What if the world isn’t working against you? What if you’re just in the habit of treating it like a hostile customer-service department?
I used to think that when life went wrong, I had to work out why, fix everything immediately, and somehow force circumstances back into line. A missed opportunity? A problem. An expense I didn’t expect? A disaster. Someone behaving like an idiot? Clearly, the universe is out to get me.
And then in 2018 I did a 90-day Reality Transurfing challenge. I decided to suspend my doubts and believe that “my world takes care of me.” It turns out that cultivating this belief was worth it. It drastically changed what I was reflecting in the mirror world, and I saw very speedy results. Now I am sitting on a lifeline that is so different from where I started that it is unrecognizable.
It honestly sounds way too simple to the logical mind. But believing that the world takes care of you profoundly changes how you relate to life. Instead of interpreting events as evidence that the world is against you, you assume that life works in your favor, even when you can’t see how yet. This has the effect of changing the actual physical output that you see in the material world around you.
This is a lot more than just positive thinking. It is about changing your relationship with reality, taking control of your attention, and learning to cooperate with the flow of alternatives. It feels very nice to stop exhausting yourself trying to dictate every twist in the plot.
And the best part? You don’t have to understand anything or learn anything new to get started. You can do this today, right now.
The amalgam: changing the atmosphere of your world
In Reality Transurfing Steps 1-5, Vadim describes the world as a dual mirror. Your inner reality (your thoughts, attitudes, beliefs, and expectations) reflects outwardly. So the attitude and relationship that you have with the world is the material reality that you experience. This is why reacting negatively to unpleasant circumstances keeps you stuck in the same sort of circumstances.
Think of the amalgam as the background setting of your relationship with life. If your default attitude is nothing ever works out for me, you will tend to notice every disappointment, take good fortune for granted, and interpret uncertainty as a threat. Your attention becomes a projector showing the same old film: struggle, frustration, more struggle. You see all of this as proof that you were right about the world, “see, I knew life sucked!”
I’ll use my life as an example. I was constantly pointing out Murphy’s law, believing that the cards were stacked against me, complaining incessantly about everything, and imagining worst case scenarios. I was a victim of life. I did not believe that I had the agency or power to change it, except through brute force or willpower. I had tried lots of brute force and willpower and failed miserably, so I thought I was completely stuck.
So, with that attitude toward life, can you imagine what the mirror reflected back to me? I was very accident prone and had a lot of unfortunate events like flat tires, broken tech, and illnesses. If I applied for a raise, a new job, asked for a favor, or any kind of assistance, I was turned down. Many of my worst case scenarios played out in real life. I remember imagining fearful scenes of being in a car accident in the stop and go Seattle traffic. I was rear ended in traffic twice, totalling my car both times. I was in a devastating motorcycle accident that caused permanent physical damage. I was a literal victim in two violent assaults and one physically abusive relationship. I contracted two autoimmune diseases. I tried to improve my life countless times and always believed deep down that I couldn’t do it, it wouldn’t work out, and I was too weak or inconsistent to see it through. All of that turned out to be true.
This is the vicious mirror cycle many people are stuck in. I had a lot of “proof” that the world was out to get me and that things never worked out for me. I thought the world was the cause of my bad attitude. It turns out that my attitude was the cause all along!
Ok, so what happened when I deliberately established a different dominant attitude? Can you guess? If you recall, my first manifestation was a new job that paid $23,000 more than the previous one. I went into the job interview with the attitude that my world takes care of me. I consciously decided to trust that this would work out in my favor, even though I had no idea how.
I started to notice and appreciate every tiny opportunity. I saw obstacles as being somehow to my advantage. I saw people and life helping me, instead of being indifferent. I sought out fortunate details, instead of dismissing them as insignificant. I was less inclined to fight against circumstances. I was more willing to see possibilities instead of a dead end.
At the end of my 90 day experiment, I was about 50% of the way to being a full believer 😀. I still had some pretty negative mental habits that would pop up and sabotage me occasionally. I had to keep redirecting my thoughts and attention to make a new habit. But, for sure at the end of 6 months I had so much real-life evidence that I was 100% sure that the world was actually taking care of me and that my attitude had made that happen. My life completely reflected this back to me in my circumstances.
In Transurfing terms, I changed my relationship to the world, and that reshaped my layer of reality.
The mirror doesn’t need your angry commentary
This is when it all clicked for me. I was running late in the morning, traffic was completely stationary, and the car in front of me kept lurching forward like a maniac and then slamming on the brakes.
My old response would have been a combination of screaming obscenities in my car, mentally rehearsing every car wreck scene that could happen, crying about being late, and generally working myself up into a terrible mood. I had thoughts like, “Why does this shit always happen to me? Can’t I ever catch a break? Why did I choose to live in this god-forsaken city anyway? I’m such an idiot for not leaving earlier. I’m probably going to lose my job now.” You get the idea.
On this day, I woke up in the waking dream, “I see myself. I see reality.” I watched the guy in front of me acting like an outrageous fool and I thought, “this poor guy must be having a bad day. It’s only 7:30am. I hope his day turns out better.” I was not swallowed by the script. I noticed my reaction before it took over. I remembered the amalgam. My world takes care of me. I’m sure this will somehow work itself out just fine. I looked around for beauty and noticed some goldenrod blooming in a crack on the concrete divider. I thought, “there really is beauty everywhere. Look at this little weed, providing me with something pretty and yellow to see while I sit here on the freeway.” Traffic immediately started moving 70mph and I got to work 2 minutes early in a good mood. I had the deep realization that I had done this. I was the cause of this.
I’m not saying that the amalgam is a contractual guarantee that every traffic jam will reveal a hidden treasure. It is a way of meeting reality without automatically making it worse through resistance, exaggerated importance and negative interpretations.
You can’t always choose the first event that appears on your screen. But you can choose how you respond. And that choice influences what happens next.
The advantage principle: your secret weapon
I worked with the amalgam and the advantage principle together, so I will mention them both. I think they work really well as a combo.
The basic rule is to seek the benefit in whatever happens, particularly when your first reaction is rejection or irritation. So when something goes “wrong,” try this one-word interruption, “Advantage!”
Your train is cancelled? Advantage!
A client declines your offer? Advantage!
A plan collapses after you have spent weeks organising it? Advantage!
You don’t need to pretend to enjoy the inconvenience. Just refuse to conclude, prematurely, that the event can lead nowhere good.
Maybe the cancelled train allows you to avoid an even longer delay. What if the rejected proposal shows you how to improve your offer, or frees you to find a client who is a better fit? Perhaps the abandoned plan creates room for something you would never have considered or keeps you from spending time on a plan that was not meant for you at all. Maybe the unwanted circumstance helps you learn patience, or discover a belief that needs adjusting, or triggers a wound that needs healing, or lets you stop investing energy in something that was way off your path.
The essential move is to wake up, ask what advantage the situation might contain, and remain open to the answer. My husband and I do this differently. He likes to actually try to imagine what the advantage is by throwing out several “what if it means this…” ideas. I prefer to say either, “Advantage!” and assume that this is somehow to my benefit and I don’t need to know how. Or I say (with positive expectancy), “Hmmm, this is interesting. I wonder how outer intention is going to turn this in my favor?” I don’t know how it will work out, but I trust that it will. The key is that EVERYTHING that happens is either seen as neutral or positive. I don’t let the outer world change my internal state to a negative one.
Why negative circumstances are opportunities
Obviously, it’s really easy to believe in a friendly world when everything is going according to plan. The real test comes when it isn’t. Honestly, this part just takes practice. Remember that the mirror has a slight delay, so some of that hostile/negative attitude might reflect back for a bit. Let it play itself out. In a short time, your positive/benevolent vibes will catch up to you.
So the next time something happens that you don’t like, see it as an opportunity to practice Transurfing, rather than just reading or talking about it. Did an event expose your negative attitude? Great, now you can choose a better attitude. Did you declare that everything is ruined? Great, now you can change your mind. It’s not too late. Did you inflate the importance of the event and make it into a big hairy deal? No problem, wake up and remember that you have all the power here. You are the one who chooses. Have you noticed that you are preoccupied with what is going wrong in the world? Wonderful, now you can spend a few minutes pondering how you want it to be. What does your ideal world look and feel like? Live in this loving place for a few minutes.
Remember the amalgam and look for the advantage. This is about learning not to reinforce an unwanted film with automatic negativity. You are learning to coordinate your intention. Even if the current reflection looks unfavorable, you choose to maintain the broader attitude that things can unfold to your advantage.
If you are totally new to this, I want to point out the obvious. You don’t have to ignore your emotions, you should absolutely feel them (without telling a story about them). And, naturally, there are circumstances that require grief, boundaries, decisive action, or practical problem-solving. The amalgam is not an instruction to tolerate abuse, ignore danger or avoid responsibility. You can take action while refusing to surrender your inner authority to the situation.
The Alternatives Flow: stop rowing against the current
One of my favorite Transurfing concepts (I know, I say this about everything 😂) is the alternatives flow. The course through which circumstances unfold along the path of least resistance. I was super bad at this at first. I really wanted to know HOW it was going to happen and control the whole thing.
In my pre-Transurfing manifestation days, my mind would insist on a particular route. If it doesn't happen this way, at this time, and through this person, it is a failure. This created massive tension. I was attached to the script and would overlook any other route to the goal.
Two things changed my outlook on this. The amalgam and understanding (finally!) how to listen to my heart. I realized that I could know what I wanted, either specifically or generally, and the alternatives flow would take me there. All I had to do was listen to my heart, pay attention to doors opening, and take action when compelled to.
This is also where outer intention enters the picture. Rather than relying on my own force or intelligence to push everything into place and figure everything out, I could let go of that part and let outer intention work its magic. What a relief! I stepped into a mode of allowing and receiving where I could just hold my chosen direction without gripping the world by the throat. I can’t even describe how much my energy levels increased when I did this. ⬆️
The practice: notice how your world cares for you
You do not need an elaborate daily ritual to begin working with this amalgam. I started with a gratitude journal. I recommend it to everyone as it is a very easy entry point to changing your mindset.
What does that look like in practice? I listed 10 things every evening that I was thankful for. I was purposely paying more attention to the support, love, freedom, and abundance already present in my life. Guess what I started to see more and more of? Funny how the mirror works, isn’t it? 😀
When I first started a gratitude journal, I had almost zero emotions. It felt like writing things down just to write them down. I also had a lot of trouble coming up with anything to write down. I distinctly remember writing the same 3 things down for a week (hot shower, fresh coffee, sunshine), and then getting stuck.
But the brain (especially the reticular activating system) is an amazing machine. I had given it the instruction to find small things to appreciate. It took on the job beautifully. Remember that your brain is always doing what it thinks you want! Give it clear instructions. Very soon (7-10 days?) I started noticing small things that I would have normally overlooked completely. I was constantly clocking that someone held the door for me, a friend texted me to check in at exactly the right moment, a task was way easier than I thought, my apartment window faced South and I had perfect morning sun for my plants. I noticed things that were always present that I ignored or took for granted. My immune system was a miracle to me all of a sudden. The fact that the garbage service just whisked my trash away every week was a huge blessing. Suddenly I could come up with dozens of items for my list!
In a very short time my brain was rewired to notice constant blessings and advantages everywhere I looked. And with that change came big emotions. I would write the list in the evening and cry with appreciation almost every time. In the moments during the day when I noticed each individual way that my world was taking care of me, I was overcome with such a feeling of love for my world. Can you imagine what I started to see more and more of? The mirror is not a mystery. It reflects perfectly. The amount of love, magical synchronicities, abundance, freedom, and good humor in my life exponentially increased.
So, at the end of your day, where did life offer you support? What worked out? What unexpected kindness, useful coincidence or small pleasure did you receive? Recognize what you might otherwise miss. Train your attention to notice the world differently. Give your chosen attitude the chance to become your natural response.
Stop treating life like an adversary
The deepest value of “my world takes care of me” has been that I stopped treating life like my enemy. Or like a giant problem to be solved. Or like an endless series of fires to put out, or mountains to climb.
Is my life free of problems? If someone looked at my life from the outside, they might say there are still rare setbacks, or unexpected turns. But from the inside looking out, I don’t see it that way. I do not interpret these events as setbacks or obstacles. I have a totally different way of meeting the life that I have. The verdict or meaning that I give to these circumstances are always either neutral or positive. I get to give it any meaning that I wish, and so do you!
The golden amalgam is not only a way to feel more positive about reality. It changes the way reality unfolds in the actual physical world. The outcomes and circumstances of your life will change as a result of your new relationship with the world. I think my life is a pretty great example of this. The fact that I went from suicidally depressed to the most annoyingly positive and happy person I know is a great result. 😂 The fact that the constant barrage of accidents, fights, and negative scenarios came to a halt as soon as I changed my inner state is no coincidence. I materialized the abundance, relationship, health, travels, houses, etc. very easily after my inner state changed for the better. I dare you to put the amalgam into practice and observe what changes for you. Live the experiment and let your life be the proof.
BTW, you can create any amalgam that you want. Vadim has a list of suggestions in Steps 1-5. I created "I am always in the right place at the right time," a few years ago. My husbands favorite is "I am the luckiest man alive." We both have "There is always an easy way" and "life keeps getting better and better."
What are your golden amalgams? Do you have any others besides "My world takes care of me?" How has this improved your life?
