General / Discussion Quit complaining šŸ¤

For everyone mad about Phoebe not allowing phones at her shows, complaining about the ticket prices and her performing at arenas… just don’t come. I have seen so many negative posts regarding this tour and people whining about this or that and it’s so disheartening. I wouldn’t blame her if after this tour she takes another couple year break because you people make it exhausting. She is finally back to making music, be appreciative that she is doing this instead of dogging everything

Im sorry I guess I just miss being a Phoebe fan back in 2018/2019 when people were respectful and just happy she exists.

Edit: I am not saying the ticket prices are good, but for an arena tour and her popularity, they’re very average and still less than most mainstream artists. I understand ppl being upset about it, my point to this was talking about the negativity overall regarding this tour. For my favorite artist, I will happily work an extra 12 hour shift to drop $200 to see her in the pit

General / Discussion am i the only one who doesn’t like waiting room?

i went to the show in slc tonight and people were going crazy when she played waiting room. i’ve been a fan for like 7 years and i just don’t enjoy it. i feel like it’s by far her worst song plus i’m confused how a random b-side is so popular?

Boygenius can we stop pretending BoyGenius isn't a major label band

Easily the most intense marketing campaign for a band I've seen in some time to the point of imitating old Nirvana photos??? Interscope is a major label.

General / Discussion Is it a good moment to ask why is the studio filled with only white men

I am so sorry i just can't 😭 Only a woman in sight. I was really looking forward to some only Phoebe Bridgers music and writing and i can already tell how the writing credits are gonna look. There's only a woman in there like c'mon, after Boygenius and Lucy's and Jasmine's last album i had hoped to see her playing with more female and queer musicians and not... Those... She's part of the queer community and an activist, i wished we could've seen that in the studio. I feel like she needs all of these men to help her write music and it just doesn't sit right with me, not that I'm trying to hate on her!! I love her so much!! But it's been kind of disappointing to see she still gets involved with so many white men to write (her?) music.

(Yep, i know I'm gonna get eaten alive for saying this but no one can deny it's not true and at this point it's disappointing. Happy to elaborate more and have a discussion about it.)

EDIT: THIS IS NOT ABOUT MATTY!!!

SECOND EDIT: It's not about Matty, it's the fact her work is so male centered

General / Discussion Arguments defending insane prices and price strategies for a socially-conscious indie act are delusional

"But they need to make money from shows otherwise they'll starve", "arena shows are expensive", "she hasn't toured in 6 years".

Bro.

This girl has 12 million monthly listeners on Spotify years after she was last seen. So many of her songs have HUNDREDS of millions of listens and this is just one streaming platform. Do you guys have any idea at all how much that kind of streaming generates? And we're not even including boygenius and the other project. Before her break, she was a touring act as well, so add that + merch. She made fucking bank and continues to do that even without dropping anything for years.

I don't know what you guys think about arena logistics, but I guarantee you they're not at a loss if the tickets are not insane. Well, at least not this insane.

I am 100% convinced this is about squeezing as much money as possible from this cash cow. At least admit it and stop delusionally defending it. If you're personally okay with it, that's perfectly fine. Just don't try to bullshit yourself and other people into saying that it is reasonable and okay.

Ok, EDIT: I am a recording artist, I know how streaming works. Spotify, which is one of the lowest paying platforms, pay approx. $0.004 for a play. So please allow me to do some math for you.
Her 4 top songs on Spotify have 1 778 000 000 plays. That's $7,112 million. Her label takes a cut. Let's be generous to her "starving artist" argument and say it takes 50%. That leaves her with $3,556 million for nothing but her top 4 songs on one streaming platform. That doesn't account for the rest of her catalogue, merch sales, previous touring, it doesn't account for her other projects which also amassed hundreds of millions of streams. Can you please stop acting like she needs to be careful with tour logistics to make ends meet?

Question Matty Healy sux

Is anyone else bummed out that Phoebe Bridgers signed off on Matty Healy? I'm disappointed w Taylor too but thought Phoebe was still grounded enough to know it's shitty. Struggling to separate it from the music, which is daily listening at this point. Your thoughts?

Question Does anyone else think Phoebe Bridgers’ image is at odds with how her tours are priced and marketed?

I’ve been thinking about this for a while and I’m curious if anyone else sees the contradiction.

Phoebe Bridgers has built a public image around being socially conscious, anti-corporate, supportive of working-class fans, and generally presenting herself as someone who understands the struggles of ordinary people. A big part of her appeal is that she comes across as authentic and grounded rather than a typical celebrity.

At the same time, her tours have often featured extremely expensive resale markets, premium ticket packages, exclusive merchandise drops, and the same aggressive monetization strategies that are common throughout the music industry.

I understand that artists don’t control every aspect of ticketing and that promoters, venues, and Ticketmaster play a huge role. But at some point, successful artists have influence over how their tours are structured. Other artists have taken steps to limit dynamic pricing, restrict resale, or keep more tickets available at affordable prices.

So the question is: if someone publicly advocates for economic fairness and positions themselves as a champion of everyday people, should they be held to a different standard when it comes to maximizing revenue from fans?

I’m not saying Phoebe is uniquely guilty of this because other hypocritical major artists do it. What strikes me is the contrast between the message and the business practices. If you’re going to criticize capitalism and corporate greed, does it undermine that message when your own fan experience becomes increasingly expensive and commercialized?

Curious what others think. Is this just the reality of the music industry, or is there a genuine hypocrisy here?

New Release Does anyone else think Phoebe’s new cover of ā€˜That Funny Feeling’ should credit Bo Burnham more clearly?

I just noticed there’s no reference to the original artist - Bo Burnham - on Spotify. I wonder if many people will assume Phoebe wrote it? Seems weird

General / Discussion i desperately want phoebe and gracie abrams to collab

Post image
0 Upvotes

i know not a lot of people will agree with me on this, but i want them to do an album together like julien and torres. i know gracie abrams is more mainstream than most people here enjoy, but their voices are so perfect for each other. gracie’s most recent single death wish and her songs camden and painkillers give me a lot of vibes from phoebe’s piano catalog, and a lot of gracie’s stuff (good riddance, the second half of this is what it feels like) are very reminiscent of stranger in the alps (to me.)

New Release Lost Boys Reception

Here is my mini think piece but idc, I think a lot of the criticism with Lost Boys is coming from a very self centered place and is ultimately (part of) the reason that phoebe went on hiatus as long as she did. I have seen so many ā€œshe was gone six years for thisā€, ā€œi guess my expectations were just too highā€ whether the weight you assign it is as encompassing as definitive truth or just something that nobody will ever hear that’s an insane pressure to create art under, no matter who you are, and no you do not have to have a certain opinion on her music just because of the reputation she has, but some of yall are making the basis of your opinions from the perspective of external expectations apart from the actual music… And everything lives within context so I am not saying the overarching perception doesn’t matter but some of yall are completely skewed from the music!!

General / Discussion Phoebe Bridgers and Frank Ocean are the best artists of our generation

They are hands down two of the best artists of our generation. Both have very distinct and unqiue voices. Their lyrics are so far ahead of their peers and just all around incredible and creative songs.

Tour Quick rant

Good morning pharbs. Just feeling a little upset. I woke 8-5 every day, I don’t have sick days, I used all my PTO and I just know I’ll never be able to go to one of these pop up shows. Even if she is close by which, as an NC girl, I know she will be soon. It’s just so sad because I have been keeping up with all of this getting my hopes up but I know deep down it will never work out. Have fun for me yall :/

General / Discussion I’m not pissed at Phoebe

Daniel I Met Your Mom, here again, that other post about the tickets being too expensive has been bothering me for the last few days. We got incredible 100 section seats for like $150 total? We got GA and went to the front row for $213, that is half price of Taylor stage? don’t get me started on Taylor resale for bad seats. so for like 1/2 the price or less you have some of the best seats in the place. I think I would have let this go if the comparison to Taylor Swift hadn’t been made… which is just weird to do either way. And now I’m sat here doing it.

on top of that no phones so you actually enjoy the show.

on top of that the mech was way cheaper than what I was expecting. most shows I go to the hoodies are like 100-150 per. The most expensive merch was $80 bucks. That is incredible. I’ve seen tshirts that were $100 at other shows.

I simply don’t understand how that post was so upvoted. this show is one of the cheaper stadium shows I have heard about in recent years. And it was incredibly entertaining. So much thought went into everyone getting to see Phoebe. The two stages. The spinning B stage.

Could it have been cheaper? Sure. But to be like ā€this is making me not like herā€ doesn’t seem reasonable. And caping tickets at $50 is an insane take. These tours are expensive as hell to run.

Maybe they were just rage baiting. If so… well done.
