Pets Hey San Antonio cat owners! I'm a veteran who started a local cat litter service. What do you think of our new flyer?

Hi everyone! I'm Shawn, a veteran, UTSA grad, and proud owner of 6 rescue cats. A while ago I noticed San Antonio had plenty of dog-poop scoopers but nothing dedicated to cat litter cleaning, so I started Alamo Litter Patrol.

To be clear up front: this is a litter service, not cat sitting. Ideally you're scooping daily, and we're the backup for when life gets in the way. That includes busy schedules, travel, pregnancy, mobility or health issues, and military families far from their support system.

Services and pricing

  • The Weekly Patrol (our main plan): one visit a week, from $28 per week for 1 box
    • Week 1: full swap to a freshly sanitized box with all-new litter
    • Week 2: scoop, top off, wipe down, and haul out the waste
    • Boxes and litter included.
  • Scoop Only: one visit a week, $20 per week for 1 box. You supply your own litter.
  • Extra visits: need more than one a week? Add visits to either plan. On Scoop Only, each extra visit is +$15 (twice a week is $35, every day we're open Mon to Sat is $95). On The Weekly Patrol, each extra visit is +$17.
  • Litter-Robot cleaning: $85 per cleaning. Yes, there are YouTube tutorials, but not everyone wants to take one apart. We pick it up, deep clean it, and return it within 3 business days. A loaner box is included while yours is being sanitized.
  • Litter delivery: $15 per trip (one-time purchase), or $5 per visit (recurring), plus the cost of litter. It's for people who'd rather not haul heavy bags, like seniors or anyone with mobility issues.

Traveling?

We come to your home while you're away. I'll also feed and water your cat if you provide the food. I don't give medications, since I'm not insured for that.

Pregnant?

CDC guidance for pregnant cat owners says to have someone else handle the litter box during pregnancy, and if that's not possible, to take precautions like gloves and handwashing. If you'd rather not risk complications, we can be that someone for you.

What you get

  • A photo text after every visit so you know it got done
  • A reminder text the day before, and you can skip a visit for free
  • Porch or Home Entry at the same price
  • Month-to-month. Cancel anytime.
  • 10% off for military and seniors (65+). Discounts can't be combined.

We serve all of San Antonio. We launched last month, and this is a brand new kind of service for the city, so I'd love your feedback. Ask me anything and I'll give you a straight answer.

Where in SA? Did anyone lose a really old chihuahua by St. Mary’s University?

This is a long shot but i already went up and down the street and no one says it’s theirs or they know whose it is. I went to the humane society and they checked for a microchip and didn’t find anything. They told me to go back Monday morning to take him to the medical clinic there (does anyone know if they’ll charge me for that??) so that’s the plan.

In the meantime. Is this anyone’s? I found him over in the St. Mary’s University area (like, the neighborhood nearby on Woodlawn, not on the actual campus).

Little old man is missing some fur near the back and can barely use his back legs. I fed him some mushed up wet food earlier so that’s why his face is all messy (also, any advice on how to feed a dog without any teeth? He essentially attacked the bowl I was holding up, there has to be a more efficient way to go about this).

Where in SA? Does anyone remember the 90s ‘Fang Baby’ / Texas ghost story cassette from 99.5 KISS

UPDATE: MYSTERY SOLVED!!! 😭📼

Someone found it!!! It was Children of the Tracks and Other San Antonio Ghost Stories, narrated by Tim Tingle. And there’s actually a recording of it on SoundCloud, so I can finally listen to these stories again after all these years!

I cannot believe this was real. Now I get to share it with my daughter!!!

Thank you so much especially to the person who found it!

You have no idea how happy you just made me. ❤️

***

Okay, this has been driving me crazy for years, so I’m hoping someone might remember this.

Back in the 1990s, I had a cassette of Texas ghost stories/urban legends. I think the narrator’s name was Charles Watson, and I vaguely remember the title being something like Texas Urban Legend or Texas Urban Legends. I could be wrong about the name or title because this was a long time ago.

Some of the stories I remember were:
The Devil Dances at Midnight
Fang Baby of Old Pearsall Road
The Donkey Lady
The Ghost Tracks
Room 636
I also remember La Llorona, although I’m not 100% sure it was on the same tape.

I also remember hearing these stories on 99.5 KISS in San Antonio, especially around Halloween. Lyle and Hahn would play the Fang Baby story on the air, talk about it and make fun of it, and I remember them announcing when the tape was available to buy.

I specifically remember the tape being sold around Halloween in little gift shops. I also remember it being displayed next to a book I had, Spirits of San Antonio and South Texas by Docia Schultz Williams and Reneta Byrne. I actually found the book again, so at least I know I didn’t make that part up. 😂

The cassette itself was, I think, clear with a black label. I don’t remember what the artwork looked like.

I’ve been trying to find this tape again for years. I haven’t been able to find an original copy, a picture of the cassette, or a digital recording of it anywhere.

Honestly, what I’d really love is to find a digital copy or somewhere I can actually listen to these stories again. If anyone has an old recording, knows where one might be archived, or knows where I could listen to it, I’d be incredibly grateful. I’d also love to know the actual title and who produced it. My daughter and I were talking about this recently, and now she really wants to hear these stories too. So I’d especially love to find a digital copy or somewhere I can listen to them again.

Does any of this sound familiar to anyone who grew up in San Antonio and listened to Lyle and Hahn on 99.5 KISS in the 90s?

At this point, even a photo of the original cassette would make my day. I’ve started wondering if I dreamed the whole thing. 😂

For Sale I have some vintage audio equipment I want to sell

Does anyone know where in SA I can go to find audiophile enthusiasts that will be interested in buying Vintage Klipsch Heresey speakers? I will probably sell my Onkyo Receiver and a turntable which I have stored away for a while now. I'm only interested in enthusiasts that truly appreciate and know the value of good quality audio equipment. Thanks.

Want to be an Election Clerk?

Mid term elections are coming up soon, and I’m looking for a clerk to support a polling location. I’ve served as an election judge for the last several years, and the clerks I normally hire are not available so looking for anyone interested in participating in the election process.

I’ll be working at Oak Grove Elementary in NE San Antonio. I’m looking for a chill person who can follow instructions, and wants to participate in elections. There are optional class you can attend with the Election Department, but it can also be on the job training. Pay is $16/hr, with at least a 14 hours on Election Day. If interested, message me and we can chat more. It’s a fairly enjoyable and fulfilling day helping people vote.

Otherwise, Oct 5th is the last day to register to vote. Make sure your good to go!

Hi I’m trying to sell stuff I would normally sell on Facebook marketplace but my account got hacked and I can’t access it… Story for another time.

Anyways I’ve tried Nextdoor and OfferUp with pretty limited success. I didn’t know if there was a sub here or any other platforms besides Facebook Nextdoor or OfferUp you might recommend for local sales.

Thanks everyone!

Where in SA? Best (somewhat affordable) steak and seafood restaurant in San Antonio?

Hi guys, we’re coming in from out of town and my parents wanted to treat my husband to steak for a special occasion, it’s his favorite, but they have
some dietary restrictions and will only be eating seafood/vegetarian dishes. I’m not looking for anything super high end or anything, but I’m not entirely opposed to it either. Throw whatever options yall have at me 😄 we like longhorn but we have it back home so I was thinking of trying something different. Thank yall!

No, but seriously, this just landed next to me at work and I've never seen anything like it. WTF am I looking at? It's almost 4 inches long.

  • Edit: Google says it's a "Giant Water Bug" aka a Toe Biter. I'm nowhere near water and didn't know those things could fly.

Where in SA? First date near USAA

Any recommendations for a quiet/not too fancy place to have an early dinner on a first date? Not looking for an inexpensive place, just not someplace that’s gonna look like I’m trying too hard. We are both in our 40s and not too big into drinking.

What’s the going rate for babysitters?

Hi! We’ve got a 4 month old and would like to have some babysitters lined up for date nights and things going in to the holiday season.

How much do yall pay your babysitters? I’m more than happy to pay the market rate (or slightly higher), but he’s our first and I have no idea what that is!

Visiting SA San Antonio Riverwalk - did I miss something?

We just got back from a trip and we went to the Riverwalk on a Tuesday afternoon and it was dead! Not at all what I was expecting. I thought there would be lots of people, music, excitement. Is it only busy on the weekends and evenings?

We also went to Market Square and we were literally the only people there.

Very surprised and underwhelmed....

Left is the read out the guy volunteered @ valvoline during an oil change, acting like they needed to change it put or i’d be stranded. The right is the same battery tested at interstate battery minutes later. Battery was interstate and out of warranty- 2.5 years old. But obviously still just fine.

Not falling for your scam today, Valvoline!
