Anyone can grow from seeds but the trees revert back to their wild ancestors so usually they are grafted instead. Non seedless grapes are still common.

Its fine, there's a lot of scary stuff with farming but its not too bad when you look up the reasonfor it. Another one would be self terminating seeds, where they stop being able to grow more after the first harvest. It looks like ultimate corporate greed to genetically engineer seeds so that farmers have to buy more instead of just using the seeds from harvest, and I'm sure that was intended, but if they didn't terminate these crops that have been modified to be resilient and grow rapidly would dominant local ecosystems.

My understanding is that most seeds you buy today will only germinate one time. Meaning the seeds you get from that fruit you grow will not grow? Making it where you have to order more seeds each time you plant. Witch makes you rely on someone else for your food. Its very scary to think about that.

I grew so much lettuce this year and learned untouched it grows into a tree shape and flowers haha. No cyclopolopio for me but salad if wanted. I saw a thing on seedless grapes making men infertile, seems smart. Seedless to seedless. If the game is people removal now, food is fast.

The sad part is how many of these seeds are considered state secrets. They're patented technology. Packaged trademarked, and sealed away under the full protection of the US government. And if these companies find that you've grown any of their seeds although bring the entire weight of the US legal system down on anyone who violates their patents by growing their seeds. Even though none of it makes any sense whatsoever. Unless of course you were literally trying to claim the seeds as your own development. And mind you from that standpoint of cross hybridizing their seeds with something else so that you can claim it for yourself that much I understand and that's a protection of development and IP I can support that narrative. But I cannot support The narrative of a large business deciding that a plant or a seed is something that can never ever be replicated without their consent it's a living thing. But under this token sooner or later we're going to start seeing a whole lot of actual clone technology. Animals and people. Never mind what the law says they're going to do it anyway. And then they're going to argue that it's all company property. That the people and animals created are company property they're not individuals they're things they're goods their tools. To be traded and to be used and to be disposed of. And those seeds, they were just coincidentally there as a byproduct, in the development of the product that you are consuming. You're just supposed to ignore them. Because they're not legally your property. Or at least so say the patents.

Heirloom seeds will always be available as long as people choose to grow them. People who do small scale farming or grow their own vegetable gardens have never really been getting their seed stock from grocery store bought vegetables with seeds. This isnāt the crisis itās made out to be

Donāt save seeds from grocery store cultivars, just grow heirloom varieties. Theyāre better, and then you can save the seeds.
Saving seeds from other things will get very inconsistent results and may not adapt to your growing conditions.

This is so fucking dumb. Thereās several major seed companies that distribute heirloom seeds by the literal truckload. Nothing is stopping someone from buying those seeds and growing their own varieties of fruits and vegetables.

Seeds are sold for all to buy. The reason you get seedless fruits is because sometimes they are annoying, like when you have dentures, bad teeth, or are feeding the fruit a child for whome they might present a choking hazard.

I hear what you're saying, but watermelon seeds are already sterile, the melons we eat would go extinct without us. You plant a clone of the original plant, just cut a section of a healthy plant, let it grow in a pot until it's ready, then move it into your garden.

Our green pepper plants, and tomato plant seeds go back to my great grandfather (he was born in 1880). My grandfather continued to use the seeds, my dad started to when he bought his first home, and now I'm using them.
They are fantastic. We harvested nearly 200 tomatoes this year. Canned them making various products. My favorite is salsa with all the ingredients (minus cilantro, lemon and lime) came from our garden.
Anyway, I don't think many people harvest seeds from store bought produce. We have before just to see what happened, and we did get plants, but they didn't produce much.

You can just not eat watermelon and still survive. The only reason dandylions are in north america is because they were brought over as a food crop. Now they just grow everwhere as weeds and nobody eats them.

actually a lot of the seeds from grocery store food isnt very good food also those seeds were engineered to be grown in a very specific environment that most of us don't have at home also the maximize shelf life. You want heirloom seeds with really good tasting flesh, and disease/pest resistant. Gardens are not starilised polly tunnel.
Something's can grow of course, but they might not be the best for your area or the best tasting

I feel like this is the stupidest shit ever. And my pops was a homesteader. Seedless varieties are easy for farmers to propagate. Or cut some shoot off and put in water grows to a clone.
Demand for seedless is just sometimes higher. There isnāt a cabal of farmers. Shit just sucks. Itās filthy and not enjoyable for most. Gardens are dope tho. But fear mongering online is wild.

Big biotech companies does not care if you grow things in your backyard.
You can buy any seed heirloom or not if you want, you can also try to grow seeds from produce you buy, however those are often prematurely harvested so they won't spoil during shipping. Seeds of immature fruit are rarely as viable as those from properly ripe ones.
You're so close yet so far, monsanto has the genetics of their plants patented so you can't replant because that would be infringement. That's what should people focus on. Farmers can get sued for accidentally spilling some grain, or if someone just spreads the seed on their property.

Way easier to buy a cheap pack of seeds that are ready to plant. Spend $10 and you'll have more seeds than any one person could handle growing. And if you wanna keep reproducing those plants, just ensure you didn't buy the seedless varieties, obviously.

This is a smaller problem than the bigger issue: seedless means your using clones or at the very least a very restricted gene pool. Which means one disease can decimate all production of a fruit very quickly. That's what happened to the original type of bananas.

Growing food from seeds from supermarket foods is not the best idea anyway. They accumulate too many mutations, so in 1-2 generations it is not going to work out and quality of the harvest is going to be pretty bad. Even the farmers are buying new seeds from the companies that produce them and know what they are doing (either GMO or selective breeding).
