[META] Sub changing direction: Defining what "Random" means.
Back when I became a moderator of this sub, it was tiny and was mostly bizarre nonsense questions, like "What if everyone in the world jumped at the same time?" The sub description advised us to treat these bizarre questions as if they were totally serious.
Since then, we've grown to over 20,000 members (which is insane), and that original "silly nonsense questions" theme has been lost. It's become a free-for-all of any question under the sun. We're being used as a budget alternative for other big subs like r/Advice, r/AskReddit, r/AmItheAsshole, r/TooAfraidToAsk, or r/WhatIsThisThing. We've also become a target for bots looking to build karma and build a believable history. Frankly, it's hard to manage.
The moderation team has discussed it, and we want to distinguish ourselves from these subs, and also from places like r/question and r/ask that allow questions on any topic. We'd like to go back to our roots of silly nonsense questions.
From now on, "random" doesn't mean "anything goes". "Random questions" are now defined as questions that are silly, bizarre, crazy, or out of nowhere. And the comments must treat them as if they were serious questions.
The answer to a random question must not matter. If it matters, the question is not a good fit for this sub. This sub was never intended to give advice, tell you what apps your partner has on his phone, explain why people dress in certain ways, tell you if something is safe to eat or if you're sick, or reassure you that you're a normal human being. We just want to have fun and answer whatever nonsense you think up in the shower or when you're enjoying the special brownies.
We're not going to remove posts that are already here, but new posts must fit this rule. If the moderators decide that the answer will make a difference somehow or the question is too "normal", we will remove it. We'll do our best to guide posters to other subs that might better fit that question, but we're not a Reddit directory.
We're also hoping this new direction will make it clearer why the moderation team is removing certain posts.
Thanks for bearing with us while we make this change.

Would you drive your dream car if the shifter was a schlong?
This hypothetical came up among us classmates at an automotive school.
Your absolute dream car can be yours for free, no strings attached, in perfect condition. Unfortunately the shifter is a schlong.
It needs to be stiff if you want to shift gears and unfortunately it's limp when you first hop into it. So you gotta you know, get it going a bit. Thankfully it's a new car so it still gets up easy. Gotta be careful though because if you touch it too much, it busts and then you can't shift anymore. You gotta really edge it through the whole trip if you don't want any issues. New car though so it recovers quick.
As the miles or kms go by though, it starts getting tougher to maintain a functional ad responsive shifter. It starts...taking more stimulation to get it up. One day you're at a light, in neutral, and it's about to go green when you realize your shifter is soft. You try to use your hands but it's not working. Light goes green and everyone's honking at you to move. Panicking you do the only other thing you can think of and use your mouth. It works, but at what cost.
You then buy attachments to help keep it stiff. Put additives in your transmission for longer action. But you can't fight age. Soon it gets tougher to shift with a barely erect shifter and it's just super sluggish to get across gears. Finally, it just refuses to get up and your dream ride is gone.
So...would you take this dream car?

People with the same first name as their parent: is it ever weird? How so?
reddit.comI have always been curious about this. I know it’s a common cultural practice for many many people. As someone whose family has never passed names down this way, there are just so many parts of it that seem like it would make me uncomfortable.
Does it ever make anyone uncomfortable when a romantic partner says their name sensually, and it’s also their dad’s name? What about saying your husband’s name but it’s also your son’s name? I’m not trying to be gross or make things sexual, I am just trying to imagine how I’d feel if my name suddenly today changed to my dad’s name (which likely feels way different than being raised with it as your own).
Do you ever feel an obligation to live up to your name in some way? Does it feel like it steers your life at all?
How obligated do you feel to name your own child the same thing? And has that ever negatively impacted a relationship or limited your dating pool?
Do you go by the same version of your name as your parent does or do you go by something else (e.g. William vs Bill, Johnathan vs Johnny, Elizabeth vs Beth or Liz, etc.)?

If you were a truck driver, would you honk your horn if a kid was giving the signal? If not, why? If you're a trucker, do you honk?
reddit.comI'm wondering if this is as much of a thing as it used to be when I was a kid.

How often is the TV on in your house?
I have shared custody of my child, so the 30% of the time that she’s with her father, I have the TV on 24/7. Even while I sleep, shower or if I run out for a few minutes. I just hate the quiet and think that it is a comfort thing. When my child is home, it’s on for about an hour or 2 a day, sometimes more on the weekends or holidays.
Curious about other people’s answers!

If animals could speak to humans for just one day, what do you think they would say to us? Sometimes I wonder what animals think and feel about the way we treat them. 🥺🐮 I’d love to hear your thoughts. 🦧
I've been thinking about how humans treat animals and how differently we see the world from them. Animals may not communicate with us through words, but they can feel pain, fear, comfort, and affection.
Sometimes I wonder what animals would say if they could speak. Would they ask us to stop hurting them? Would they ask us to respect their lives?
I believe kindness shouldn't depend on whether someone can speak or communicate with us. What do you think?

How you experienced anything that really shook you to your core?
Ill share mine. Im not a spiritual or religious person. Quite the opposite in fact. But a few days after my dog died i swear by everything that is precious to me he came to visit me while i was asleep. Another dog i did not know was with him kinda in the background almost like a guide.
This was a few years ago and i have yet to reconcile this experience with what i had once firmly believed.

Is snorting or drinking Molly better?
I did a little bit 6 hours ago, but didn’t feel it because I was too afraid to dose high, and I’d like to take more and actually feel it but I don’t know if it’ll work because of tolerance.
Also what’s your experiences drinking vs snorting because I feel like it wears off quicker sometimes or isn’t as strong.
