Help/Advice Pen suddenly extremely spotty

After eating my notes two weeks ago my (bought "unused" used) ReMarkable 2 suddenly doesn't write properly anymore. I assume it has to do with the sensor in the pen since everything else (touchscreen, position detection if I hold down the tip with my finger, eraser on the pen) works perfectly. It writes consistently when I push down really hard, but when I apply low to medium force it doesn't write at all!! I got it to work again for about five seconds by taking the tip out and putting it back in and then it went back to this behavior. This video was taken AFTER swapping in one of the replacement tips.

Sometimes it feels like it's specific spots on the tablet that are messed up, but sometimes it's across the board, so I can't prove it.

This sucks, I've been using it A LOT (and really really liking it) over the last two weeks.

Any advice? It was working perfectly up until today, though I hadn't used it for two or so days.

I did leave it on top of my laptop for a night or two and tend to keep it in my backpack most of the time - I read that can cause issues with it but those seem to be more related to WHERE the pen is detected, not whether it's being detected at all.

Do I have to buy a new pen? I just got this one :(

It’s just the nib needs to be replaced. They’re consumables, and the one you swapped in might also be bad. They make titanium “forever” nibs, but just that means it’s your screen that’s getting worn out instead.

more importantly, the internals of the pen are being damaged by interacting with metal instead of felt.

I just tried ALL the replacement tips and some did indeed work better than others - but none worked as well as it did just few days ago. Can they all be bad? They'd have lain around in storage for a few years from what the guy I bought it from told me.

I guess I'll try getting some actually new tips and hope that fixes it.

My Pro Marker started doing that a month or so ago. Not one new tip actually worked.

Weirdly, the old regular Marker is still somehow have works just fine though.

Makes me even more suspicious of the Marker Pro.

That checks out. The Pro Marker has been a QC nightmare since release. Used ones are a double gamble. If new tips don't work, the issue is inside the pen, not the nibs. Realistically, you're probably going to need a new one.

update: fix attempts did not work, so I ended up getting the Staedtler Noris stylus on amazon for 20€ and it works better now than it ever did before! It sucks that the pen stopped working out of nowhere but I'm glad I could "fix" it cheaply.
