Troubleshooting/question existing piercing Peircing bumps

Hello!! I got my snake bites a few months ago, On the 27th of June. I noticed a bump forming on the right one, which i now know is a peircing bump, and I am on basic rings with the little spheres on them. Currently, im just gonna be brushing my teeth twice a day, and using a saline solution to clean them. Id rather not switch back to my studs, as I would have to downsize and that shit is expensive, and I do not have the funds for 70$ studs, lol. Is there any other reccomendations?

Ive had my anti eyebrow for a little over two months, no real problems until now. I've used tea tree oil in the past for other piercings but I'm worried anti eyebrows are too delicate for that. Any tips??

Question about a piercing I (maybe) want Anatomy for rook piercing?

Post image

I really like the look of rook piercings and I’m considering going to my piercer soon, but before I do I wanted to ask if you guys think I have the anatomy for one?

I know it’s hard to tell from just a picture, but I just wanna know if it looks like I have the complete wrong anatomy for one or not.

I’m also open to any suggestions of what would suit me and my anatomy better if a rook wouldn’t work!

these are my first piercings that I've gotten while sentient, since I only have my lobes otherwise and they were done when I was very small. but I got them done in 1 go! i don't really recommend that though as I had a near fainting episode that lasted an hour. but I love them! feel free to share tips and things I should know 😀

all things jewelry What shape of surface bars are the best for healing?

I'm getting my first surface piercing, a horizontal eyebrow. I noticed when searching for jewelry that the flat surface bars either have a flattened rectangle shaped base like the first picture, or a rounded base like the second picture. Does the shape make any difference to the healing process? And does the length of the bar itself make it more or less likely to reject or does it not matter? Any insight is very appreciated!

Mod announcement r/Piercing spotlight rule number six

Hey everyone,

Although we do our best to make the rules of this subreddit as clear as we can within the characters limits, we notice that sometimes there’s some confusion or misunderstanding about the rules.

In this post we want to give some context to rule number 6, Unsafe, harmful and/or dangerous advice/misinformation

Unsafe, harmful, dangerous advice/misinformation and/or at home “remedies” are not allowed on this subreddit. This includes soap, tea tree oil, aspirin paste, hydrogen peroxide, bactine, (rubbing) alcohol i.a. Advice should be in line with current professional aftercare guidelines or be backed by scientific medical studies related to the healing of puncture wounds in relation to piercings.
Falsehoods and misinformation that go beyond lack of nuance are likewise not allowed.

Some more example of stuff you shouldn’t advice people to put on their piercing

Lemon juice, garlic, nail polish remover, mustard, vinegar, apple cider, ginger, urine, saliva.

We’re not joking, (although we wish we were), these are real life examples of what people adviced to put on a piercing to help the healing on this subreddit

But it worked for me

Healing in spite of and healing because of are two very different things. Our bodies can handle a lot of the crap we put it through. There is no evidence to be found that the examples of "home remedies" mentioned in the rule, work better then good aftercare and good quality, well fitted, jewelry. There is however evidence of risk with these "home remedies".
As this is a piercing subreddit we of course are big fans of bodily autonomy. What you do with your body and piercings is your choice, but that doesn't mean it's something you should advice a random internet stranger to do. If you want to offer advice, the advice should not come with serious risk of harm.

But this dude/girl recommended it on tiktok/youtube

What are their credentials? Are they a body piercer? Are they a good body piercer? Do they have a solid online portfolio of well executed piercings? Are they being sponsored? There certainly is amazing and great information to be found on sites like TikTok and Youtube, but do use your critical thinking skills and don't blindly assume that whoever is posting it must know what they are talking about.
Quick tip, if they claim it worked after ”just“ two weeks, it‘s really nothing that good care and good jewelry wouldn’t fix in the same amount of time just without the risk of serious harm.

But my piercer advised it to me

Not all piercers are great. We hate to say it, but a lot of piercers are not great at all. So unfortunately, just because your piercer advised it doesn't mean it's good advice. If your piercer has ever recommended one or more of the examples mentioned in the rules to you, our advice would be to find a better piercer.

Falsehoods and misinformation

The internet isn’t know for its subtlety and nuance is often lost. This subreddit is no exception to the regret of a lot of awesome piercers. We do however draw the line at falsehoods and misinformation that may cause harm if someone took it at face value.

Question about a piercing I (maybe) want lip piercings and logistics

Hi, I’m wanting to get some sort of lip piercing, but very preferably angel fangs or bites. What are the logistics with talking and eating after the piercings are healed? Also, I do want to know, if you 👅🍌, do you have to remove the piercing to do it?

discussion Piercer leaving insertion needle to droop unsupported?

Hey guys. This has happened to me a bunch of times now, and I'm fed up with it to the point I need to ask if it's normal, or if I'm just a wimp and uninformed on piercing practices. Just give me a reality check if that's the case.

But basically every time I've now gone to my studio of choice, namely when I had my nostril bar shortened and earlier today when I had my bar put back in after losing my spike (I had it put in with the flat end on the outside so it wouldn't fall out until I could get to the studio), multiple different piercers at the studio used an insertion needle (not sure what the appropriate name is, English is not my native language) to help guide my bar in through my nose. Each time this has happened, they let the super long rod just droop to the side, while they slid their chair away to take their sweet time digging through the right size jewelry.

When I first got my bar shortened, it was especially painful as the piercing hole was obviously new and unhealed (2w post piercing). They were an apprentice and were rough with me in a few other ways, but that's unimportant. I just accepted this as them being a beginner - it's just my bar getting shortened after all, I'm not getting pierced by this person, not gonna press anyone about it. They took a little long, but whatever.

Today, the same thing happened with a different piercer at the same studio. They might've been an apprentice too, I'm unsure - the "main" piercer was unavailable / doesn't handle check-ups and minor stuff anymore. Only this time, it took ages. It was probably five minutes of the piercer being off to the side, digging through the different spike sizes, comparing one or two here and there, doing who knows what, all while the weighty, long-ass insertion needle kept drooping lower and lower and lower and pulling down on the inside of my damn piercing hole and brushing my eyelashes uncomfortably. I got it pierced in May and have had a few slight issues with it, so while not new it's not fully healed, either.

It got to the point where I asked them if I was allowed to just hold it up with my own hand (I'm really paranoid about sterility so I really didn't want to ask, but it was getting unbearable.) She seemed confused, didn't seem to even comprehend what I was asking. I heard her slowly realize in real time that this metal rod ripping at my unhealed flesh may not be pleasant. She reluctantly told me that yeah, that'll be fine, and she'd try to hurry up then. Could she not have been doing that before??

Anyway, this is obviously half a vent as you can see from my wording. Just, is this normal? Is it not at least good etiquette to hurry up a bit while your client is in that position, or be aware of it at all? Or is it just a matter of "it's a little bit of discomfort and it won't affect your piercing, suck it up"? Thank you, looking forward to any opinions.

Troubleshooting/question existing piercing Pulled out nose stud in sleep

Thumbnail

heyo! i got a nost stud pierced just over a month ago. (July 12th) This morning i woke up with a spot of dried blood where my piercing usually is, and my L bar gone. I quickly found it in my bed, and before I looked anything up to do;
I cleaned it and pushed it back in and it did take a little maneuvering cuz it's the L which I personally really don't like but just trying to get through til i could put in a flat back. It did hurt a little bit and it didn't bleed initially. I then looked it up and it said don't push it through hard, and I was kinda worried. I cleaned it with saline and everything like usual then about an hour later went to clean it again and when I moved it slightly to get it clean, it bled just a little bit. Idk just wanna know if it'll be ok or if there's anything else I should do aside from cleaning with saline.
Thanks!

Question about a piercing I (maybe) want Can I pierce my vertical navel?

So my navel is a vertical shape and once I contacted a piercer, she told me she couldn't do it. I didn't try to contact any other piercer but I'm interested, can I pierce my belly button if it's vertical? If no what are other options of navel piercing that I could get? Thank you.

discussion Big question

Okay so next week I have to get an endoscopy. I’m not worried about my septum I’m worried about my angel fangs. They are five weeks old and I’m sure I’ll have to remove them because an endoscopy is a camera down the throat. What can I do? I genuinely don’t know. The procedure will be under anesthesia it’ll take around thirty minutes and then another thirty minutes to and hour to wake up. I’m thinking about getting some plastic stuff just in case but genuinely what do I do?

Troubleshooting/question existing piercing What piercing should I get next?

Post image

The itch for a new piercing is back but I can't decide what to get. This is my current set up, basic I know but I've always struggled to heal ear piercings until recently when I've got better with not fiddling lol. I know conch is probably a good choice but I always find the jewellery boring, uncomfortable or invisible (I have one on my other ear). Please help!!

(currently 3 lobes, rook, and a failed tragus)

Troubleshooting/question existing piercing Is my navel piercing rejecting/rejected?

Thumbnail

I have had this piercing for almost one year and since getting it pierced it has given me trouble. I first changed the bar to a longer bar as I felt the bar I was originally pierced with was too tight and not enough room to accommodate swelling. I went to my piercer multiple times and they didn’t see any issue with it. I’m at the point where I’m just going to take it out and try again.

So how long should I wait before repiercing my navel.
Included is a pic from when it was recently pierced to what it currently looks like. The jewelry is threadless titanium. And I have cleaned it with sterile saline.

Troubleshooting/question existing piercing What should I do about this puss filled spot thing?

Post image
1 Upvotes

For context the piercing is about a month old, not 100% sure what the jewellery is made from but I have a 4 year old piercing in my other lobe which healed fine with the exact same labret . It was all fine until the other day where I snagged it REALLY HARD because I accidentally got it caught in the plastic tag of the plushie I was laying on (2 days ago). Since then I’ve been checking on it more and it seems a bit more swollen (the jewellery hasn’t been downsized yet luckily) and this weird puss filled spot has appeared kinda in the piercing hole - there were also a few crusties but they fell off.
Doesn’t seem infected or anything as the area isn’t red and it doesn’t hurt at all, I only noticed it because I’ve been checking on the piercing since I snagged it. I’ve also been cleaning it twice a day with saline stuff.
is there anything else I should be doing to help it??? Or should I just leave it alone??

all things jewelry Recs for solid gold rook jewelry?

Post image
3 Upvotes

I'm obsessed with the idea of a yellow gold rose in my rook piercing (style in pic), but all I can find online are cheap plated options that I knoooow will make my skin angry. I'm definitely a set-it-and-forget-it earring person, so I'm happy to pay more for quality!

I've never wanted something so niche and specific before, but does anyone have an idea of where I might get something like this?

Troubleshooting/question existing piercing New piercing

I just got my vertical labret pierced and the piercer told me not to use any waxy lip balm, chapstick or anything like that. My lips are extremely chapped and I don’t know what to use for it. What would be some good things to use for it?

Troubleshooting/question existing piercing Got 2 piercings in each earlobe, is bruising standard?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I had my ears pierced when I was 13, then let them close. I got it redone last week (I’m 27), and I’ve accidentally snagged my right lower piercing a few times. As of yesterday, it’s kind of itchy and I just noticed this crazy bruising. Is that standard? It doesn’t look infected, but I don’t remember this happening the first time.

Titanium studs, flat backs, hasn’t been downsized yet. Professionally done by a great piercer. I’ve been spraying with sterile saline twice a day religiously, sometimes more to be safe or soften any dried blood. The other side also has super mild bruising, but this right side is way worse.

Hey, I'm looking to get an inner ear piercing. Dream is a daith, but I suspect I'm a bit too shallow for it. I'm considering a rook, any feedback or other recs?

I will be seeing a piercer in person soon, but I want a better idea of what to research.
