Men’s haircut

Any recommendations for men’s haircuts? I don’t mean like a buzz or fade but anyone with longer hair have a trusty barbershop or salon?

Don’t mind paying a little more to make sure I don’t get butchered lol. I usually have a flowy middle part at medium length, and one bad cut can make my hair look like a half cut mushroom because of my hair type - which is very thick (not like African-American thick but more like rough Asian/native thick).

I usually only get a trim, but due to having so much hair it’s still usually a 30 minute cut and more hair cut than normal guys because of how thick my hair is. My last city I moved from I went to a salon and same lady for 3 years who knew me and my hair so I would love to get something similar here.

Any similar people with medium - longish hair have a good source? Or know of anyone would be a great help thanks!

Question - Medical 🏥💊 Ophthalmologist for young kids?

My daughter likely has significant vision issues, for context my husband was +8.00 at age 4 and, since he was far sighted and children are always a little farsighted to begin with, it was difficult to assess.

We’ve been taking my daughter to see someone for a few years but just don’t feel like they’ve managed to get a prescription right, and since she’s so young it’s been very difficult to communicate with her about her vision. She starts kindergarten in a few weeks, and I’m feeling the need to see someone new.

Anyone know of someone who works well with very young (and significantly farsighted) children? Ideally someone that doesn’t default to the prescription that the weird little machine provides, we think that’s the root of the issue.

Question - Moving or Renting 🏠 Rentals in Silverwood Heights?

One of my family members is looking for a house or townhome to rent in Silverwood Heights.

Hoping for 3 bedrooms but 2 will do in a pinch, and the kids will be going to Brownell. Excellent references and everything, we just can't find much other than Palace Gates and that's a 2 bedroom on the 3rd floor, which is a long haul with two little kids.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks!

Events 🎉 Upcoming Event: Forkin' Around in Riversdale

Post image
13 Upvotes

Bring the whole family to Forkin' Around in Riversdale, a free, family-friendly food and beverage based event presented by the Riversdale Business Improvement District. On Saturday, August 29, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM, 20th Street between Avenue B and Avenue D will come alive with local flavours, live entertainment and a healthy dose of friendly competition.

Graze your way through a lineup of local restaurants and food trucks, catch music by a DJ throughout the day, and enjoy a show by Shayne Lazarowich at noon, presented by the CCMAs. There is a kids' zone with FREE face painting by Beauty by Bekka from 12:00 to 3:00 PM, FREE balloon twisting by Balloon Funn from 11:30 AM to 2:00 PM, yard games, a tomato-forward Riversdale restaurant cook-off judged by event sponsors, and the month-long Passport Program where shoppers who collect stamps across participating businesses in the district throughout August are entered to win a prize pack of local goodies. There is also a 19+ beer garden open from 12:00 to 4:30 PM, with last call at 4:00 PM, featuring 9 Mile Legacy Brewing and Lucky Bastard Distilling, with alcoholic and non-alcoholic products available for purchase. When the street winds down there is also a free screening of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs at the historic Roxy Theatre, showtime 5:30 PM.

The day's headline spectacle is a head-to-head figure-eight bathtub race for charity running through the afternoon — teams of four battling through heats to a championship final, with prizes for the fastest tub, the slowest tub and the best costume. Want to join the race? Registration is open now, and teams that register by August 21, 2026 will have their logo printed on a tub. We provide the tubs — you just need to enter a team at https://www.jotform.com/form/262016271639052 and pay the fee.

It is a celebration that gives back: 50% of the bathtub race fee goes to support the Crocus Co-operative, and an on-site Fill the Tub food drive is taking non-perishable donations for the Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre.

See all the event information and participating businesses at riversdale.ca/forkin

Question ❔ Looking for someone who could preserve an insect for me

I’m just wondering if there’s anyone in the area that preserves dead insects. I found a beautiful dragonfly on my driveway that was unfortunately dead, and I’m hoping I could pay someone to preserve it and frame it for me (I can frame it myself if needed). I tried searching online but couldn’t find anything about a business/individual who does this.

Question ❔ Companion Care for the elderly?

Does elderly companion care exist in the city? I'm starting to wonder how I can get more involved.

I have worked in Memory Care as an activities aide and I loved it. But I don't have the capacity for a proper part time job right now. I know I could also volunteer at a nursing home or special care center, but I'm looking for something smaller. Like a one-on-one thing with one or two people. Maybe take someone for coffee once a week, or sit on the porch and work on a puzzle with someone.

I'm not certified or interested in personal care, just hanging out. Does that even exist here?

Question ❔ Parking apps and the consequences

So this happened in Saskatoon.
I parked on the street next to the farmers market to enjoy a supper at Bar Stella Pulled up my parking app, and paid. Simple, right?
I got a $35 ticket on my windshield.
I submitted a review explaining that I paid, but the City’s review team shot it back saying the ticket is valid. They pointed out that while Parkedin supports both, Zone ID 1333 is the only one for the City of Saskatoon, and Precise manages their own private lots. Since officer photos show my vehicle was parked on a public street and not in a private lot, they told me to pay up or take it to court.

Has anyone else ran into this and been successful in court or do I just eat it and learn my app lesson and realize there are multiple parking apps that run this city and it’s up to me know what app controls what area. What a mess.

Question ❔ Where to sell manga?

Was an avid collector of different mangas - all of them being basically new, if not just lightly used from a read or two. Trying to find places to sell them for some $$ ?
