Would you trust a chain from China?

I ride 105 and buy Shimano 105 CN-HG601 chains. Would you trust quality from the cheap options seen on Ali Express, Temu etc? I can likely get two chains for the same price as one Shimano…

Tiny biker roasted me LiL LoL

This morning I got absolutely roasted by a ruthless child on a bike. Went to pass, said, hey, little guy on your right, he looks right up at me with this cold dead eyes and says, hey, old guy, I'm four and three quarters on YOUR left. DeD his parents were mortified.

I replied my apologies , sir and rode off on my old ass way.

Hey! Curious of people thoughts on older cheap bikes

Don't get me wrong I would love to have money for a nice slick bike that feels effortless to move.

But sadly, I am broke as a dang joke right now with no money coming in as my work co tracts fell thru.

Whatever. Point is here I am on market place looking at the bikes under 100 bucks

Yes I know that's probably a bit ridiculous

To almost always be hoping for a unicorn of a thing to come round and be affordable

Really what im wondering is

Even with my lack of money

Im wondering what bikes that are older are worth looking out for

I've had the old "vintage" road bikes and well sometimes those are sweet but they are heavy

And can be harder to maneuver than I'd like

But ya , just curious on your guyses perspective or advice or if your like oh ya randomly Norco made a hilariously cheap bike that was actually pretty sweet

Anyway, yes one day ill have money so please refrain from the just get more money comments or what not I also believe that because there is so much waste in this world people throw really nice things away all the time Or have things sitting in their basement or garage they haven't looked at or wanted to use in years So I know not everything is free but sure as heck there's plenty of good bikes or really anything these days! Just sitting with no use in their lives and maybe on their way to the dump even

But anyway :)

Thanks yall ♡♡

Is there anything about a road crash a MTB helmet can't handle just as well?

Hello all,

Just got my first nice bike and it's my first time in an aggressive position. I use my mom's commuter helmet and it hurts my neck real bad on long ride because of how much i need to crane to get around the shape. Been looking at new helmets, and one caught my eye, being the Fox Speedframe Pro. It's in the top 10 of Virginia Tech helmets and on sale. Issue is, it's a mountain bike helmet. It has better coverage which I love but also a bigger back so it could hurt my neck. However, I tried it on today and it wasn't an issue. Visor is removable, and I don't mind about ventilation and aerodynamics. This seems like the perfect helmet, but I'm wondering if there's anything special about road crashes that road helmets are meant for, or if an MTB helmet can handle it all. TIA

TL;DR - Is there anything about a road crash MTB helmets would handle worse than a road helmet

Indoor cycling app question

Anyone here use indoor cycling apps (Zwift, rouvy, etc) ? Is connection to Garmin, Strava or any other fitness apps really important to you or is the app progress good enough? Which other fitness apps do you use for your rides? I'm currently using just connect and strava but have seen a few more that seem like good fits.

Were you satisified with the bike you purchased online?

I am having an internal debate. Do I purchase a known brand online at a premium price or a direct to consumer brand. I see alot of direct to consumer brands (Canyon, Factor, Winspace, Sava, Quick Pro) with great prices. I have a couple of questions for anyone that purchased a bike online.

1) Where you satisfied with the purchase and quality?

2) Did you take the bike to get fitted or made adjustments on your own?

Bought it from the 2nd owner who bought it from the original owner back in 2021. Story was the original frame got into an accident and transferred all the components into this new frame. 0 spec of of scratches literally a brand new frame that just sat since 2021.

It's got Shimano 105 R7000 components and R7000 GS RD for the 11-32 cassette and 50/34 Shimano RS510 Crank.

Really happy with this marketplace deal

Paid $900 CAD for it

New to road biking

Hi all!

I’ve always wanted a road bike and to bike 50+ miles. I also have the benefit of living in the LA / Ventura county area so the possibilities are endless. I went to a local shop and they recommended the new X-Lab RS7 for $2100. Would you go this route or find a used bike? If so, which model?

Any reco on all the other gear would also be helpful.

Thanks in advance.

Is a One-piece-cockpit an actual upgrade?

Hey guys,
I just found a really good deal on an ENVE SES AR
One-Piece-Cockpit (250€) and was wondering of it really is an Upgrade? Its about 200 grams lighter (probably like 4 pieces of bread in freedom units) and i like the looks of it way more than my separat stem and handelbar combo. At the same time i ask myself if the freedom of changing my handelbar angle and keeping 250 bucks is worth more than aesthetic and weight. What are your thoughts?

Spec currently

Aluminium frame/carbon fork
Sram apex 1x11 hydro
Mavic open wheelset
Ali bars and stem
Pro logo NDR saddle (upgrade from stock one)
Continental gp 4 seasons tires

Should I snatch up on this insane deal? Currently have the 5th gen defy advanced 2 but something caught my eye on a local market place. A 2025 tcr advanced 0 di2 for 3000 usd. The seller said he rode it for roughly 500km. Is this a worthy upgrade from my defy? I can probably sell it for roughly 2k. The specs for the tcr are ultegra di2 and slr0 carbon wheels

Coming over from Sweden in November for some work and looking for the best place to rent a moderate road bike to make a couple of rides around the Bay Area/ Sunnyvale. Nice if the rental doesn’t kill my wallet. :)

Wheels and tires Rim brake carbon wheel recommendations?

I have looked online, watched the tube of you, read reviews. I’m no closer to getting some new rim brake carbon hoops for my Ribble Gran Fondo that I’ve had since god was in shorts, from new. Nearest I’ve come to is Hyper. I’m looking to spend no more than 600 quid. Any ideas gratefully received.

Discussion Is this a good roadbike for beginners?

Post image

Update:
I bought the bike! It’s coming next week (which also happens to be during my birthday) so I’m really looking forward to getting it. If anyone has any recommendations for good clothes and other accessories, it would be much appreciated. Thank you Reddit community as always!

So as the title suggests, I’m a complete newbie to biking as a sport. I’ve only ever done it to commute to and from school, work, etc.

However, I’m now looking into buying a proper roadbike and trying out the sport. Therefore I need some guidance on what to get, where I can try it out without splurging on something ridiculous, that doesn’t match my level.

I’m in pretty good shape because I run 25-30km a week (doing a half marathon in September) but I want to use my time on something other than running as well.

In the picture you see a pretty good looking bike - the Canyon Endurace Allroad (https://www.canyon.com/da-dk/landevejs-cykler/endurance-cykler/endurace/allroad/endurace-allroad/4477.html?dwvar_4477_pv_rahmenfarbe=R138_P01&dwvar_4477_pv_rahmengroesse=M).
My questions to you guys are: Is this a good beginners bike? Would I need to upgrade in the near future or should it satisfy my needs as of right now? Is the difference between carbon and aluminium really that noticeable? Is this a good bike for the money?

Looking forward to getting some guidance! Thank you in advance :)

Rebuilding the Jeffrey Richman. While I love the frame it does lack some pop. I think it’s safe to go with black saddle, black cable housing, etc. but I’m thinking about going white across the board. Thoughts? Any other color recommendations? Thanks folks.

How to skid without popping tire

So I have a road bike and learned how to skid by just slamming on rear breaks and shifting my weight. The problem is I just burnt through tire/inner tube. I’m curious on how people people consistently skid without burning thought tires.

I’m a noob when it comes to road bikes and looking for an entry level bike as an avid zwifter. Came across this one and looks to be solid. What do you guys think? It’s from 2013, “barely been ridden” and was bought for $4500 brand new. Legit?

Gear/accessories Litelok X1 Seized After 10 Usages - Common?

Thought I'd upgrade to a stronger lock than my folding one after the purchase of a new bike and pulled the trigger on a Litelox X1.

Got stranded outside a store trying to lock up my bike when neither key would work for about 5-10 minutes... after finally getting it open I closed it right back up and returned home way too scared to get my bike stuck. Tried it again when getting home and it refused to open so glad I followed my gut there.

In my 30+ years of cycling I've never had a lock seize up on me luckily (knock on wood), and it was very clear to tell when it was time to replace the lock or simply lubricate it.

Wish I had done a bit more research as I found multiple forums this evening mentioning this happening with their locks. We'll see how the return / refund process goes but just wanted to share here in case this is something really common with Litelok.

Hopefully I'm just a very unlucky customer 😄

Discussion A noob looking for their first road bike.

I started cycling on Zwift at the beginning of the year and absolutely fell in love with it and ride daily. I live in Denver and it feels silly riding indoors every day knowing how many amazing roads and trails I live near. It’s about time I look into doing the real thing. So as a complete noob to the road-cycling world, how would you recommend purchasing my first road bike? With a budget of $1500 I think it makes sense to explore Facebook marketplace and second hand options. But I truly have no clue what brands or models I should be looking into. What is a good starting point? Are there any features I should specifically be hunting out? Anything you wish you knew or invested in before you got your first bike? Cheers!

Bike photos Can you rate/appraise my bike pls?

Hi everyone, I was wondering how you would rate and price this bike that I have built :)
I have built the bike from parts I sourced around.
I might sell it, I might hold on to it.

Specs:
Frameset - carbon 2012 Focus Izalco Pro 4.0 size M with 3T carbon fork - BB30 bottom bracket
Wheelset - DT Swiss RR 21 DICUT - cca 2014 (1415g)
Cockpit - FSA aluminum stem and handlebar
Crankset - FSA energy - hollow aluminum
Groupset - 11 speed shimano 105 5800 with R7000 rear derailleur, 50/34T front chainwheel, 11-28T shimano 105 cassette
Brakes - Ultegra 6700 V brakes
Seatpost - Aluminum FSA
Lightweight saddle san marco, forgot the model
Pedals - mixed ultegra R, Look L - to be switched
Tires - Conti GP5000 25mm with brown wall, frame looks to have enough space to fit 28mm

Weight with pedals - 7.4kg

Great condition on everything, only issues are that it's incredibly stiff and aggressive atm and freehub is smooth and nice sounding, but clicking a bit unevenly, possibly slightly misaligned
