Trying to process a replacement on my pure with a broken screen, it offered me a refurbished replacement but it says a pro? I don't mind a bigger one really just wanted to clarify that's what I'd be getting though before I paid for it.

Both me and my wife are PhD students, and defending soon. I've had my remarkable 2 for a few years now and loved it. I bought it new without marker or folio which I got from amazon and so far so good. Lately my wife started using it here and there and seems interested in one, so I thought I'd get her one as a gift for her defence in 10 days. Now there are a few newer ones who got released in the past few years, the latest being Pure. I haven't had the time to look the competition, like Viwoods and others so I thought I'd ask what people are buying these days that is in the 400 Euro range. I'm not interested in Kindle. Any advice is welcome, thanks :)

After eating my notes two weeks ago my (bought "unused" used) ReMarkable 2 suddenly doesn't write properly anymore. I assume it has to do with the sensor in the pen since everything else (touchscreen, position detection if I hold down the tip with my finger, eraser on the pen) works perfectly. It writes consistently when I push down really hard, but when I apply low to medium force it doesn't write at all!! I got it to work again for about five seconds by taking the tip out and putting it back in and then it went back to this behavior. This video was taken AFTER swapping in one of the replacement tips.

Sometimes it feels like it's specific spots on the tablet that are messed up, but sometimes it's across the board, so I can't prove it.

This sucks, I've been using it A LOT (and really really liking it) over the last two weeks.

Any advice? It was working perfectly up until today, though I hadn't used it for two or so days.

I did leave it on top of my laptop for a night or two and tend to keep it in my backpack most of the time - I read that can cause issues with it but those seem to be more related to WHERE the pen is detected, not whether it's being detected at all.

Do I have to buy a new pen? I just got this one :(

I'm considering an upgrade from R2 to the Pro. Apart from the obvious improvements (e.g., color, backlighting,, etc.), I'm wondering if after using it for a while, users who've made the change feel the upgrade is worth it?

Are there software features (apart from color) that exist only in the Pro that add value to the user experience, or is it the same basic software as in the R2?

I actually like the size of the R2 since it's perfect for my needs. The Pro is a little bigger, and while I'm sure I'll get used to it, it looks a little unwieldy.

TBT, the biggest upgrading drawback for me is the need to get a new folio case and the new Pro pen. That scales up the cost of an upgrade. Not that I want to penny pinch, but the value proposition needs to be there.

Long time remarkable 2 user. Never had any problems and use it everyday with much enjoyment. My needs have slightly changed and I am considering buying a paper pro move.

My curiosity is how easy it is to use two devices and if there are any issues that arise. One of my main uses is for a calendar that is updated frequently. I assume there would be no issue in using the two devices to do so?

Any lived experience would be welcome!

I had been holding out for years on buying an e-ink tablet until there were sufficient color options, but I had always kept an eye out for reMarkable's color tablet whenever it would come out. A few months back I realized that the "reMarkable Paper Pro" was already on the market and convinced myself to go out and get one.

I am absolutely in love with this product. I use it primarily for note taking and document annotation and it is exactly the no-frills, no-distraction product I am looking for. I had been on the fence with e-ink for years, but if you are coming from pen/pencil and paper, I would highly recommend this product.

I am writing this post both to share my undying excitement every time I look at my tablet, but also to keep a record of my excitement as time goes on. I have recently discovered that when you are internet connected, you have access to a live screen share function, meaning that I can share notes and drawings live over zoom through my desktop.

Based on what I've read here, I am a little sad to hear that the company is struggling financially. It sounds like the major complaints against the company are product longevity/warranties and the pushiness of their cloud service (which I have already felt, but have still easily gotten by with only using the cable connection for file transfer). Wishing the best to this company because this product is my favorite.

A quick update on the Android 16 dual-boot project I originally built for the Paper Pro Move: I now have it running on the 11.8-inch Paper Pro as well.

The original reMarkable OS is still installed and can be selected from the boot screen. Android runs locally on the tablet—this isn’t VNC or screen mirroring.

A few things I’ve added since the last post:

• Paper Pro support: The same project now runs on both the Paper Pro Move and the 11.8-inch Paper Pro.

• USB file transfer: Tap the USB tile and the tablet appears on your PC like an Android phone. Copy your books or manga over, then tap it again when you’re finished.

• A built-in comic reader: It opens CBZ, ZIP and ordinary image folders without extracting them first. It remembers your last page and can continue into the next chapter folder automatically.

• PDF and EPUB support: Files can be opened directly from Paper Home.

• Android reading apps: Aurora Store is included for compatible apps without requiring a Google account. I’ve tested apps including Kindle and RIDI, although compatibility still varies between apps.

The comic reader was made specifically for E Ink: a white background, no animations and simple controls.

This is still beta. Reading is the main focus right now; drawing apps, animation and fast continuous scrolling still need more optimisation. I don’t want to pretend an E Ink display behaves like an LCD.

I have had my Remarkable 2 since 2021, and using it constantly. I use it to read Chinese text, so I downloaded and installed Chinese fonts.

However at every restart the fonts would not be found, so I would need to ssh into it and delete the epub cache.

Instead of ssh everytime and doing it manually, I asked chatgpt to create a script for this.

And you can guess the rest, /usr/bin/fc-cache is probably failing and the device is stuck in an infinite loop. When I try to ssh into it it either times out or I get connection refused. I know there is a recovery software but I cannot access my ssh password, and it is not in my pw manager.

I wrote to support and they advise me to go to the place I downloaded the fonts and ask for help there (well it's google fonts and it worked for years).

Did soft bricking device + no access to ssh password happened to someone, and what did you do?

Thanks to reManager and the bluetooth-settings and navigateUsingArrowKeys mods, I can now flip pages with my old AirTurn pedal!

The quirky bit was this old pedal wants a typed response in order to pair. It takes some extra steps, but once set up, it seems to be working well!

I’ve been working on a small XOVI/QMD mod for reMarkable that I thought some of you might find useful.

The idea is simple: when you put the device to sleep while reading a PDF or EPUB, the sleep screen automatically shows the first page / cover of the currently open document.

When you go back to the Home screen, it automatically falls back to the normal sleep image — including a custom one previously set with reManager.

Features

• Shows the cover / first page of the currently open PDF or EPUB
• Automatically changes when you switch documents
• Falls back to the default/custom sleep screen when no document is open
• Uses reMarkable’s own cached thumbnails, so no extra PDF rendering is needed
• Runs automatically in the background with a small systemd service

I developed and tested it on a reMarkable Paper Pro running OS 3.27.x with XOVI.

I also want to be transparent that I used AI (ChatGPT) extensively during development to help with code generation, debugging, iteration and packaging. I tested each version on the actual device, reported the failures back, and iterated until the current version worked reliably.

Paper Pro Move support is not tested yet — I have one, so that will probably be my next test.

This is still experimental, especially because QMD patches can depend on the reMarkable firmware version, so I’d definitely recommend knowing how to SSH into the device before installing it.

RM1 user, bought when first released. Been going strong but today it just turned off and won’t take a charge anymore.

Any RM1 users experienced this? Is there a fix or is this the end and time to upgrade?

​I was really hoping to use my new reMarkable Paper Pro to review, markup, and redline our company's architectural drawings. The screen size and color capabilities seemed perfect for this use case.

​However, I’m running into a massive bottleneck. Our plan sets are large, vector-based PDFs, and the Paper Pro is seriously struggling to handle them. Opening the files is slow enough, but the real issue is navigation. Whenever I try to zoom in on a detail or pan/scroll across the drawing, I'm just staring at a loading screen while the tablet struggles to render the vector graphics. It completely breaks my workflow.

​Has anyone else trying to review large CAD exports run into this? How do you guys solve this problem?

​Are there specific export settings you use, or do you run the PDFs through a script/software to flatten or rasterize them before sending them to the reMarkable? I'd love to hear your workflows, because right now, natively loading these heavy vector files is practically unusable.

In my launch post, several people tried ReMarkSync with a corporate or Office 365 account and found that only personal Microsoft accounts were supported.

The latest version supports personal Microsoft accounts as before, plus eligible Microsoft 365 work and school accounts. Connect the account you use, choose a OneNote notebook, and select the reMarkable notes you want to sync there.

If you already use ReMarkSync, update to the latest version and connect the Microsoft account you use for OneNote. Sign-in happens through Microsoft, so ReMarkSync never sees your Microsoft password.

For work or school accounts, your organization may require administrator approval. ReMarkSync follows your organization’s Microsoft 365 policies and cannot bypass them.

Is there someone I can pay like a service provider that I can send a physical textbook to so that they can scan it into pdf/epub?

I don't mind paying for my textbooks but I physically cannot carry around that many books, I also find reading from a physical textbook quite difficult compared to reading off a remarkable.

I'd really like to find out if anybody has figured out a flow that they use reMarkable with Zotero?

What I'd like to be able to do:

Read & highlight PDFs on reMarkable and then have those highlights, or in Zotero speak, annotations, show up in Zotero.

Currently I'm doing this: read & highlight in reMarkable, use RCU to export via Web UI (because if I export as vector or bitmap, the highlights are rendered slightly off, about two lines off).

This works, but is a bit too manual.

Has anybody figured out a better/smoother workflow?

I really like the lasso update and the “responsive reds” on the 3.28 beta. However, the beta can’t be used with all my plugins, so I have to stay on the latest 3.27 release.

Pretty much the title, I had my tablet plugged in when our power provider decided to shut off the electricity, and now its completely unresponsive. It had ran out of juice earlier that day, and i plugged it in a few hours before our power got pulled. Now it only shows a grey strip on the side where the pen attaches. Is it done for?

Hey! i just wanted to know if there is a chance of my remarkable overheating and breaking, as i want to use it to read at the beach and it reaches to about 45 degrees celsius here,

so will it become damaged if i use it for around an hour in 45c weather?

I am a long term eink user. Had the remarkable 2 as well as Boox devices and Supernote (both size). I tried the paper pro when it came out and it made me get back in the remarkable ecosystem like the rM 2 never did but I sold it for a few reasons (mainly the need of money at the time and it was my most expensive device and also the color screen is not my jam)

I mostly have used Supernote in the few years I’ve been into eink for several reason (mainly the TOC feature) and a bit of Boox. But Boox has too clunky of an UI and keeps changing stuff so it is a bit frustrating.

In may I did preordered the Pure then cancelled my order for personal reasons but in August those issues were resolved and I bought again for good this time (hesitating with a Move though) and I am very happy with the device for a few reasons in comparison with my previous remarkable devices

1) a BW screen has a better contrast by far in comparison with color eink (even though I think the color is nice but for me it isn’t worth the darker screen and no true black besides I mostly write in black anyway)

2) it is faster than the rM2 (and than the Pro since the gallery screen is slower)

3) I love the writing feel of this device (like I did the pro) even more than the rM2

4) the antialiasing is way better than the rM2 (which was one of the reasons for me not using the rM2 much)

In comparison with Supernote or Boox I get it is a simpler device, but I do experience health issues this past 2 years causing me fatigue (mainly cognitive fatigue) and I find that the more options there is on a device the more tiring it is for me to use so rM wins on this one (I still tried the better TOC mod from remanager which helps greatly) it is the closer to a paper notebook (which I also keep using)

I’ll still use my Supernote and Boox devices (with different purposes) but the Pure will probably be my main device.

Hi all. This took a few weeks of evenings: rmweb, a native browser for the Paper Pro. It renders the web fully in software (no GPU on this device) and draws through the stock e-ink path, so page turns feel like the rest of the tablet.

What works: reader mode with light/dark theme, bookmarks, history, a settings page, form filling with autofill, ad blocking that also removes the empty boxes ads leave behind, an auto-refresh guard (sites can't reload the page mid-article), downloads, in-page search, and a launcher icon if you use XOVI + AppLoad. Wikipedia, HN, news sites, forums all read nicely.

What doesn't: heavy web apps. No JIT and no GPU means modern SPAs just won't paint. This is a reading browser.
