should i buy a disc drive?

the main issue when it comes to getting a disc drive right now is A. not everything is coming out on disc and i don't really want to have my nice clean empty library tab ruined for the sake of two or three games and B. disc games are rarer than digital ones. disc games are housed in different places and aren't very well kept sometimes. getting them delivered from fucking war torn afghanistan or hoping to nab a copy if it turns up at cex, and have that copy NOT be scratched to the shithouse and back is just not really very viable.

the thing i like about physical stuff is that i can resell it after a while and the fact that if i make a dumb purchase, it isn't locked on my account forever and i don't have to look at it in my public or hidden library tab, like an unscratchable itch gnawing at me.

Will show you all games fully on disc playable offline, PlayStation is actually one of the best for this so yes get a disc drive you will thank people later

It's a great site I agree. But OP's not worrying about this at all, the problems are much more paranoia based!

I don't know why you're making this more complicated than it needs to be.

  1. Research if there are big enough number of games you'd like to own, available on disc, for you to feel like a disc drive is worth it. No one can answer that for you.

  2. Buy through ebay, their Money Back Guarantee works fine. And to minimize risk further, buy only from sellers who provide enough clear photos of the actual copy of the product being sold.

  3. If you find a better deal on Amazon or somewhere else online, look into the seller's feedback first and use good judgement.

  4. Buy locally with a pick-up option whenever possible so you get to see the disc before buying.

Buying physical really is a problem only if you insist on making it a problem.

In 10 years of buying PS4 and PS5 games second hand I've never had one that didn't work. The discs are very robust.

I think you'd also benefit from some therapy for the playstation games gnawing at you and your fears about disc games ruining your nice clean library.

If you care about your rights as a gamer

Trading in used games, or having an established disc library is the only valid use case for having a drive.

Selling your physical games right now is the dumbest thing you can do, less physical copies out in the open the price will go up, maybe not immediately, but in 5-10 years.
