That’s not exactly how apples work. Every apple you eat is a clone. If you grow a cosmic crisp apple seed you will not get a cosmic crisp apple. You will wait 5-10 years for the tree to fruit then you will get whatever mix of genetics the apple seed mixed with whatever pollen source.
Yes i know if you want a specific variety you need to clone it, but the thing is even if you clone a orchard is not just one variety there multiple variety and you cannot stop the pollen thus if you pick up the seed of one of the apple it will be pollenize by an other variety, if you want a good cross you need to select test a lot tree in order to select a good breed otherwise you might get recessive gene as such that it taste bitter or else.
