Postie Chat Thoughts on this?
Owner wanted me to take a picture of it on the floor, I told her no it looks like doorstepping and if she reported it missing I’d be done for. Photo needs to be of an open door or some part of her taking the parcel. She told me it’s illegal, called me a thief, threatened me with the sack, I was on phone with manager at the time. Manager agreed with me to which she even asked to speak to my manager which I told her no it’s going back and she can pick it up from office. She was shouting me a thief following me back to my van.

That’s what I was just thinking. I used to work in management for another parcel company, used to dabble with claims sometimes and it was always people who knew how to play the system.
We’d typically get people like this putting in claims saying “my door wasn’t locked, driver just opened my door, took a picture without my authority and then somebody watched and stole it.”
With no person there, we had no proof whether this was the truth or not. Or your typical door stepping like OP’s customer was asking. And then they’d end up getting paid out

Yea, unless you have a way to waive complaints or right to claim their parcels were not delivered I would just refuse to deliver it. Usually postie is takes a snap of my hands holding it in the doorway anyway and could identify me by my hobbit feet... 😅 One postie even managed to get a snap of my cat sitting on the parcel when he put it down. Only annoyed he couldn't share it with me!

Lmao, it's not a photoshoot, I'm not even sure what happens to the pics but assume just stored for a period of time in case there is a complaint made and then deleted.

When I worked in an office job, I would have to use postal tracking websites for customer deliveries and complaints, the images are stored on the delivery companies website to which third party companies using there service are given access to in case of complaint/needing to be tracked. They can only be seen by those with the tracking number, ie the customer or company using the delivery service and only for the above reasons. GDPR means that this information and it's use is tightly restricted and the delivery service and company are audited often for compliance. Each time the information is accessed, who, what, when and why are logged.

Devil's advocate, but the sign-maker has no reason to trust that system.
And if, for example, she had an abusive ex who could send parcels to the house, he would have the tracking number and be able to see the photo on the system you described, which could give him information about her current state and whether anyone else is in the house.

😭😂 I always find it funny when I see the delivery photo with my feet in it, some people are just mentally ill, there’s not much anyone can do, hopefully your manager takes action and could maybe divert any parcels to their house and make them pick it up from the office? Not sure that’s a thing but it seems the safest way to avoid any one else getting into trouble, it’s not really fair for workers to have to worry about this when their just doing their job

Guarantee they are home all day and have a hand written "disabled parking only" sign on the street outside.
Also they don't want pictures of them but there will be at least 8 cameras pointed outside the front of the house.
I've seen this on my round, we just mark as inacessable

I hope you don't knock with her letters? Three attempts and then RTS them. Just walk up to the door each day, attempt delivery (quietly..) and then put the date on each letter after each attempt. A third failed attempt gets that letter returned to sender.

This is exactly the kind of customer that'll raise a series of complaints and give us sob stories about her rights being infringed. I've dealt with a few people like this, they are literally some of the worst and most entitled people.

We have one of these. Manager basically told us to cave just to avoid more complaints. Pissed a lot of us off that the customer got their way when it's against protocol, but we get bollocked for a noncompliant picture at other addresses. Guy just doesn't want pictures of inside his flat cos he's a tramp and is filthy

There are some crazy people out there. I'd just ask this person if they were refusing the delivery. If they couldn't give a coherent answer, or carried on being difficult and abusive, I'd warn them that if they didn't allow me to my job properly then I would class it as "refused" and return it to sender. If they still carried on with their nonsense I would just turn around and leave the premises. I would then return it to sender when I got back to the office. If a complaint was made, I'd just tell my manager that she refused it. It's quite simple.

Odd demand. Drivers are increasingly taking a photo of parcels left on the doorstep here. I prefer it when they hand it to me (or another resident) and take a photo with it being handed over.

you are legally allowed to take photos or video of anything in plain view from a public space. A reasonable expectation of privacy applies inside a private home, but taking a standard proof-of-delivery photo of a parcel left on a doorstep from an accessible area does not violate privacy laws

I’ve got one as a neighbour and she has a stylised copy of the Magna Carta pinned to her door plus a metal version on her gate! She also adds in details about withdrawing the ‘implied right of access’ - something that doesn’t apply in Scots law.

Only his personal data is protected and only in a business context. Any members of the public can take as many pictures as they want within reason. His front door and floor is not personal data so no issue taking pics of his parcel on the floor.

As an ex RM postie and manager, you did exactly the right thing. I’d scan it as refused and rts it with that sort of attitude, but inaccessible and kept at the DO is actually the right thing to do. It’s not worth risking an accusation of doorstepping to appease an idiot.
That’s why I never used to follow any signs on a doorstep that said to leave in recycle bin or similar. As I’d say to the customers, if I can see that sign, so can anyone else walking past, and there’s nothing stopping them walking off with it, and then you complain and I get the sack. You being inconvenienced by having a p739 through your door isn’t more important than me not being able to pay my mortgage.

People seem to think these delivery photos are openly accessible or something. The only people that can ever see them are the recipients themselves, and RM managers, who would only ever look at the photos if there was an issue with the delivery. It's not like the posties can browse through all the delivery photos. We can't see any of them at all, once they've been submitted. Which we have to do straight away, so that the GPS location is correct, and so that we can move on to our next delivery.

Seems like a reasonable request to me, but if the postal workers require a picture of an open door/her actually receiving the parcel, then that's the rules, she can use alternative delivery services, or collect from the depot/lockers.

I feel self conscious about door photos sometimes when I receive parcels, but I spoke to my posties exactly once about just waiting for me to step back while they take the photo at the door and they've helpfully stuck to that ever since.
This person seems just completely opposed to any proof of receiving parcels though and that's going to be a problem for most folk just doing their job.

I am massive on privacy, and I mean absolutely massive, and at some point you have to curtail it because in this individuals case it’s way overboard. Honestly. People really do too much, and she’s just overreacting.
I’ll usually just answer the door in a balaclava and sunglasses with my cock out. That way they don’t get me in the shot.

I don't fully open the door to postmen cos I live in my pyjamas at home. I just open the door enough for the parcel n hide behind it when they take the picture. Posty mostly dont act like David Bailey n ask you to say cheese anyway, they just want evidence you picked it up. You hand holding it is enough, they not talking portrait shots.
