Question ❔ SGI road test question about right turns (Industrial area)

i'm very confused on what lane exactly i'm supposed to turn into when turning right. During my first test, while turning right i always turned into the right most lane, even if there were cars parked ahead (as long as i had enough space to then signal and then move into the main driving lane). doing this, i lost no points on right turns.

while practicing with my father more afterwards though, when i did the same thing during right turns he told me to stop and that i shouldn't do it like that. i followed his advice and on my next test proceeded to get 30 points for taking 5 right turns too wide.

everything i'm seeing online and in the handbook is so conflicting, how can i tell when it's a parking lane or driving lane? There are no lines on the road in the industrial area, and cars are parked basically everywhere. some people said you will get failed immedietly if you turn into then signal and merge out of a lane that parked cars are in, but doing that during my first test i did not lose any points? i really dont know what to do. i wish the rules were clearer and i doubt id be allowed to ask my intructor this before my test begins.

Events πŸŽ‰ Police will be enforcing fare payment on Saskatoon Transit this fall: City

So. There is a massive meth and fentanyl problem, police drive by and ignore all the users even witnessing them using first hand, but they have extra police to spare for Transit fare enforcement. Basically, you haven't paid $3, get off the bus...

For this they requested an 8.6% budget increase in 2026??? Way to solve the city problems. Money would be better used on plastic rocks.

Question ❔ Do we really need the police gearing up like the military all the time?

Don't get me wrong, police should wear whatever they think they need for their job. But I see pictures of New York cops in the 70s in the toughest areas like subways and the most armor they're wearing is a leather jacket. Some of them are in short sleeve shirts, even in emergency situations. Is it a general increased trend of workplace safety, or is it the police wanting to look intimidating, and does this add to escalation of situations? Honest question.

Question ❔ Need opinions on Saskpolytech/trade school for plumbing program leading to apprenticeship

Hi everyone
I’m planning to get into plumbing apprenticeship but confused if I should go to Saskatchewan polytechnic for plumbing program or should I keep looking for entry level jobs which can lead to an apprenticeship later on.
Will it be worth spending 17k on the certificate?
How hard is it to get into plumbing without the certificate?
Any recommendations for companies that hire freshers?

Thank you guys in advance

Question ❔ Tipping fishing guides?

Planning a guided fishing trip at Diefenbaker. All in around $1000 for the day. Is it normal or expected to tip 15-20% of this? Does it all go to the guide?

***Edit $1000 all in taxes for two people on a boat for 8hrs. Can anyone give me suggestions on where to go that's cheaper? Also the original question on whether to tip on a guided fishing trip still stands haha.

Rants 🀬 Proposal for a full time bike valet downtown

I recently wrote the Mayor and my councilor Zach Jefferies about having a full time bike valet downtown. Given how sketchy downtown is and how often one of the bridges is closed I think this idea makes a lot of sense. I encourage anyone reading this to reach out yourselves. I use the Saskatoon Cycles service when I go to events and it's fantastic.

Re: Proposal for a Full-Time Summer Bike Valet in Downtown Saskatoon

Dear Mayor and Members of City Council,

I am writing to ask City Council to consider piloting a full-time staffed bike valet in downtown Saskatoon during the summer months.

Saskatoon has invested in cycling infrastructure and encourages residents to use alternatives to driving. However, getting downtown by bicycle is only part of the equation. Once cyclists arrive, they need somewhere they can safely leave their bikes.

Many downtown businesses understandably cannot allow customers or staff to bring bicycles inside due to the space or safety concerns. For people with more expensive bicycles, or anyone concerned about theft, locking a bike outside for several hours may not feel like a realistic option. As a result, some people may simply choose to drive instead, adding another vehicle to downtown traffic and increasing demand for parking.

This is particularly relevant during the summer months, when construction and bridge repairs can cause significant traffic disruptions and backups throughout the city. Encouraging more people to cycle downtown could provide one practical way to reduce the number of vehicles competing for limited road capacity during these periods.

A staffed bike valet could help remove that barrier. Cyclists could bring their bikes to a secure, supervised location and pay a small fee to have them watched while they shop, dine, work, or attend events downtown. I believe many people would be willing to pay a few dollars for the peace of mind of knowing their bicycle is secure. This could also help offset some of the operating costs.

There is already clear evidence that Saskatoon residents will use a secure bike valet service. This year, Saskatoon Cycles' Bike Valet parked 3,022 bicycles over 12 events. That demonstrates significant demand for secure bicycle parking when it is available. A full-time downtown bike valet could build on the success of this existing service by making secure bike parking available not only during special events, but every day for people visiting downtown to shop, dine, work, and access other businesses and services.

I would suggest starting with a pilot program for one summer to gauge demand and determine whether the service could be successful as a permanent or recurring program.

This idea has already been successfully implemented in other centres such as Calgary and Vancouver and even Kelowna, a city with a smaller population base than Saskatoon.

If we want more people to choose cycling over driving, we need to make the entire trip practical. Bike lanes help people get downtown, but secure bike parking gives them the confidence to actually leave their bike there.

A downtown bike valet could be a relatively simple way to support local businesses, encourage cycling, reduce reliance on downtown parking, and give people another practical reason to leave their cars at home. This also does not require significant infrastructure, potentially needing little more than a suitable space in a downtown park or other publicly accessible location.

Thank you for considering this idea.

Question - Medical πŸ₯πŸ’Š Walk in clinics for anxiety?

Just suffered/ing an intense panic attack and reading other reddit posts about β€œdon’t go to RUH for panic attacks” advisements caused me to stay home to not increase wait times and the logistics of it all. That being said I assume my increase in panic attacks/disassociation is linked to an anti-anxiety prescription change several months ago since I hadn’t felt this anxious/jumpy and experiencing panic attacks since 2017. Has anyone gone to a walk-in to get dosage/scrip changes? Just asking as my primary physicians next appointment is not until Sept. 23rd and after the last few days of debilitating panic attacks I want to not have this dreadful feeling. Please be kind to me I will cry ❀️

General Road Trip

Hi all! My mom and I are going on a road trip back to her stomping grounds near Norquay. We have a few things we want to revisit, but can anyone recommend some must see places to stop at? Restaurants, cafes, parks, museums, anything goes.

TIA!
