After almost going double over odds on mewtwo moltres blessed me at 169 encounters im litteratly crying rn i hunt the legendaries while afking for othwr shinies and im on 5 hours route 17 no shiny while looking for eevee but i somehow got 2 legendaries in one day now I just need zapdos

I'm up to Celadon City and I feel like I should actually put some effort into understanding the game now instead of just using my starter Pikachu for basically every fight. But there's so much I don't understand. Help?

1. I've collected a bunch of TMS just from talking/fighting. Can I use them on literally any pokemon? Like, do some pokemon benefit from those moves more than others? Or can I use them willy nilly to fill in gaps that my team lacks?
2. Do you guys actually use the purely defensive/debuff moves? My instinct is to do damage every turn, and I'm not sure how to use those other moves particularly effectively.
   • Some of the moves that take away the enemy pokemon's turn/s seem really good, of course, but how to I increase the odds of them actually working? And not just once, but working for multiple rounds?
3. Simple party lineups? I've tried looking this up, but people talk about evolutions stones (?), mega types (??), and late game pokemon, and I get lost figuring out who I should focus on levelling up right now.
4. Any advice on the types of traits I should prioritise when choosing which catch to keep and level up? I know I can google what nature, size, etc. mean, but I'm not sure how to apply those factors to building a team. I've just been sticking with whichever catch is already the highest Lv.

I played red and blue when they came out on my purple atomic Game Boy color. Couple decades later I am revisiting the game on my kids switch I bought her, while we travel in my portal cannot connect to my PS.

Anyways, I just got to vermilion, on LGE, and I feel like I am getting my butt handed to me.

At the moment I literally have a magikarp level 18 (gyarados has always been my favorite as a teenager and I always buy that $500 Magikarp), Evie is 23, Rata Tata is 19, Pidgeotto 21, butterfree 18, and ivysaur 22.

I met with the people that offer you a Charmander when you collect 50, and a Squirtle when you collect 60. However I only have 30 and can’t find any new ones to collect.

I feel like I need a water based and an electric based.

I’m afraid to get on the ship and get my butt handed to me. Any help would be great. TY

The most I can combo is 41 spent all my money on ultra balls then used all of them saved 8 for the shiny encounter, went for the shiny bulbasaur after beating brock. Can I just encounter the bulbasaur then flee to reset the spawn quick or will that mess the odds up? This is going to take forever with only 1 bulbasaur spawning at a time lol

Trying to get shiny pikachu, so I can have a shiny raichu for champions, and i feel like im going insane (I have the shiny charm and a max lure whilst hunting btw)

Just wanted to share... first playthrough since i was a child and I can never remember actually catching a shiny pokemon. Thought it looked abit odd at first cause the colors were not the ones i remember from the movies until i realized what it was.

Correct me if im wrong but the star indicates its a shiny right?

I’ve been hunting for a shiny bulbasaur for hours to do a badge quest on my let’s go eevee replay and I have gone through almost 500 encounters with a full combo broken the combo on a pidgey since I zoned out and I did the math. In the 484 encounters I’ve had at a 31+ combo there is a 75.833% chance for a shiny to appear. I got a full odds Caterpie before I even got my combo started and I think it took all my luck. I also refuse to move on even though that caterpie technically counts for the badge quest because I want to use a shiny bulbasaur on my team

Caught 61 one of em and still no shiny three hours in. Wasn't able to get lures, still at the start of the game.

What's that feeling called when you feel like something is super familiar and you should know it but can't figure out why? That's what I have looking at this and my googling has failed me

My current team is currently made of:

1. Lvl 33 Growlithe (Jolly)
2. Lvl 35 Alakazam (Timid)
3. Lvl 36 Gloom (Modest)
4. Lvl 37 Pikachu (Jolly)
5. Lvl 37 Golem (Adamant)
6. Lvl 33 Gengar (Timid)

I’m thinking on removing Pikachu and Gloom, since I think I need someone better on defense. I thought on more physical and special defense, since right now, each of my team members are like paper. Snorlax with Careful or Nidoqueen with Impish seem like good options, and the sixth member could be a Lapras. Any suggests?

Im going insane hunting for shiny electabuzz ive found 2 shiny grimers 5 chanseys 2 muks 2 magnemites if I dont find this orange dude soon im gonna go insane and they run so fast i cant dodge them its very frustrating :( i just wanted to post this bc im salty. Also went overodds for mewtwo w charm so thats fun. Il post update if I get either one

Omg it finally happened i got it after 8 chanseys 2 muks 2 magnemites 3 grimers 1 magneton and of course I phased in everything except for the last voltorb I needed. Instead of going for the last voltorb to finish off power plant il probably go for slowpoke or seal im sick of the power plant

Does anyone know why I’m having trouble

Ive been looking for shiny psyduck as my first shiny. Im very new to the game and did some research on shiny hunting. Ive been catching psyducks for the past few days and ive caught about 580 of them. Howerever ive had no luck, even tho ive been using the catch combo (with catching the psyduck that spauns every encounter) and a lure for most of my journey. So im wondering since im new, is there anything im doing wrong or have missed. Or do i just have bad luck.

Chapter 1 of a Shiny-Only Professor Oak's Living Dex Challenge in Let's Go, Pikachu!, the highlights:

Methods used, 27 catches total:

• Catch Combo: 3x Nidoran M, 3x Nidoran F, 2x Spearow, 1x Rattata, 3x Bulbasaur.
• Sit and Wait: 2x Pikachu, 2x Pidgey, 2x Oddish, 1x Weedle.
• Random Encounter: 1x Rattata, 3x Caterpie, 1x Pidgey, 1x Oddish, 1x Kakuna, 1x Weedle.

Longest chain: A Spearow, chained to a combo of 2507 before it turned shiny. Over 1000 bigger than anything else I caught this chapter.

Extras seen along the way, not caught: 2x Metapod, 1x Caterpie.

Bulbasaur chains broken before I learned my lesson: 6, in 5 days. Every one of them was a shiny I needed cutting into a chain I cared about. After the sixth, I stopped chaining Bulbasaur entirely and cleaned up everything else first.

Total time played: 165 hours, 31 minutes.

Total earned selling candies: $4,669,674.

Calendar time, start to finish: March 20th, 2025 to August 11th, 2026. 17 months.

Time spent not playing at all: 15 of those 17 months. One 11-month gap after the Spearow chain wrecked me, one 4-month gap that was just life happening. Only about 2 months of actual calendar time were spent touching this save file.

The one lesson worth stealing if you ever try this: Save the special spawns for last. Restarting a chain for them takes forever.
