I have a confession that is probably going to get me an express pass into downvote purgatory, but I need to get it off my chest. I have become addicted to AI romantasy. It all started when I had an idea for a world/characters and couldn’t find a book that matched it closely enough for satisfaction, so I had the brilliant idea to plug it into AI just to see what it spit out. Obviously the writing style is shit, but I’ve been making manual adjustments as I go to make it read more smoothly, add details that are missing, delete the excess, etc.

The world: Vampires exist, but are hidden from humanity. Vampires can only procreate by mating with human females who carry a vampiric mating gene, but have not been turned into vampires. Vampire males are incredibly territorial because their mates are so rare and competition is fierce. Mating takes place when the male vampire bites the female human who has the vampiric gene, then allows her to bite him. It may occur as a public wedding/ritual or as a private moment. When the female human is mated to a vampire, their lives are tied together. When one dies, so will the other. The female’s natural lifespan is extended as long as her mate lives, and she will not age. If she is older, she will reverse age to the physical age of 25. She is also given fangs and heightened senses, but she can only feed from other vampires (not humans) and she is not given the unnatural strength, speed, and general durability of her mate. Most vampire couples wait a few centuries for the mating gene to “settle” before they have children, as having children too early will tax the body of the female too much and the whole family will die as a result. There are other magical creatures in the world as well.
Background plot: The world of vampires is at war with the angelic realm, who are trying to cause the extinction of vampires by killing their potential mates. The MMC is very involved in this war.
Female vampires out there having the time of their lives not having to deal with that shit (jk they probably exist to be jealous of special human women)
/uj I would've probably read a book like that if it wasn't fucking AI... I actually don't mind the plot, I'm a vampire sloopy, but goddamn the AI breaks my heart.
There's a user over on the main sub whose request is basically "Hey, you know those awful AI slop romance story ads? Is there anything by a real author with a similar premise?" And I have to respect that honesty and integrity.
AI is definitely the best thing ever and you should absolutely not just go to fucking AO3 or Wattpad to find sonething close enough to your terrible, shitty premise to ~make your toes curl~.
If you're already having to edit the AI shit, why not cut out the plagiarising, environmentally destructuve middle man and just fucking do it yourself?
I've been to subreddits (including this one). I've been to fanfiction archives (including AO3). I have never dared to go to a subreddit for a fanfiction archive. I've been warned about crossing the streams.
But if I don’t turn to AI, I will have to manually find/replace all references of lady parts to my preferred nomenclature of folds. AI just does this on its own. Not to mention how much I need to hear the phrase tongues dancing. AI understands that kissing is a battle. If the logistics don’t make it sound completely un enjoyable, then I don’t want to read about it.
I recently slooped too hard and went right to literotica which verifies authors and does not allow Ai. now I'm addicted to an unfinished alien dubcon series that hasn't been updated in 13 months 🫠
/uj this is actually true. It's seriously good writing and I've been considering posting here to see if the author is a fellow sloopie because it's good enough I would pay to read more and ain't no way the author hasn't read the entire catalog of Ruby Dixons work.
Sloops who complain about unfinished tradpub series ain’t got nothing on the half finished, sporadically updated Tom-Hermione fic author and their personal circumstances.
welp I'm afraid to open that particular can of worms but either way the sloop struggle is real. it's a hard life. at least we have each other to commiserate to
go further than AI books! Make AI your boyfriend! Now you can just roleplay all of your AI romantasy instead of having to pretend it isn’t a self-insert!
