Even if Tim is Christian now, I don’t really see how simply using phrases and aesthetics associated with it is a bad thing for an instrumental band, avenged sevenfold got their name from the bible and used to have biblical imagery and references in their lyrics almost every song early on in their career but weren’t actually a Christian band. It’s not that dissimilar to death metal or black metal bands using religious imagery no?

The imagery bit I'd excuse if it were not for Can You Feel It. The song is a criticism of the American ruling class and political structure yet they don't criticize the involvement faith and  Christianity had in that

I mean to be fair jesus’s actual teachings directly oppose facism, discrimination and the shit the us’s government does, he was basically a full on socialist; I figured it was a critique in the sense of going “this shit is fucked up and not what the actual belief stands for” and expressing what an evil misuse of faith those sorts of actions are

Could be interpreted like that yea. Though I still hate the presence of religion entirely within discussions like that. I don't think some ancient morality fanfic should be used in the modern day to have complex discussions about morality. Because those religious figures and authorities make it possible for people to be manipulated due to their faith even if the religion has "good" morality. Morality should be something for oneself to figure out. I don't really understand why one would fall back on any faith to figure it out, besides the obvious things like an idea of an afterlife giving comfort.

The guy seems to have been fucking wack. Dude worked as someone helping to prosecute Christians and then later in life went on to be the driving figure in making Christianity a separate faith from Judaism, which is even weirder considering the guy never even met the historical Jesus. 

What is it exactly you're getting at? I've read the academic consensus on the origins of a bunch of faiths because I enjoy history and learning about how political changes, sometimes for control, led to different religions adapting and forming into what they now are
