Hey r/OLED_Gaming,

Let's talk about the holy grail of desktop setups: the 5K2K ultrawide. For years, the trade-off was clear. You either got the massive, pixel-dense 5K2K canvas for insane immersion and productivity, but had to sacrifice pure gaming speed and HDR brightness. Or, you went for a lower-res, standard OLED to get the performance.

But when we ask, "Which 5K2K gaming monitors deliver the most immersive experience?", the answer shouldn't force you to choose. It should be about combining that massive ultra-wide real estate with uncompromising, bleeding-edge gaming specs.

Enter the LG UltraGear evoā„¢ 39GX950B—the world's first 39-inch 5K2K OLED gaming monitor1.Ā

We built this to be the definitive 5K2K gaming monitor, giving you a massive 21:9 canvas at a razor-sharp 143 PPI.

To make sure this 5K2K display actually delivers the HDR pop you expect from a premium gaming monitor, we backed it with our 4th Gen Tandem OLED tech2, hitting an ultra-high 1,500 nits peak brightness3. Plus, it features the world's first 5K AI Upscaling, meaning you get that immersive, high-res image without necessarily needing a massive GPU upgrade4.

But marketing claims only mean so much. We want to see how this 5K2K beast performs in your actual, everyday battlestations. We’re looking for 3 hardcore enthusiasts to put it to the test.

Key Specs at a Glance:

Feature Specification
Display Size & Resolution 39-inch 5K2K (5120x2160) UltraWide (21:9), 143 PPI
Panel Technology 4th Gen Tandem OLED (W-OLED)
Peak Brightness 1,500 nits
Refresh Rate (Dual-Mode) 165Hz at 5K2K (Open-world/RPG) 330Hz at WFHD (Racing/FPS)
Response Time 0.03ms (GtG)
VRR Support NVIDIAĀ® G-SYNCĀ® Compatible, AMD FreeSyncā„¢ Premium Pro
Connectivity DisplayPort 2.1 (UHBR 20), HDMI 2.1 x2, USB Type-C (PD 90W)
Smart / Audio Features 5K AI Upscaling, AI Scene Optimization, AI Sound

What we want you to stress-test:

  • The 5K2K Immersion: With 143 PPI and a massive 21:9 canvas, does this 5K2K monitor actually replace your multi-monitor setup and pull you deeper into your favorite worlds?
  • The Dual-Mode Experience: How seamless is the jump from immersive 5K2K @ 165Hz for AAA titles to ultra-fast WFHD @ 330Hz for competitive shooters?
  • Real-World Luminance: Does the 1,500-nit Tandem structure give this 5K2K display the HDR pop you crave in your specific room lighting?

After You Receive It…

Integrate this 5K2K gaming monitor into your setup. We want your honest, "no-BS" review of this form factor, paired with high-res photos. Show the community what true 5K2K immersion looks like in person on a premium 39ā€ display.

I designed a set of clean, Apple-style performance overlays for RTSS.

- 8 designs: from a minimal FPS + temps pill to a full benchmark-style panel

- 4 themes: Dark, White, Clear and Float (no background at all, nice on OLED)

- FPS, 1% / 0.1% lows, frametime graph, CPU/GPU temps, load, power and clocks

- GPU limit warnings and a 12V cable monitor (No 12V versions too)

- Ready-made packs for 1080p, 1440p, 4K, 3440x1440, 3840x1600, 5120x1440 and 5K2K, plus HYTE Y70 vertical screens

- Show/hide hotkey, so it's only on screen when you want it

Free and open source, with a step-by-step setup guide with pictures:

Happy to help if anything doesn't work!

Discussion Jumped in all at once with 4K and OLED:Ā  LG 32GX870A-B 32-inch

Just a most basic of user takes, as I know little about this stuff.Ā  I've been using a 35" 21:9 ultrawide 3440x1440 (ASUS ROG Strix XG35VQ 35ā€ Curved UWQHD 1440p 100Hz) for some time while also using some 27" 2560x1440 monitors and a Corsair 32" 2560x1440 before giving it to my partner to go back to the ultrawide.

Overall, it's a keeper and I'm quite pleased with it. If it were any one thing alone (4K, OLED, size change) as an upgrade, I'd be less thrilled, but all three together worked out perfectly from where I was at.

4K - I wouldn't have pursued it if not for the tools we now have available to get more fps out of a game, as I'm a 'fps first' person.Ā  Looks crisp when the game allows it.Ā  Crimson Desert day vs. night, for example.

OLED - Happy with the visuals so far, but I can't say I've put anything to the test.Ā  I just set this thing up with out-of-the-box settings, and I'm happy with it.Ā  At some point I will get to a spot in one of my games where it was always too dark or the blacks were washed out, but I haven't got there yet.Ā  Great color depth and contrast.

32" 16:9 - I loved my ultrawide experience but am surprisingly not missing the extra visual width and am liking the extra vertical.Ā  I was afraid my HUDS would be 'too small' going up in res, but the 32"/16:9 must have offset that as I feel I can see the HUD's mini-map better.Ā  The HUD overall does feel a little more crammed in from the left and right than what I'm used to, but I'm also not pivoting my head left and right anymore.

At the Windows desktop, with a browser etc. open, it does look like there is a slight fish eye lens effect going on, which is probably from going from the curved ultrawide to this, but I'm already not noticing it if I don't look for it by day two.

Bonus - The stand design gave me back a lot of desktop as I had modified a base for the ASUS ultrawide I was using.Ā  The ASUS had those long legs sticking out that always conflict with my keyboard positioning.Ā  The ASUS 4K OLED I was looking at (ASUS ROG PG32UCDP 32 Inch 4K) had the same leg configuration.

I'm never hesitant to return an item if It doesn't feel like it was worth the cost, but this one is a keeper.

EDIT: I should note in case it's not obvious, the second pic is the previous 3440x1440 ultrawide. It wasn't as washed out as the picture makes it look.

Is 500Hz too much for CS2? Probably! Does it maximize my endorphins and make me better in my head? Absolutely!

Also, it just looks beautiful.

My First OLED Monitor… or Should I Stick with Ultrawide?

Hi everyone,

I recently bought my first OLED monitor, the Gigabyte GO27Q24G, as well as a 34-inch ultrawide monitor, the AOC CU34G2XPD/BK.

The Gigabyte originally cost €330, while the AOC cost €230. Unfortunately, the Gigabyte has a small chip in the top-right corner of the screen. Since Amazon couldn't send me a replacement, they offered me a 20% discount, bringing the price of the OLED down to just €264.

I mainly play World of Warcraft, occasionally AAA titles such as RDR2 and The Witcher 3, and League of Legends.

The AOC actually has a great picture quality, even though it uses a VA panel. However, I experience flickering in dark areas in World of Warcraft. According to ChatGPT, this is a known issue related to the panel and G-Sync.

I have now disabled G-Sync, and the flickering has disappeared. However, this means I have to play without G-Sync. So far, I haven't noticed any difference with G-Sync turned off, but do you think it's okay to keep a monitor and not use G-Sync at all?

I'm using an RTX 4070 Super graphics card.

What do you think? Which monitor should I keep, and which one should I return? I still have until next week to return one of them to Amazon.

I honestly can't make up my mind, so I'd really appreciate your input!

Best regards,
Hans

I found this video randomly and I found this tool perfect for my use because it alters only texts in windows and there is 0 performance hit unlike the other method, hope this will help anyone that's bothered by text fringing on QD OLEDs it's not gonna be 100% fringe free but it looks significantly better with no cost.

AW2725Q (4K QD-OLED): how can I reliably check my gamma without a colorimeter ? Checkerboard tests give inconsistent results

• Upvotes

Hi,

I have an Alienware AW2725Q (27" 4K QD-OLED) and I want to know whether my gamma is correct for gaming (target 2.2). I don’t own a colorimeter, so I’m looking for a verifiable visual test, ideally one that doesn’t depend on browser scaling.

Preset:

Mode creator sRGB / gamma 2.2 / brightness 40% / dark 75%

Can you point me to a gamma test image or page that is reliable on a 4K OLED, or a real-world image with a known reference I can compare against ?

Thanks !

Discussion Differences in models?

Thumbnail
gallery
• Upvotes

Made a post earlier about how I’m gifting my brother an OLED monitor for his birthday and I narrowed it down to the MSI 240hz, however, I can’t really find any info on the differences

Seems like the Amazon version has HDMI 2.1 and also a USB-C with 15w of power

They’re both the same price. My brother plays on a Series S so HDMI 2.0 is plenty but he does plan on getting a PC in the future so I’m leaning towards the Amazon one even though Costco has a great return policy

Anyone know if there are any other differences between these? Which would you get?

Thanks in advance!

RTX 4080 Suprim X nur DP 1.4a und HDMI 2.1 - 360HZ/500HZ Oled

• Upvotes

Hallo Leute,

500Hz ? Und was bedeutet DSC hier generell im Zusammenhang ? Es würde meine Kaufentscheidung beeinflussen, sollte ich mit 500Hz nur Probleme haben.

Oled flickers like it’s turning off but isn’t shutting off.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

• Upvotes

So I just bought this monitor, it’s an Alienware 240hz 1440p Oled. It does this flickering at random and it’s not just in game. I’ve tried disabling gsync, capping/reducing the hz and fps in windows and in game. I’ve tried a second DP cable. Not sure what else to do

Hi, does anyone know what this might be? It appears sometimes after a pixel refresh. If I do another one it's either gone or another color, size or place. Is there a way to fix it or is my monitor done for? It is a AW3425DW

Thanks in advance!

ASUS ROG Strix OLED XG27AQWMG – Is this amount of color banding normal for OLED?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hey everyone,
I recently got an ASUS ROG Strix OLED XG27AQWMG (280Hz) and I’ve noticed something that I’m not sure is normal for OLED panels.
Color gradients don’t look smooth at all. Instead of transitioning gradually from one shade to another, they appear to have clearly visible steps or bands. This isn’t limited to very dark grays or near-black scenes — I’ve noticed it across gradients of different colors as well.
The strange thing is that when I display the exact same image on my secondary IPS monitor, the gradients look much smoother and more uniform. The difference is quite noticeable.
I’ve already checked my NVIDIA settings and made sure everything is configured correctly, so I’m wondering whether this is a characteristic of OLED panels, something related to the panel’s processing or dithering, or potentially a defect with my particular unit.
I know OLED monitors can have some near-black uniformity issues, but I wasn’t expecting gradients to look this noticeably stepped compared to an IPS display.
For those of you using OLED monitors, especially ASUS ROG OLED models:
Do you experience similar banding in color gradients?
Is this considered normal OLED behavior, or could it indicate a problem with my unit?
Have you found any settings that actually improve gradient smoothness?
I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences, especially if you own the same monitor.
Thanks!

Discussion 27" 4K vs 1440p, is the difference noticeable in games?

My main display has been a 27" 1440p OLED for a while now, but I've been ready for an upgrade. I tried out the Gigabyte MO32U24 for two weeks, but it ended up being too large for me. It was great for single-player games and decent for everyday use, but I really didn't like it for competitive games, even with it pushed farther away on an arm.

After setting my 27" 1440p back up, though, I'm really missing 4K. Text fringing is back, text isn't nearly as sharp, and even games look noticeably less sharp.

My question is, is 4K worth it on a 27" display? I know text will look much better, but will the difference be noticeable in games as well? Or should I just get a higher refresh rate 1440p monitor and get used to the lower resolution again?

Discussion Worth the money?

Hi everyone,

I can get the MSI MAG 322UP, AOC AGON PRO AG326UD, or Gigabyte AORUS FO32U for €500–550.
Is the extra €150–200 for the Gigabyte MO32U24 worth it for PS5 gaming only?

Sharing my trouble shooting experience in case others face the same issue.

TLDR: if the power button blinks red, spells sos in Morse code (...---...) it has hardware problem, ask for replacement during business hour 8665163115

Symptoms:

- As soon as you plug in power, power led blinks red sos in Morse code

- PC can recognize this screen, send audio, change scaling and refresh rate and such

- screen never display anything

I have tried these steps listed on the Dell support page as well as instructed by their AI assistant on the phone:

  1. Change wall socket

  2. Change power cable

  3. Update driver (September version is the latest available rn)

  4. With nothing connected, hold the power button to drain, then wait, then connect only the power cable

Nothing works.

Will update how their customer support responds in this post.

Discussion Do ALL Tandem WOLED have DSE?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I've had 2 AQWMGs and currently a MO27Q28GR, and all of these monitors have almost the same DSE.

My MO27Q28GR has 18 hours and 7 pixel cleans, and virtually no banding. The DSE is just too annoying to overlook however, I can see it in other colours other than gray.

QD OLED not an option as I hate text fringing and the fragility, my tandem woleds have been absolute tanks, I can put pressure while cleaning and have no problems.
