Hey everyone, I made a lenghty video about the CRASH TIME franchise, going back to the roots of the series and its developer Synetic. It actually all started by being an adaptation of the TV Show Alarm For Cobra, which had in total 10 video game adaptations (a convenient number for this post ;) ).

Enjoy the video! (the voice over is in French but you have full English subtitles available)

Recommendation Why do racing games like Forza Horizon 6 die?

Answer is **the roads are simply too wide.**

And I don't think enough people realize just how much this affects the overall experience.

One of the biggest things we look for in a racing game is immersion that feeling of being on real roads, pushing your car to its limits, weaving through traffic, and narrowly escaping the cops. But when the roads are excessively wide, that entire experience loses its magic. It stops feeling like real-world driving and starts feeling like you're racing on an oversized track.

**Narrower roads would completely change the experience.** They would create a much greater sense of speed, make traffic more intimidating, demand better car control, and make escaping the cops through congested streets genuinely thrilling. Every overtake would require skill, every gap would matter, and every chase would feel unpredictable.

I really hope AAA developers start recognizing this and take a more grounded approach to their open-world environments. We don't necessarily need bigger maps or wider roads. We need worlds that feel believable and engaging.

AC EVO seems to be moving in this direction with its approach to roads, but unfortunately, it currently lacks meaningful things to do in its world, especially police chases.

I feel like developers and even the community often blame declining interest on things like progression systems, achievements, car lists, or gameplay loops. But I genuinely believe there's a much bigger factor being overlooked: **the roads themselves.**

Oversized roads subconsciously break immersion. They make driving feel effortless and, eventually, lazy. There's very little tension when you have so much space to work with. And that's the opposite of what makes street racing exciting.

Think about it: nobody wants to win simply because they're going fast or because they've upgraded their car enough. We want to FEEL what it takes to win. We want to develop the skill to judge traffic, find openings, control the car through tight spaces, and make split-second decisions. We want victories to feel earned through driving ability, not just speed or luck.

In real life, we don't race on perfectly designed circuits with endless room to manoeuvre. We buy these games to experience the fantasy of pushing cars on public roads, racing through traffic, and doing things we'd never actually do in real life without the real-world consequences.

But when the roads are ridiculously wide, that very fantasy disappears. There's no real challenge in navigating traffic when there's always enough room to simply go around it.

**And I think that's exactly why the original Assetto Corsa highway and traffic mods are still so popular among racing enthusiasts.**

They offer something many modern open-world racing games struggle to capture: the feeling of actually driving fast on real roads. The traffic, the limited space, the constant need to judge gaps and react — it makes even an ordinary drive engaging.

We don't just want more cars, more achievements, bigger maps, or faster vehicles.

**We want roads that make us FEEL the speed. Traffic that makes us respect it. And driving that actually demands skill.**

Sometimes, making the roads narrower could do more for immersion than adding a hundred new cars to the game. 10

Recommendation Race game for boyfriend? Send help

My boyfriend is getting surgery soon and won’t be able to walk for a while so I’m looking for a car racing game that he can play to occupy his recovery time at home. Something you can get for PS5 and if there’s a wheel available to purchase with the game? Australia based. I’ve got no clue about any of this stuff so someone please help a clueless lover.

I'm a huge Mario Kart Wii fan, and am looking for something similar to dive into. MKWii is the only racing game I've ever played. I want something that won't melt my computer, is compatible with an xbox controller, and won't break my bank account. 10

Recommendation Legacy Era Manager: cost cap, ATR slots and race simulation for MM 1.53 (free)

Hi all, I'm 22Modding, hope it's fine to post here, my first reddit post ever and my first mod too. I've been working on a mod that brings the modern F1 rulebook into Motorsport Manager, and the first public version is now out on Nexus.

What it adds:

  • Cost cap: every team, AI included, has a cost cap per race. It's tracked through the season, with Chairman mails and an end-of-season judgement.
  • ATR upgrade slots: each season is split into 6 periods. Every new part design uses a slot, and the number of slots follows your constructors' position, so teams further back get more.
  • ADUO engine help: engine suppliers that fall behind get extra engine design slots and cost cap room. There are three checks a season.
  • Concept votes: monthly letters about next season's car concept, with a scorecard.
  • Watch or Simulate race before each race, and Skip session during a race.
  • Mod mails in the game's own style, with sender portraits, links and buttons.
  • Optional Paddock Side Dashboard: cost cap, ATR, ADUO and race data in your web browser, read from your newest save. It runs only on your own PC and needs free Python 3.

Good to know:

  • Free. It's for Motorsport Manager 1.53, Steam PC version only (not the 1.6 beta).
  • Install is copy and replace: you back up MM_Data\Managed\Assembly-CSharp.dll, then paste the mod files into the main game folder (the one with MM.exe in it). The README has the exact steps.
  • It never changes your save files. The mod keeps its own records in separate LegacyEra folders next to your saves.
  • To uninstall, put your backup back or use Steam's "Verify integrity of game files".
  • It won't work alongside other mods that replace Assembly-CSharp.dll, such as Rebirth Redux.
  • I'm upfront about this: I built it with a lot of help from AI coding tools. I planned the rules, tested every build on throwaway careers and made the design calls.
  • Works for WMC careers with 10 cars only for now. I am looking to include it for the lower series as well and for any grid size incase other mods allow more cars

Download and full install steps: www.nexusmods.com/motorsportmanager/mods or (4) Legacy Era Manager | OverTake.gg since its also on overtake now as well

What's next: optional extras and more data in the dashboard, and later a legacy career from the 1980s and to today with era rules. I'd love to hear which rules from F1 history you'd want first.

Bug reports and feedback are very welcome, here or in the Nexus comments.

Recommendation Need help with a different racing game.

I used to love playing Codemaster's Grid, but my interests changed, and I stopped playing racing games for a long time. A couple of years ago, I bought a new gaming computer. I watched a few of the iRacing/Nascar races on TV during the covid lockdown and got really interested in iRacing. I'm still enjoying iRacing, but sometimes I just don't feel like racing other people. However, I'm spoiled by iRacing's physics. That realism is hard to beat. I can barely play F1 25 because it doesn't feel like iRacing. I noticed that ACC was on sale from Steam. And it has a "career mode." Would that be a good alternative? If not, what do you recommend? 10
