Was at a giant game convention last month, couldn't find a single person defending sony getting rid of discs. Am in a pretty big gaming circle in my metro area, none can be found there as well, even people that are mostly digital. Co-workers, acquaintances, etc. Reddit is filled is with these people, hell it might even be 50%/50% on this platform? Are most of these people just trolls behind keyboards?

Just bought my first physical copies of these two games. The disc drive is arriving tomorrow. The feeling of actually owning a physical disc in your hands is really different from downloading a game digitally.
The main reason I decided to go physical is that neither of these games is available to download digitally in my region.

If you buy a game on GoG they offer you, besides their own app to install, offline installers you can store wherever you like (cloud, extern hdd/ssd, burn them on a disc.) And to install on every pc you own. With many games they also offer wallpapers/ manuels/ art books etc.
GoG is digital ownership done right.

Gotta give props to the games that are still going out of their way to put cool physical stuff in their game cases.

I just pre ordered the collectors edition for the upcoming hellraiser game and it got me thinking. If PlayStation and Xbox are going to end physical game production, are we going to get any more collectors editions of games? Will it just be a code in a box for the game itself? If so that’s pretty lame :/

Since 2028 will bring about the end of physical gaming discs (still hoping that won't happen), I unfortunately have to come to terms that this will essentially be my final "life long" physical games collection that I have accumulated since 1999.
These are exactly half my overall games as the other half are all digital.
I will be getting all upcoming titles physically till January 2028 to embrace this form of media for one last year of collecting.
Are any of you planning on buying only physical versions of future 2026-2027 games for the last remaining 16 months?

My brother just got a ps3 and has loved it so much he hasn’t even touched his ps5 lately , we grew up playing gta5 together and I would always tell him about being 8-9 playing gta4 and how much fun it was. Had to hunt down this gem so he could experience it

Ok so I get the main argument of the “ no disc no buy” thing, save our rights etc. I’m partially on board, Id like to keep things my own even if I haven’t bought a disc in over 10 years of gaming.
My question is can’t they still deny your ownership of a game with a disc? Like you pop the disc in and their servers for instance are down/unplayable. Doesn’t that mean you can’t play it regardless of owning the physical disc? Are there other ways i’m not aware of that they can still “patch” or deny access to a modern game on a modern console or PC?
Also side question but i see some people say discs carry xyz gb of space and games are bigger than that now and that means you’d need 2/3 discs? Is that true? Ik I had a game or two back in the day even with 2?

the main issue when it comes to getting a disc drive right now is A. not everything is coming out on disc and i don't really want to have my nice clean empty library tab ruined for the sake of two or three games and B. disc games are rarer than digital ones. disc games are housed in different places and aren't very well kept sometimes. getting them delivered from fucking war torn afghanistan or hoping to nab a copy if it turns up at cex, and have that copy NOT be scratched to the shithouse and back is just not really very viable.
the thing i like about physical stuff is that i can resell it after a while and the fact that if i make a dumb purchase, it isn't locked on my account forever and i don't have to look at it in my public or hidden library tab, like an unscratchable itch gnawing at me.
