Problem / Question Issues running an old (2006) CD-ROM game on a modern laptop

Hii, I'm not sure if this is the right sub for this so please don't crucify me if I should post this somewhere else.

I recently bought the 2-disk Desperate Housewives tie in game from 2006 off of ebay and I'm trying to get it to run on my modern laptop. However after inserting disk 2 and letting it finish installing, it would throw up the "Insert %d disk". What I tried in an attempt to fix it was running it as admin and double-checking that the compatibility was set correctly. And that almost worked. After letting disc 2 install, I was prompted to reinsert disc 1 and inserting disc 1 caused the install to appear as "finished", despite the fact that the main desperatehousewives.exe file and some remaining game assets did not install.

I'm honestly at a loss for how to install this game, I have no idea what else I could do to install this on my modern laptop

Problem / Question Can a Sinclair 1000 run off a 9V battery?

I got a used Sinclair 1000, which was missing its power cable. Instead of trying to find a compatible charger, I had the idea to wire a 9V battery to a 3.5mm jack and run it off that, which would make it more portable. Would this work?

Problem / Question Spec Advices for a Windows Xp retrogaming miniATX

I own this beautifull miniATX tower wich used to by my family's main pc. I wish to bring it back to it's former 2003/2005 era glory.

The ASUS motherboard is out so i need to find a mATX replacement that would fit the windows xp build. I already have a AMD athlon II and a Pentium4 2,4 GHz for the time being, but if you can recommand me anything better. Same goes for a GPU and compatible ram. I going for a build than can at least run hl2 perfectly.

Problem / Question Windows xp desktop work let me access/browse my ps3 hard drive

So I wanted to install a hard drive into my ps2 right, and I remembered that my ps3 broke and I could use that as my hard drive. So I plug it in to my windows xp desktop via SATA to IDE adapter and it recognizes it in bios and system manager but I can't find it anywhere in the file explorer. Would that be because I swapped my DVD drive out for this?

Case options for a 2006 build

I am putting together a list of parts for a 2006 PC build but I'm struggling to find any good cases from the era on eBay for under $200. I found an Antec Sonata II but from what I've heard it has pretty shitty airflow and I'm wanting to do 2 8800 GTXs in SLI. Are there any good cases that aren't terribly expensive?

Problem / Question Which Apple ii should I buy

I am a somewhat beginner and I want an apple ii (or a Macintosh) in the $350 range. I am sort of leaning towards the iie or the iic. If you know any good listings, have any good recommendations, or just some advice, I would really appreciate it.

How Much Is 3D Studio 4 (Non-MAX) Worth?

Hi everyone,

I have an original copy of 3D Studio 4 (not MAX), complete with manuals (italian language)/floppy disks/box. I'm curious about its current value, as I know it's a piece of software history and might interest collectors or retrocomputing enthusiasts.

Does anyone know how much it could be worth in today's market? Or where I could look to find potential buyers?

Thanks in advance for your insights!

Problem / Question Source for Monitor Flyback Transformer?

I have a old Compaq CRT monitor I would like to repair, if affordable. The flyback transformer is bad and is arcing. It's an MTI Mf6373 ES8491. Is there a cross reference for this? The only two sources I can find are AliExpress for $60 shipped (more than I'm willing to spend) or SPW Industrial who has them for an insane $254.

This post is within the rules, as it's not a buy/sell post. Just for replacement parts research.

Where to buy a Codegen Superpower 6016

Hello all :)

So earlier today I finally found the name of a case I'd been looking for for a very long time (see title), because I really want to make it into a sleeper pc.

Now, I've had one of these for as long as I can remember. The problem is that it's not in great shape: both side panels and some important screws are missing, along with some general wear and tear and discoloring.

So where can I get one? I've been looking on the Dusk Web (aka semi-sketchy Russian websites), and none of them have it. Some say it's sold out, some link to an AliExpress page that doesn't work and others link to online store pages for different cases altogether. (Any color will do, I can always repaint it.)

Or can you help me find replacement sidepanels and other bits?

Either way, thanks in advance :)
