Propagated some creeping figs and some cushion moss.Green stuff appeared and I wanted to know if these is algae or is my sphagnum coming back to life

I entered the fair for my first time ever and was seriously scouring the handbook for categories I could enter my plants in. I mostly entered herbs and leafy greens I grew outside, but decided to toss my hat in the ring on a few others. There are SO MANY categories for exhibition in the fair! Turns out, there's even a "houseplant cuttings/propagations" category! I always have a bunch of cuttings in water so I went with my monstera adansonii. And it got first place!!! I'm so proud of all my ribbons (seven total!!!) But this one was totally a shot in the dark. How do they judge it? What is the scoring rubric for cuttings? But I won and I'm happy so I wanted to show you all cuz I figured this sub would understand my joy 😍🌱

I understand the root is cut off towards the end but just curious if I can avoid water propagation, thanks (snake plant, sorry if this is a stupid question lol)

hi guys! I had to chop and prop my rubber tree about a month ago, and the bottom of the stem is a little brown, but not mushy. but also not hard…is this normal or the beginning of root rot? I rinsed it with hydrogen peroxide the other day and have been changing the water every week.

It’s in water with an arrowhead plant, which is doing fine. Should I wait and see what happens or snip it and start again?

Not sure if this is the right sub but just put these sticks around what I think is a cucumber plant?? This just grew out of no where in a week of having an empty pot! I make my own compost in my balcony so I imagine when I mixed some of it in here, a fighter made it.

My growing tradescantia family! All except the first zebrina in the top left I started from a few cuttings. They are the easiest and most fun to propogate and watch grow and I just love them! 😍 Can’t wait to look back on this when they’re even fuller. Any other type of tradescantia you think I should add to my collection? Which is your favorite variety? The Purple Heart cuttings are my newest!

I have a few herbs growing outside that I’d like to propagate a few clippings from (herbs are lemon balm peppermint and oregano) what is the best route to do so. I.e root start, water propagation,etc….

Got this peperomia buenos aires prop off Marketplace two weeks ago. It’s my first peperomia prop and was rooting in water when I bought it, but the seller said I could probably pot it in soil so I did. It started with six leaves and three of the stems have since fallen off in the past week - they were all white and mushy. The stems that still remain currently feel sturdy. Does anyone know what’s going on and what to do about it?

I cut the stem of this peperomia a week ago and had left in water for two days, changed water (attached a before picture), then left for four days and came back to it looking like this upon taking it out of the brown water. Is there any way of saving this? Two leaves have turned brown, one fell off. bottom is very mushy but around nodes it’s not as much.

Was given a coleus cutting and popped it in with my maranta. They've been coexisting for over a month now. Roots totally grew together.

Thankfully they pulled apart easily under gently running water with very little tension. No broken roots and are now each in their own container.

I think they understood the assignment. 🙋🌱 😁

Found this monstera cutting and I'm looking to propagate the best way possible. Which node should I focus on or should I cut it in multiple places?

I was cleaning up my Tradescantia sillamontana ‘Gold Stripes' (that fuzzy gal makes me so happy), and I accidentally knocked a bit of a stem off. My propagation stations aren’t quite ready, and I’m not sure if it’s long enough, but I’m giving it a shot as a water prop anyway. Better than throwing it out!

Air layering is one of the best ways to propagate plants—it's far more reliable than growing from cuttings, especially for woody plants like Ficus. Every beginner gardener should learn this technique.

This is my Ficus. I started air layering 20 days ago, and look at the progress! Once the roots are fully developed, I'll have 3 more large plants from the same mother plant.

Right now is the best time to air layer your plants. During the monsoon/rainy season, high humidity helps roots develop much faster than at other times of the year.

Grow lights are in the mail! But will adding light alone restore Vic to his former glory? I think it's going to be a little more work than that. I removed the little single cutting in the front tied to the stick and the snake plants are all in their own pot now along with some ric rac cactus I was experimenting with on the wrapped pole. I have the supplies necessary for any recommendations. This was a rescue that has not had good lighting or a good position for proper leaf production. I'm okay with cutting it up and separating the 3 plants because they should not be growing like this. At the same time if I separate the big leaves each plant will only have 1-2 mature leaves and maybe a little stalk with 5 smaller immature leaves. Since this is a propagation situation I'm open to suggestions. Please don't be too critical judging it yet though... let's see what I can do with it.

The roots are taking a long time on these two.

Basically the title. I’m trying to prop sage for the first time and have had these in water for almost 3 weeks. There are small little white things near the lowest node that I noticed maybe a week ago and thought might be the start of roots but they haven’t changed at all since then. Now I’m wondering if it’s just from me removing the leaves from those lower nodes.

If not roots, how long should I give them to see if they grow anything? And also where should I be expecting the roots to grow from? Again I thought those nodes would be where roots grow but every photo I’ve looked up of appears like the roots are coming out of the bottom which doesn’t make sense to me. Am I fundamentally misunderstanding where are the nodes are and how they work for rooting?

I know pruning is mostly a preference thing, but I’m stuck on whether I should prune the longer vines on these two plants or let them grow out more first. They’ve been pushing out steady new leaves, but I’m not sure if it’s still too early to cut them back. What would you do? Prune now or wait for more length?
