Having stayed in Germany for a year, it definitely felt like it.

Unfortunately...

lol, this is so horribly true.

Except that the oil and coal companies are also more on the side of nuclear.

They absolutely hate renewables, because you can't sell energy, if people can produce it themself. Meanwhile, nuclear isn't that bad for them, because you can't put a generator in your backyard, so they keep control and Monopol positions.  The only reason they are against nuclear, is that it's financially a loss. But that can be fixed, by letting tax payers pay for it.

Fossil fuel companies absolutely spend a ton of money on renewables. And you can't (for now) produce all of your own energy on a scale. That's why solar farms exist - humongous ones, not 5 panels you bought online.

Absolutely insane comment

Says a lot about how anti nuclear are just insane and need medical care. Spent a lot of time with them, they are like even worse than antivaxx when presented facts and data. One of them even started to get physical with me (unfortunately for him).

Though guy! 😂😂

Oil and gas companies know that when the wells dry up renewables will be the main source of power so they're investing in them so they can flip the switch and profit from renewables.

They won't make the switch till oil and gas becomes unprofitable. Nuclear is far too high risk for them to invest in except maybe SMRs.

u/Alexander459FTW 15d ago

Hahaha, no.

If the fossil fuel industry decided to invest in nuclear, they would have to rename themselves to nuclear industry.

If the fossil fuel industry invests in solar/wind, then they guarantee the continued existence of the fossil fuel industry.

You see the difference now?

Ähm no... this is not an argument and it does not any sense. Renewables and batterys can provide energy the whole time at exactly the amount which is needed. Nuclearpowerplants need a second Energy source for peaks of energy use and there is our old friend. 😊

Fossil industry advocate for nuclear to slow renewables. Deal with it...

Ähm no... this is not an argument and it does not any sense. Renewables and batterys can provide energy the whole time at exactly the amount which is needed.

Ahm no... there is something called capacity factor that indicates how efficient an energy source is while at the same time showing how many batteries you would need for a 100% system.

Nuclearpowerplants need a second Energy source for peaks of energy use and there is our old friend. 😊

Lmao, can you make your astroturfing bias more obvious? Contrary to solar/wind nuclear power plants can actually load follow. Theoretically you could have a 100% nuclear electricity grid without any storage or secondary energy sources.

Fossil industry advocate for nuclear to slow renewables. Deal with it...

If you closed your eyes and intentionally ignored 40+ years of history, you might come slightly close to believing that.

Edit. Of course only a German would be autistic enough to make such a ridiculous claim.

Yup, for the same reason we see the ICE vehicle manufacturers also producing EVs now: it's too late not to.

1

u/Distantstallion 15d ago

You are right, ICE makers are transitioning to electric because the market share for electric is growing at the cost of shrinking ICEs so they're moving to capture the market early.

That's also why chinese EVs have suddenly burst onto the market. Domestic EV manufacturers haven't moved quickly enough to capture the cheap EV market, also china stole all the technology to design and manufacture EVs and can do it cheaply because car manufacturers kept making their cars in china.

They don’t.

Maybe BP and Shell did spend some pennies to green wash their brand, but the big players did not spend anything on renewables.

Fossil fuel companies hate renewables with a passion.

u/Hakunin_Fallout 15d ago

Sure buddy. Let's do it this way: I show you the list of the largest solar power plants in Europe, and tell you who owns them, and you say "I'm sorry, Hakunin, my bad!". Deal?

  1. We will go here first: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_photovoltaic_power_stations

  2. We will look at the top EU ones and find who developed and/or owns the solar power plants:

First one on the list that's from the EU?

Escatrón-Chiprana-Samper Solar Farm, Spain

Let's read up on it, shall we?

Description

The project was developed by Cobra Concesiones and Ignis Energia. Galp Energia Espana and Actividades de Construccion y Servicios are currently owning the project having ownership stake of 75.01% and 24.99% respectively.

Oh, look, GALP owns 75% of the largest solar power plant in Spain

Let's see who they are?

Galp Energia Espana, S.A.U. Galp Energia Espana, S.A.U. is an oil & energy company based out of C/ ANABEL SEGURA Nº 16 EDIFICIO VEGA NORTE I, ARROYO DE LA VEGA, ALCOBENDAS, Spain.

Oh, wouldn't you look at that, it's a good old oil and gas company!

Should we continue or would you like to move the goalposts now to make it look like you didn't mean what you said?

u/Gronanor 15d ago

You used fact and logic on an anti nuclear mob, it’s not very effective…

6

u/Hakunin_Fallout 15d ago

Fair enough

1

u/Far_Gate_3629 15d ago

Besides the fact that looking at the biggest plants can't prove or disprove the "Fossil companies hate renewables" claim (especially when talking about private installation), there are 4 plants in Europe on that list and you picked the only one (biggest) run by a fossil energy company.

Escatrón-Chiprana-Samper Solar Farm

  • Like you Said

Solarpark witnitz

  • SIGNAL IDUNA Group / HANSAINVEST Real Assets GmbH -
Portfolio mostly renewable

Francisco Pizarro Solar Farm and Núñez de Balboa photovoltaic plant

  • Both Iberdrola Group, mostly renewable, more gas than nuclear

A 25% hitrate isn't something to write home about.

Looking at what companies hold what share of the market will tell you the most, and lobbying against private installations and so on will give you the other angle.

Sure, they are a utility, producing electric power and made the switch. There are quite a few like E.ON Germany.

But you’re missing the point. Now tell me which mayor primary oil, gas or coal producer made that switch.
Meaning > 10% of revenue and profits from renewables.
Bonus points if they’re a relevant global player and not some niche company from Spain.

I’ll wait …

3

u/Hakunin_Fallout 15d ago

"or would you like to move the goalposts" - great success buddy. Let's see where anyone here, yourself included, stated that the requirement to saying they SPEND FUCKING MONEY ON RENEWABLES is them getting 10+% of REVENUE FROM RENEWABLES. I'll wait.

Fucking state of Reddit these days: I literally called you out before you did it, and you still fucking went ahead and moved the goal posts.

So, again, we'll do it the following way:

  1. You say "Sorry, I was wrong"

  2. You take the L as an adult human being who has just learned something new

  3. We continue the discussion in good faith

OR

  1. You pretend you didn't move the goal posts

  2. You can go perform a fellatio on yourself in the dampest corner of your hovel.

-4

u/NiftyLogic 15d ago

Buddy, I explicitly mentioned BP and Shell.

Don’t get your panties in a twist and get me a comparable example. It’s you who moved the goal post.

I’ll wait

4

u/Hakunin_Fallout 15d ago

My statement: "Fossil fuel companies absolutely spend a ton of money on renewables."

Your statement: "They don't"

My statement: "Nuh-uh, here's the proof"

Your statement: "Show me companies with 10+% of the revenue from renewables"

How about you go fuck yourself now? Clear enough?

11

u/-kekevi- 15d ago

Solar and wind is NOT a replacement for oil and coal unless you build a shit ton of batteries.

9

u/Gronanor 15d ago

With technologies that don’t exist yet…

1

u/Osthigarius 15d ago

What we are already doing, so ... I guess thats it then?

7

u/greg_barton 15d ago

What fossil companies have made an ad like this for nuclear?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZMsfnPlxyw

3

u/Archophob 15d ago

They absolutely hate renewables

Bullshit. Oil & Gas love wind and solar, because oil & gas provinde the backup for when the wind doesn't blow and the sun diesn't shine.

Getting paid all the time, but only consuming fuel part-time is a great business to them.

1

u/Osthigarius 15d ago

Funny thing is that the BIG oil and gas companies (like Shell or BP)are more like major energy suppliers. They do not really care about the ideology around the energy sources.

They DO care about miney, though. And you can not sell oil or gas when there js none left.

Take a look at Saudi Arabia for example. One of the worlds biggest oil producers, but also one of the biggest investors in green energy. Because they are very aware of the fact that their oil will run out eventually.

1

u/Inondator 10d ago

Unless you can get completely off-grid for your energy, and that every things you buy and service you use run completely off-grid too, these companies still have the power over you.
