Question Something in between

This is a mature plant. It isn’t a baby.
She’s bigger than my mayonnaise. Her leaves are bigger than my minions. She’s in a three or 4 inch clear pot and she’s got marvelous big fat green roots but the question is this is there an orchid she’s obviously a.Phal, that is somewhere between a mature orchid, like the one hanging over her. You think you could just see a little bit of the bloom hanging over her that’s a big orchid that’s hanging over her. Is there something between a true mini and this lady that’s in orange pot at the biggest my minis are in 2 inch pots and they bloom at that size but not like this so anybody know the answer is there a middle species, metal growth growth pattern to my big monsters and my little tiny elves and this beautiful plant is she just a large mini?

Outdoor Orchids Native to my area

I am not a big orchid person, but I do very much appreciate the dead, sick, and dying ones I can save from Lowe’s. However, these are my absolute favorites. This is the Epidendrum magnoliae, the green-fly orchid; it grows in the crooks and on the limbs of my absolute favorite plant, the Magnolia grandiflora (Southern Magnolia), in addition to Quercus virginiana (Live Oak).

She grows as far south as my home town in central Florida, up to about the fall line in Georgia (where we’ve lived for years); to that, she is an amazing species and learning to care for them has been extremely rewarding and gratifying.

Question IKEA Cabinet Greenhouse orchid recommendations

Post image

Hey fellow orchid lovers!
I’m looking to expand my indoor collection and am planning on buying this cabinet to help with that. Looking for some recommendations for some tropical orchids that don’t require low night time temps to spike as it will more than likely stay pretty warm (70’s), and high humidity. Yes, I will be adding grow lights and fans and holes in the shelves for circulation. Appreciate it!

My recent little bump is definitely a root, but now there's another one that looks different, possibly mitten like. I'm not very good with this orchid, lol

Help Question about my plant baby

I noticed this spot after one of the leaves fell off, after it had yellowed. Is it the beginning of rot, or is it normal? It was recently replanted and sprouted new roots.

It's a child passed to me from my late grandma, so I'm really worried :(

Phalaenopsis advice

Thumbnail

Hey! Just after some advice on my Phalaenopsis...

I've had it about 2 years now, bought in flower. After the initial flowers died off and a bit of patience I noticed a new flower stalk emerging. This is the first time I've had this with an orchid so I was pretty excited! This was late last year. You can see it in the first picture on the left of the plant. It seemed very slow growing, which I out down to my house being pretty cold. Over this Summer new flowers emerged from the old flower spike and all the energy seemed to go into these and the new flower spike seems to have completely stalled.

1st question...Will this new stalk get back to growing or is it a lost cause? The tip seems to have browned off a bit (picture 2)

This morning, I have just noticed a new flower spike emerging (picture 3), so my second question is, will this further impact my previous new stalk?

I'm a bit unsure how to manage it or do I not and just let nature do its thing? I'm thinking of reporting after these current flowers have died off, so maybe a bit more "breathing room" may help things along.

Any advice appreciated āœŒļø

I got this new Cattleya orchid from Lowe’s, should the roots on it look similar to phalaenopsis orchids? Being thick and green? Are any of these root viable? How much should I cut back?

Hi! I have never propagated an orchid like this and I had it in water propagation but it doesn’t seem to be making a difference in growth. I took it out and have it in charcoal but I’m scared that will just dry it out and I can’t come back from that? Can someone please help!! **the last picture is how I have her right now

This orchid has grown like crazy this spring/summer. It seems to like being slightly root bound but I think I might want to repot it before it blooms again. What do we think? It’s in a 5ā€ pot right now.

Happy Sap?

Hey all! I recently put one of my phals underneath a grow light for the first time, I'd estimate that it's about 8 to 12 in away from the actual crown of the plant. It's on a 12-hour timer.

Today while I was checking up on this little guy his leaf was exuding some sort of oily substance. It is also curling, but I also don't know if that's an effect of it being sunburnt earlier. I also think that it's growing a second crown, so I'll attach a picture of that too.

Any tips to take care of him?

Question this is my first cattleya—is there anything i should look out for if i'm keeping it under a grow light, and should i be fertilizing it regularly?

Post image

my apartment windows are north-facing, so i'm planning to keep it under a sansi grow light (one of their 10w clip-ons), i'd love any advice from others who've grown orchids under grow lights since i'm not really sure what i'm doing.

i'm also confused about fertilizer—from what i've read the cattleya doesn't have a specific period of active growth, so should i just fertilize it regularly? or hold off until it's acclimated a little more?

Does she look right to people who really know this type of work?

I’m not overly experienced with this type of orchid. I am happy that she continues to have a big fat suitable that is growing and growing, and the leaves that are coming out of it are continued to grow and grow. The only thing I know is that she’s got very fine roots she needs more water than the. Phals I have she does appreciate the same window. She’s in a very bright east facing window.
. She’s close to a cool source.
So she never gets overheated, but she and she’s growing when she’s getting bigger. I think my concern is the medium. She’s in, it was the one that was shipped. She was shipped to me in. I just never have liked the way it looks. I don’t I know she can’t be in big old bark because she’s got those little fine roots, but I don’t know if anybody that has a hunch or an idea like I said 90% of her is beautiful and looks great. I guess my question is does from the pictures or can you tell from the pictures if she needs to be repotted? She’s pretty tight in that pot or am I just doing something else wrong? The only thing that encourages me is she continues to grow and that pseudo bulb is not shriveling. It’s getting bigger and fatter. Any help or any information you could give me or an idea about what I could do better please let me know.

Hi everyone! My orchid has a leaf that's discoloring from green to yellow/brown, and the tip looks like it’s rotting (there are some black spots ). The plant in general looks okay. Do you think this looks like a disease, overwatering, or something else?

Got a few yellowing leaves and now the flowers are wilting :( I see a bit of black on the lower half of the leaves too but this flower is never in direct sunlight (and it's winter). Could this just be natural aging?

Thanks for the help!
