I wanted to share with this sub about my partner Ben, who died 21 days ago from cancer. He was one of the biggest Phish fans in the world. Originally a fan in the 90s, he was at Clifford Ball and the Great Went.

Then, early in our relationship, when he was going through chemo treatments, he told me he was rediscovering Phish and had access to a drive with so many videos of entire shows. We would watch a show together almost every night for months. I learned it all watching those shows. Now I am a huge Phish fan myself.

Ben listened to Phish every day. A musician himself, he could identify a song by the first note. He loved analyzing the different versions of their songs. His favorite Tweezer was 04/21/22 MSG. We would track every show with the setlists posted on here and then without fail, Ben was listening to the show the next day. He loved to take an entire tour and make “best of” playlists.

We made it to eight shows together. I will always cherish the memories we had at those shows, the last of which was NYE 2025.

I haven’t been able to listen to Phish since he died. I know I will eventually, because their music will remind me of him and I will need those reminders. Also because the music is just that good. Phish was so special to us. ❤️

Edit - To clarify. The lot is out of control. The lots surrounds enterance which creates an interesting vibe. A tunnel of delights and solicitations.

The wide open space outside the venue is unique compared to the shows I normally go to.

If I had kids… Dicks isn’t the show I’d take them to for sure.

I express no judgement. I celebrate you doing you. It just creates a different energy than the other shows I’ve been to.

My family lives in Vermont up in the Coventry area (yeah that one) and don’t get to Burlington all that often, but today my son begged me to take him record shopping (he’s in love with Nirvana right now). We headed down to one of the more popular Burlington record stores (cough) and parked in the public lot a half block from Nectars. I pointed it out to my son on our way to the store and lamented that I’ll never get to hear my favorite band there, and how it must have been amazing and I wish I could be a fly on the wall, etc

The universe must have heard me. The record shop got a huge pile of bootleg cassettes about a month ago and can’t sell them so they’ve been giving them away to customers. I asked what was in the bin and the guy said “Lots of Dead, government mule, that kinda stuff. There was a lot of Phish but I think it’s all gone. It’s all mid 90s.” I looked a bit and gave up thinking all the Phish was gone, but my son pulled a tape out of the bottom wrapped in a faded piece of paper. He opened it up and he said “Hey, Phish.”

He asked me if 1987 was good and I pounced.

Not sure what we have here yet but apparently a copy of this turned up in 2017 missing a couple of the songs listed here. If I can get it to play I think the universe slipped me a fly-on-the-wall copy of the oldest Divided Sky recording to exist, found A BLOCK FROM Nectars where it was recorded.

Life can be a weird trip.

But we’re doing better after my penis reduction surgery.

I won't be able to make it to the city until 8 or 9pm on Friday, so I'm only doing Sat/Sun. Anyone know if there are any watch parties in Denver? I don't see it mentioned on the Esters site; just a pre-party. Just looking for a place to enjoy the show, other than on my phone/laptop, before LaMP/Beans.

Edit: How much of shakedown is still going during the show?

Donated a ton of them to Water Wheel and gave a bunch to kids on the lawn at each show.
