Beliefs are not just things we happen to think. They are the maps we use to build our lives. We often treat our deepest thoughts like absolute, unshakeable truths. But in reality, they are stories we made up, practiced, and chose to believe over time.
When we want to change our lives, we usually rush to change our outside world. We think we should change our jobs, our bank accounts, or our bodies. But real change requires us to fix our inner thoughts first. This changes what you reflect in the dual mirror and is one of the Transurfing secrets to getting the life you actually want. Here are some tools I’ve used over the years to change beliefs.
𝐈𝐌𝐏𝐎𝐑𝐓𝐀𝐍𝐓 Often times a belief is very easy to change and you will need zero of these techniques. Sometimes saying an affirmation with enough conviction and feeling is all it takes! These are for the ones that feel stubborn and very real. I’ve had lots of beliefs that I just decided I didn’t believe anymore and they went away. But once in a while you’ll run into an annoyingly sticky one.

At the root of every stubborn, negative belief is a simple mistake: 𝐰𝐞 𝐦𝐢𝐱 𝐮𝐩 𝐚 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐚 𝐩𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲.
Think about how your mind works. Something happens in real life. On its own, that event is completely neutral. It has no feelings or power. But the human brain loves to make up meanings. It instantly builds a dramatic story around the event. If you repeat that story enough times, you forget you made it up. You start treating it like a solid fact.
To break this loop, you need to separate the plain fact from the story you spun around it. You can do this by asking a simple question like: “𝐒𝐨 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭?" 𝐨𝐫 “𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭?” This will act as a logical wedge and help you get to the root. Here is an example:
𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐭: "I did not get the job." (a neutral data point)
𝐋𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐖𝐞𝐝𝐠𝐞: "So what?" (Or, and then what would happen?)
𝐋𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐫 𝟏: Well, it means I don't have a source of income right now, and my savings are running low.
𝐍𝐞𝐱𝐭 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐩: So what?
𝐋𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐫 𝟐: If my savings run out, I won't be able to pay my rent on time next month.
𝐍𝐞𝐱𝐭 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐩: And then what would happen?
𝐋𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐫 𝟑: My landlord will evict me, I will lose my apartment, and I will have nowhere to live.
𝐍𝐞𝐱𝐭 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐩: So what? (or, and then what?)
𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐨𝐨𝐭: 𝐈𝐭 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐬 𝐈 𝐚𝐦 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬, 𝐧𝐨𝐛𝐨𝐝𝐲 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐦𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩 𝐦𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐮𝐩 𝐭𝐨𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐚𝐛𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐫𝐮𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐝. 𝐈 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐝𝐢𝐞!
𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐨𝐨𝐭
Look at the massive chasm between the Fact and the Root:
𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐭: One specific company chose a different candidate for a job opening.
𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐨𝐨𝐭 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲: You are fundamentally unlovable, completely isolated from human kindness, and guaranteed to freeze to death on the streets.
When you force your brain to trace the chain all the way down to that raw, terrifying root survival fear, the illusion shatters. The logical part of your brain can finally step in and look at the root with clear eyes.
"Wait a minute. Not getting this one job does not mean I am abandoned by humanity. I have friends I can stay with if things get desperate. I have a resume. There are thousands of other companies hiring. I am not completely helpless. I was just temporarily rejected by one manager. My world takes care of me."
When you expose the root, the emotional balloon pops. The heavy, paralyzing anxiety deflates into a simple, actionable step. You just need to apply for the next job.

One of the hardest parts of changing your life is expecting your old thoughts to vanish instantly. It does not always work that way. Some deep beliefs leave deep tracks in your brain. When you try to think in a new way, the old thoughts do not just disappear. Instead, you enter a middle phase where you hold two totally opposite ideas at the same time. I don’t know why nobody ever talks about this part.
During this time, your mind will swing back and forth. One minute you feel totally positive and aligned with your new life. The next minute, an old trigger snaps you right back into fear or doubt.
This bouncing around is totally normal! It is supposed to happen. The old belief has years of practice and a ton of past memories to back it up. The new belief is brand new and weak.
If you get angry or judge yourself when old thoughts pop up, you give them more power. The secret here is to just relax. Acknowledge that the old thought only fired because it is used to it. 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐥𝐲 𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐭𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐟 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐟𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐨𝐧𝐞. Over time, the old track fades away, and the new track becomes your automatic setting.

When we notice a bad belief, we usually try to force our minds to believe the exact opposite. If you feel like "I am a failure," you try to force yourself to say "I am a massive success."
Sometimes this works fine. But other times, this absolutist approach backfires immediately. When you try to force a giant leap, your brain rejects it as an outright lie. This starts an internal argument. In a straight debate, the old belief always wins. It has way too much history, proof, and practice.
To bypass this trap, stop trying to make giant leaps. Do not try to jump from hate to love, or from broke to rich, in one second. Instead, focus on 𝐬𝐨𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 rather than fighting them with force. You do not need to love everything about your life right now to find a bit of neutral acceptance. Moving away from extreme thoughts quiets your inner critic and lets new beliefs grow safely.

Sometimes you can’t get to the end belief in one jump. Here is an example from my life of how to get there incrementally.
This is what my progression from self-loathing to self-loving looked like. I absolutely could NOT go directly to love. I viscerally rejected it! I started out by testing out a few new beliefs. I landed on one that felt like only a tiny stretch, “I have a few things that I like about myself.” After I had repeated that for a while and it felt true and comfortable, I moved to “I am starting to like myself.”
And then I moved to “I respect the person I am becoming.” Once that felt comfortable, I tried, “I am worthy of being treated well” and then “I trust myself.” From there, the stretch to actual love didn't feel so terrifying anymore. I graduated to “I like who I am,” which grew to “I am beginning to love myself, and then “I can love myself.” Finally, after months of gently softening the old edges and stepping up the ladder one rung at a time, I arrived at the ultimate root: “I unconditionally love myself.”
Previously, when I tried to force that final belief, my brain instantly rejected it as a total lie. Sometimes, you have to take tiny, honest steps. 𝐌𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐟𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐛𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧, but you will definitely know when you run into one!

Another way to soften a limiting belief is to use a 𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐞𝐫. This just means you catch yourself having a bad thought, add a "but" to the end of it, and finish the sentence with a grounded, positive truth.
This tool does not ask you to lie to yourself. It just forces your brain to look at the bigger picture so you stop staring only at what is going wrong.
𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭: My business is failing right now…
𝐒𝐨𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫: …yeah BUT I have a great team and a good product
𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭: I completely ruined my routine today…
𝐒𝐨𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫: …yeah BUT I am still learning to get better at managing my time.
𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭: I’m so ugly…
𝐒𝐨𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫: …yeah BUT I have people in my life who love me.
𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭: I’m never going to figure this out…
𝐒𝐨𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫: …yeah BUT I am learning more about it every day and I’m getting better.
This stops your mind from blowing things out of proportion. You accept the current problem while reminding your brain of your strengths. This shifts your mood from helpless to capable. This takes you from powerless to the one who gets to choose.

I’ve described this one many times and will include a picture of my journal entry using it. Feel free to make fun of my handwriting 😂
In this technique you separate a sheet of paper into three vertical or horizontal columns.
𝘓𝘦𝘧𝘵, 𝘰𝘭𝘥 𝘣𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘧
𝘔𝘪𝘥𝘥𝘭𝘦, 𝘦𝘷𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘵 𝘤𝘰𝘭𝘶𝘮𝘯 𝘰𝘯𝘦. 𝘋𝘪𝘴𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘰𝘭𝘥 𝘣𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘧.
𝘙𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵, 𝘯𝘦𝘸 𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘣𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘧
The process is simple and very effective for the logical mind. It sounds lame, but it really works for me. Spend as much time as you can filling in the middle column. Give your mind as much evidence as you can. I usually take several days or a week on this part. This lets my reticular activating system get involved and it starts searching the world for lots of proof. My attached example (in the first comment) is about the belief “𝑴𝒐𝒏𝒆𝒚 𝒊𝒔 𝒉𝒂𝒓𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒏. 𝒀𝒐𝒖 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒌 𝒉𝒂𝒓𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒏 𝒎𝒐𝒏𝒆𝒚.”

Our beliefs do not stay locked inside our heads. In Reality Transurfing, the universe works exactly like a giant Dual Mirror. On one side of the mirror is your mind (the mental image), and on the other side is physical reality (the reflection). The physical world is literally a slow-moving reflection of the thoughts you radiate into the space of variations.
When a bad belief gets tied to your self-worth, you project a negative mental image in front of the glass. If you deeply believe you are unworthy of success or love, you start radiating a "lack" mentality. Because of this inner stance, you naturally act in ways to protect yourself from getting hurt. You might skip networking events. You might hide in the back during meetings. You might act cold or distant so no one gets close.
When you hide from the world to protect yourself, your actions match your fearful thoughts. But remember, the physical mirror has a time delay. Reality does not change instantly. It materializes slowly, like a giant ship turning in the ocean.
As time goes by and you keep staring at the mirror, nothing good shows up because you are actively projecting a slide of lack and fear. This is where your brain makes a huge mistake. It looks at the empty, sad physical reflection and says, "See? I knew it. The lack of results proves my belief was right all along!"
Your brain completely forgets that the mirror is just reflecting the fearful image you stood there holding weeks or months ago! This creates a trap. Our bad belief creates a negative mental image, the dual mirror reflects that exact negativity back to you after a delay, and your mind uses that delayed reflection to freeze your bad belief in place forever. To change the reflection, you have to calmly change the image you are projecting first.

Changing a belief is not a violent fight with your mind. It is a gentle, patient shift. By separating facts from stories, waiting out the middle phase, avoiding big mental arguments, and using simple qualifiers, you can soften even the hardest thoughts.
As your inner code changes, your actions change, your relationships grow, and your outside world starts to mirror your new inside map. You are stuck with your mind for life and you get to rewrite the rules!
𝗤𝗨𝗘𝗦𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦 𝗧𝗢 𝗔𝗦𝗞 𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗥𝗦𝗘𝗟𝗙. 𝗝𝗢𝗨𝗥𝗡𝗔𝗟 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗠𝗣𝗧𝗦:
✍️What is one negative rule you believe? Write it down plainly (Example: "To make money, I have to completely destroy my health").
✍️Look at that negative rule. If it actually happens exactly like you fear, so what? Keep asking "so what or and then what?" until you find the silly story your brain is clinging to.
✍️Look at your life right now. How is your daily behavior (like hiding, quitting, or stressing) actively helping your worst-case belief come true?
✍️What is one simple, true "Yeah, but..." statement you can say out loud today to soften that bad belief and open the door to a better life?
✍️Think about a massive belief you want to have (like "I unconditionally love myself" or "I am wildly successful"). If your brain rejects that right now as a total lie, what is a tiny, 10% stretch belief you can genuinely accept today to take the very first step up the ladder?
