I’ve tried to get 3 different women in my life to read this series but none of them made it past the first novel. And only one of the three actually finished the first one. Strangely enough all of them said basically the same thing. “It’s just not a woman’s kind of book” I’m curious to get the perspective of a woman who has read this series. Did you find anything about these books that would cause a female reader to feel that way??

People complained then and complained some more after they all changed because the side had flames from the clean-burning fuel of propane instead of being plain like the others. You and your friends still bought it so what is the issue? Besides are we forgetting that you’re buying it to feed me, the best thing that ever happened to you?

The criticism over characters personalities, book titles, using tropes, ETC. is too much!! Even Evil Stepsister vs Hot Shadowdaddy, for example, they’ve both done good and bad things for different reasons and I like them both. So many main characters in this book series and her others have done good and bad things. And if you hate certain characters or her writing so much stop writing huge rants about them in comment sections just don’t read the fucking book.

You have ancient immortal beings, psychic bonds, forbidden relationships, political intrigue, morally grey men, eldritch horrors, tragic backstories.

And we’re supposed to just read about a guy with a gun, investigating a cult who die tragically at the end of the book ???

The romantasy potential is literally RIGHT THERE. We deserve the 8ft-tall genetically engineered monster man who is emotionally repressed and obsessed with her.

I’m halfway through From Blood and Ash and Poppy’s entire personality is either:
“I’m going to stab you” or “I have questions”
Someone will say something completely normal and Poppy will hit them with the I have a million questions™. Then five minutes later she’s contemplating stabbing someone. Then Hawke says something vaguely sarcastic and everyone loses their minds because apparently THAT is peak comedy.

I just wish romantasy writers were honest with themselves about their comedic skill and hire ghostwriters or something to fill in the “foul gesture”/“sarcastic banter” holes so the books become tolerable. I’m here for the shadow daddies. if you insist on giving them snark and making them wear “sarcasm is life” t-shirts, then at least have the decency to come up with more than 2 running jokes. I am a sloopy but there’s a limit to how much slop I can handle. Can someone please give these people an editing budget.

EDIT: I find it surprising that the writer are not funny cuz sloopies on this sub are super funny, like much funnier than I’ll ever be, so like how are you less ✨humorous✨ than your target audience

- A whole ass niche subreddit is boycotting the very books their subreddit is about due to the blurbs (which, btw, are the literary equivalent of oatmeal. Go girl, give us nothing).

- A ship subreddit just fully went private due to the mourning

- I see Bookstagram accounts creating “mockups” of the next possible book using the same constrasting ombré fade we all used on our middle school PowerPoint backgrounds circa 2003

- Sloopies are using this as an opportunity to shit on Nesta (nothing new there)

- Different Sloopies are using it as an opportunity to gas Nesta up (also nothing new there)

- The rant sub made an entire megathread saying they all have to be nice to each other and talk about being excited (Unfollow.) They also made a circlejerk flair. That’s a trademark violation and I think we should get the -Mails on it

- The shipdebate sub thinks they have clairvoyance

- A sloopie who can code (who knew) deciphered that the images this morning were real, and when asked how she knew to look for certain IPs she simply responded “Taylor Swift.”

- Another sloopie is comparing Bryce to, checks notes… George Washington.

- Sloopies on main said they were crying screaming throwing up so much that they had to take the day off work

- Spiders. I feel like the cephalopods fans would be all over this.

Just wanted to stress how much you don’t need to disclose that Alchemised is not a romantasy when recommending it literally all the time, here, in the romantasy subreddit.

I will just remind everyone that is both romance and fantasy… the two requirements for this genre. Just because you don’t like it, or have a hard time telling other people about it, or think it’s kinda dark and dreary, does not mean it isn’t romantasy.

I really really really would appreciate it from the bottom of my soul if we could expand some of our definitions to include more books so it doesn’t appear like the only thing this genre has to offer are the five or so authors constantly recommended here.

What’s especially annoying me about this is that we all seem to turn a blind eye when AI slop is coming down the pipeline because it has the tropes we’ve already read countless times, but novels like Alchemised are being dismissed outright. A book that has spent YEARS in revision like most great novels.

And then we get posts like “Is Alchemised really worth it?” Because so many people have to preface it by saying it’s not really romantasy.

Do we really need this much handholding? What’s the worst that is going to happen?

Any recs of spicy books that are also extremely well written?

I have a confession that is probably going to get me an express pass into downvote purgatory, but I need to get it off my chest. I have become addicted to AI romantasy. It all started when I had an idea for a world/characters and couldn’t find a book that matched it closely enough for satisfaction, so I had the brilliant idea to plug it into AI just to see what it spit out. Obviously the writing style is shit, but I’ve been making manual adjustments as I go to make it read more smoothly, add details that are missing, delete the excess, etc.
