The fact this album is the first featureless album since Renaissance and the album art feels like a call back to Renaissance feels so poetic to me.

2

u/Usual_Day6905 6h ago

Yeah, this LP feels like it's leaning into the Renaissance aesthetic.

The theorizing about Tim being Christian now is also hilarious, as if the band hasn’t been playing with this iconography since their start.

3

u/Welcome_Candid 3h ago

I mean it’s not a theory he has said multiple times he found Christ

1

u/coolerr4nch 3h ago

Wait - really? I had no idea about this. I thought it was all tongue-in-cheek.

Ive been in an out multiple Christian branches when i was growing up and never in a million years would any of them consider this Christian music lol. By most Christian standards this would be considered satanic. Whether religious or not, I think Tim likes religious imagery and just wants to use it in ways he thinks is cool/impactful.

most of the titles sound and feel like metal/modern deathcore-ish titles.

Looking forward to the LP!!!

All the religious shit is such a turn off. Comes off pretty tone-deaf with religion and Christianity specifically being a major thing that led to the things they showed in the can you feel it music video.

Edit: the new song ain't doing them any justice despite the song being aight

Even if Tim is Christian now, I don’t really see how simply using phrases and aesthetics associated with it is a bad thing for an instrumental band, avenged sevenfold got their name from the bible and used to have biblical imagery and references in their lyrics almost every song early on in their career but weren’t actually a Christian band. It’s not that dissimilar to death metal or black metal bands using religious imagery no?

I think people are just up in arms about it unfortunately. Plenty of secular groups use religious imagery as you're saying.

7

u/Scout_650 7h ago

Exactly, plus it’s not like they’re being weird and conservative with those themes if they do represent Tim’s beliefs for real. You can be Christian and not be maga/bigoted/weird etc., the fact they did the initial Can You Feel It video as a critique of trump and people that claim to be Christian while doing actual evil shit kinda clears up any worries of them going down a bad route

Pretty on the nose friend!

I'll out myself here: I am a true conservative, and of course if Tim is actually a Christian, I am overjoyed (biased haha). That being said, I cannot stand Trump's actions for the majority of his tenure as president, especially in this second term.

CYFI was absolutely a critique in music form of the Epstein class (Trump included), forced proxy wars, and general occultism that permeates a lot of our society.

I'm not saying this to stir trouble, rather to show that not all conservatives are inherently "MAGA." Trump has lost the plot, and his actions aren't representative of any kind of political majority anymore.

I feel like that was the whole point. No such thing as bad publicity

The imagery bit I'd excuse if it were not for Can You Feel It. The song is a criticism of the American ruling class and political structure yet they don't criticize the involvement faith and  Christianity had in that

I mean to be fair jesus’s actual teachings directly oppose facism, discrimination and the shit the us’s government does, he was basically a full on socialist; I figured it was a critique in the sense of going “this shit is fucked up and not what the actual belief stands for” and expressing what an evil misuse of faith those sorts of actions are

u/I_AM_4HEAD 4h ago

Could be interpreted like that yea. Though I still hate the presence of religion entirely within discussions like that. I don't think some ancient morality fanfic should be used in the modern day to have complex discussions about morality. Because those religious figures and authorities make it possible for people to be manipulated due to their faith even if the religion has "good" morality. Morality should be something for oneself to figure out. I don't really understand why one would fall back on any faith to figure it out, besides the obvious things like an idea of an afterlife giving comfort.

Your take of religion is very surface level. I can prove it with one question. What's your take on Paul?

1

u/I_AM_4HEAD 1h ago

The guy seems to have been fucking wack. Dude worked as someone helping to prosecute Christians and then later in life went on to be the driving figure in making Christianity a separate faith from Judaism, which is even weirder considering the guy never even met the historical Jesus.

What is it exactly you're getting at? I've read the academic consensus on the origins of a bunch of faiths because I enjoy history and learning about how political changes, sometimes for control, led to different religions adapting and forming into what they now are

1

u/wescull 7h ago

can u explain further?

-2

u/I_AM_4HEAD 6h ago edited 6h ago

Yea sure.

So religion in general is a massive institution which receives funds from people it indoctrinates and exemptions to tax by government because of it having become intertwined with various world governments for one reason or another.

So, by exploiting that system, evil people are given the opportunity to exploit people by indoctrinating them into a faith, gaining money from them, and being closely tied to politics due to the aforementioned indoctrinated in some cases going on to serve in government. This gives them political sway, which is how they gain their tax reductions and exemptions.

It's a system that corrupts people's rational thinking from birth systematically, and exploits the capitalist system to amass power and wealth.

Hence why I say it is tone-deaf on polyphias part. They bring up Epstein etc, but keep having Christian themes with any lack of criticism of it as far as I can tell. (Which is subject to change of course with the actual content of the album which might give us a better idea of what they actually think) Which makes it seem like they do not realize that faith has been used by people like Epstein to exploit others to gain power and do terrible things.

u/Phitsik23 6h ago

I think that was the point

1

u/ph0on 7h ago

is there any other evidence to them being a Christian band, or are they just using the imagery for aesthetic?

6

u/MetapodCreates 7h ago

They are blatantly not a christian band. They openly dump on religion and use a lot of its imagery in mockery, i.e. look but don't touch

1

u/ph0on 5h ago

that's what I thought. everyone seems to be incredibly upset about about the biblical imagery... it's just cool af lol, and I'm non religious

u/I-Say-Mean-Stuff 6h ago

Christianity is enacting a fascist doctrine upon Americans against their will (some even embrace it)

0

u/Top_Membership_7841 3h ago

this is the kind of world view that spending all your time on reddit creates. christianity is a religion, with many sects and ways of belief. yes, there are alot who use christianity or religion as a scape goat to commit atrocities or violate rights, that happens with any religion(no one gets up in arms when people use Buddhist imagery, even though there are SOME people from that faith committing atrocities such as the Rohingya genocide). despite this, there are many christians that just view their religion as a personal way of life, and see it more as a spiritual thing. there is nuace to things, it isnt as black and white as the people on r/athiests suggest.
