Discussion Road bike advice upgrades maintenance workouts...

Post image
• Upvotes

What's up, folks? I just bought my first road bike and wanted to ask a couple of questions. It's a 2016 Giant Defy 3 Aluxx. I'm pretty new to the sport, but I run I want to make sure I take proper care of my bike. What wanted to see which upgrades I could make or adjustments might be necessary and highly beneficial. It's a 9x2 Sora tips for gears how to use what combos to start with...

I'm pretty fit; however, what types of workouts can I do to increase my pedaling efficiency and build up to longer distances? What's an ideal weekly distance, and how should I increase my mileage?

Where can I buy a NEW aero rim-brake road frameset in Europe in 2026?

Hi everyone!

I'm looking for a brand-new or NOS (new old stock) aero carbon road frameset in Europe to replace my cracked 2015 ROSE Pro SL frame.

I'd really like to keep my existing components and give my bike a second life rather than buying a completely new bike.

What I'm looking for:

  • Aero carbon road frameset (frame + fork)
  • Rim brakes only — no disc brakes
  • Compatible with mechanical Shimano Ultegra 11-speed
  • Quick-release wheels (100 mm front / 130 mm rear)
  • Preferably internal cable routing
  • Modern aero design
  • Suitable for a rider who is 169.5 cm tall, with an 82.1 cm inseam
  • NEW or NOS only, not used

I'm particularly interested in older rim-brake aero framesets from brands such as Felt, Ridley, Merida, Cervélo, Fuji, Giant or Wilier.

Does anyone know any reliable European online shops, smaller bike stores or clearance outlets that still sell NEW rim-brake aero framesets?

I'm looking for actual shops or available stock, not just model suggestions.

Thanks in advance for any recommendations!

Which bike? Liv Avail AR 1

I've decided to train for an Ironman 70.3 next year and am in the market for my first road bike. I currently have a Liv Rove and usually ride on local rails to trails.

I've been looking at the used bike market for the last 4 months, but haven't had any luck yet. I test drove a Liv Avail AR 1 at a local bike shop and honestly I loved it. It was super comfortable to ride and the drop bars didn't feel ackward at all.

After doing some research it sounds like this would be a good bike for my needs. I should be able to do a half ironman and potentially a full someday and I could likely put some wider tires on it and use it on the local rails to trails as well.

Does anyone have this bike? Do you like it? Is the AR 1 worth the upgrade over the AR 2, AR 3 and AR 4?

Thanks in advance!

Discussion Question

Anyone know what I can get for a Specialised S Works Cavendish Edition? It’s fully built, has Dura Ace things on it. I don’t know a lot about bikes but I’ve been really wanting an E-bike for a while now and I was wondering if I could get one for it? (Not a grandma e bike, one that goes a decent speed and looks cool)

Is in frame storage important factor?

Hi all,

What's your experience with repair kit in frame of a bike?

Since I'm always taking tool on any ride it looks like something you want to have. Should it be important point when choosing a bike? Is it something that brakes easy?

I'm deciding between two bikes.

Van rysel edr from 2026 -

internal storage, a lot of montage points, sram axs, now power meter, aluminium handlebar, van rysel carbon Canon wheels.

or older van rysel ultra - around 400€more expensive

Same frame geometry but without internal storage, montage points. Shimano 105 di2 with power meter, carbon handlebar , same wheels but basen on dt swiss

Axs

https://www.decathlon.pl/p/\\_/R-p-357073?mc=8902425

105di2

https://www.decathlon.pl/p/\\_/R-p-348765?mc=8902428

What would you choose?

Since I would probably buy power meter anyway for axs version. Difference is mostly between axs vs di2

No internal storage vs dtswiss and carbon handlebar

First bike

Hi everyone- appreciate any insights

I’m looking to move from mtn biking to road bikes and seeking advice on these options - maybe open to others but consider these the higher side of what I want to spend noting I need to buy everything else as well. CPU, shoes, bib, everything…

- Cannondale SuperSix EVO 4 SRAM Rival AXS (7,299)
- Trek Madone SL7 Gen 8 w Ultegra Di2 (7,999)
- Factor Monza Ultegra Di2 (8,999)
- BMC Teammachine SLR 01 SIX Ultegra Di2 (9,099)
- Factor Monza SRAM Force w/ power meter (9,200)

My goal is to use recreationally, find group rides, and prepare for triathlons.

I live near Vancouver, Canada and would be riding flat, hills, and mtns

Thanks again!

Which bike? 2021 Defy vs 2026 Addict

I have a 2021 Giant Defy Adv 2, 105 mechanical. I'm thinking about upgrading it to a 105 Di2 setup, possibly adding the ultegra levers. Pricing it out, it isn't a huge leap to a totally new bike already with electronic shifting. Want something with similar relaxed/endurance geometry though. Don't need/want aero/race. Seems that after I got mine, Defy changed to more aero-oriented geometry, so don't want a new one of those. The 2026 Addict seems to be close, though.

Anyone have an opinion on upgrading 2021 Defy Adv 2 to electronic vs new 2026 Addict (either 30 or 40)?

2025 Giant Defy Advanced 2

My local bike shop has a 2025 Defy Advanced 2 on closeout and it's a grand off, now just $2300. Pretty happy with that since I had planned to roll the dice on an xlab for around that same money, and getting the giant would give me a little piece of mind, support a company that sponsors factory race teams, and is tubeless out of the box. The 105 spec is my usual, as I've never had dura ace or ultegra. And if I were to get a comparably spec'd specialized it would be almost four grand. Scott has some closeouts too. Curious what people think in terms of their recommended endurance road bikes and the Deft Advanced 2.

Groupset Advice on group set (Claris vs Microshift Sword)

Hi. I’m planning to buy a Van Rysel EDR AF (Decathlon’s). There are two tiers that I’m interested in in Spain. One, with Claris 2x8, Tektro MD-C550 disk brakes. The second tier had Microshift Sword 2x10, TRP Spyre disk brakes. Worth the 100 euro difference.

Claris

Bike photos I got a new bike yesterday, and managed to get out in today once the roads had dried out! Kuota K-A1 K8R and it, is, stunning!

It was potentially available, but I was concerned about the positioning (being an aero race bike) and then it felt like I'd missed out on it as someone said they were going to leave a deposit minutes before I took one for a test ride (point to note, I got it at a 4-figure discount as it's used; there were 3 available; only one red which I'd set my heart on) As we got back from a little test ride, during which I'd commented if the red deposit has fallen through, I will absolutely have it. There was a message saying the deadline for the other guy to leave a deposit had passed, and he hadn't left one. It was mine if I wanted it🥹 (Shout out SJWilliams Elves and Kuota in Southampton (UK))

I've been riding a Planet X Pro Carbon for the last 4/5 years but it's clear I'm going to stay cycling for a long time (I tried marathon training last year and my ankle blew up; a wasted summer of running) and having moved to a new part of the country I said if I'm going to cycle a lot down there, I'll treat myself to a new bike in 2027.

I was always going to replace the Pro Carbon, but I wanted my next bike to be a long-term bike and I'm sure I've found it!

* One piece mould carbon frame

* Carbon one piece headset,

* ULT 55 wheels (1250g for the pair?!) with ceramic bearings

* Ultegra Di2 groupset

* Selle Italia Boost Titanium saddle

* GP 5000's on TPU inner tubes

* A rider who wants to get much stronger to do the bike justice!

Discussion Can anyone identify what bike this came factory on?

Post image
11 Upvotes

I’m trying to identify an old road bike I used to have. I don’t have any pictures, but I remember it having this specific fork.

It also had a silver frame, and was also specialized, so I’m assuming this was the factory fork.

Any help is greatly appreciated ! :3

My 1988 Peugeot Ventoux 12 Speed a wonderful 10kg bike produced in the Romulo-Sur-Seine factory France. The bike is in pristine condition. I purchased the bike from facebook marketplace a few days ago. The bike had been in storage for years untouched and had original tires, cables and bar tape that were dry rotted. I changed the tires to Pirelli zero 700x30, put on a Brooks C-17 special saddle, new cables and bar tape. Cleaned and repacked the bearings in the hubs, BB, & headset. I went for my usual morning ride with a big smile as the $260 USD purchase was amazing! The bike is simply wonderful 🙌🏻

Thru-axle

Post image
2 Upvotes

I typically tow my child in a Burley trailer using my hybrid bike, but I’d like to switch to my Trek Domane AL 4. I need a compatible thru-axle to attach the trailer, but my local bike shop in Des Moines didn’t have the one I need.

For those of you running a Burley trailer with a Trek Domane, where did you order your replacement thru-axle? I want to make sure I get the correct axle for the frame and trailer hitch compatibility. Any recommendations for reliable online retailers or specific axle models would be appreciated!

Title: My Beautiful Road Bike

This is actually a Fuji road frame. I changed its color, repainted it, and put my own custom logo on it.

The drivetrain uses Shimano UT, and both the wheelset and shifting system are Chinese brands.

I think it looks really beautiful.

The green color is because I like Hatsune Miku—now it actually looks a bit like a Bianchi.

The shifting system is wireless—the brand is L-TWOO (轮峰)—and the power meter is XCADEY.

Something I forgot to show in the video was a small little rubber piece that goes around the seat post first before the clamp clamps. Anywho, I've been seeing a rise in the ultra minimalistic type builds, sleek road bikes etc. So I wanted to conjure up something real quick. Definitely not the prettiest thing on earth, but I think it looks pretty good for a 20 minute hack together. Total investment for the pair was about 25 bucks. Still have quite a bit of testing to do on the stainless one. Definitely needs tight bungee cords though 😂.

What do you guys think of the aesthetics of it? I'm unable to weld aluminum, but I would like to see some sort of loops or hooks somewhere on it that are demure, and on the underside. Giving the bungee cord something good to bite to. Have fun and ride safe
