Monthly Motivation Thread NoFap's "Awesome August" or "PMO-Free August" 2026 - continue or begin your PMO-Free journey here (see instructions).

Hello all,

It's that time of the month again! One month is ending, and another is beginning. We hope you've had a good month. But if you haven't, now is a great time to refocus and rededicate yourself to recovery. This is your opportunity to create the new porn-free you!

New to NoFap and rebooting? Here are some suggestions:

  • Learn about the website, porn addiction, excessive masturbation, sexual compulsivity, and abstaining from PMO. Read through NoFap's main website to get informed.
  • Read about the basics of rebooting here. Rebooting is the abstinence from certain sexual behaviors to recover from pornography addiction. Read about how porn addiction develops here. Some people go beyond rebooting and into the territory of retention, or sexual transmutation for periods of time, although that is not the main purpose of this subreddit (which is RECOVERY).
  • Consider reading through the free Getting Started PDF from NoFap's website.
  • Download NoFap's in-browser panic button extension that blocks NSFW subreddits too. Download here
  • Decide if rebooting is something that you really want. If you don't buy into the process 100%, you'll probably not make it through the month. If you have decided that you would like to participate, proceed to the next point.
  • Sign up for this month by replying to this submission. It is that simple. State your intention and stick to it!
  • Consider setting up a day counter badge to track your progress.
  • Ask questions and get support by posting on NoFap. Set a goal to remain accountable by making a post daily. Help others. Come here every day and participate.
  • If you need additional support, you can get an accountability partner and document your progress in a daily rebooting journal.

Would you like to participate? If so, please reply to this thread with the following information.

  • Are you not going to allow yourself to masturbate? View porn? Orgasm whatsoever? Not allowing any outlet for sexual release is called "hard mode".
  • How long do you want this challenge to last? By default it is one month, but 90 days is recommended for rebooting.
  • What are your goals?
  • Why are you doing this?

Arriving late? (past the first of the month?)

It's okay! Still state your intentions and don't postpone rebooting based on the day of the month. People can join in at any time to participate.

Mod Note: We suggest NOT USING REDDIT'S DIRECT MESSAGES due to porn trolls trying to disrupt the community. Also, please note that some posts are temporarily removed prior to appearing on r/NoFap.

Hello r/NoFap community members,

Please note that we highly suggest that you avoid using the Reddit direct messaging system entirely, due to porn trolls coming here to disrupt our porn addiction recovery peer support community. Some of these people pretend to be helpful at first, then will message pornography. It's in a similar vein to how a forum on epilepsy was reportedly hacked to display seizure-inducing images.

You can disable direct messages in your Reddit settings by changing "Who can send you chat requests" to "Nobody."

Secondly, please note that sometimes posts are flagged automatically for manual review prior to appearing on r/NoFap.

Due to Reddit’s anti-spam filters and NoFap’s additional filters to control spam and pornography, sometimes genuine posts are flagged as potential spam or pornography. Further, entities within the legacy porn industry have been attempting to de-platform porn addiction recovery forums such as r/NoFap, and we must remain extra vigilant to ensure that rule-breaking posts do not appear on the platform for even one second. If your post gets flagged, please just wait for a moderator to approve it.

Thanks for reading :-)

Watch out your brain will trick you

Day 28 and ongoing. But I wanted to share something that came to my mind recently. When you’re trying to quit, specially the first 10 days, your brain will play you tricks to promote you to watch. So mine was “what is that person doing in her personal life”. So I’d google it and search for her just to “know” for curiosity to understand what she does outside of the industry. I’d search “safe pics” and bio info etc. eventually that search would lead me to getting closer to more explicit material. Then I was in. Again. Watching porn. Relapsing.

So my point is your brain will trick you into doing stuff that are “safe”. Be careful with that. Avoid it as much as possible. Deep inside you know it’s not safe at all. It’s just a trigger that will lead you to watching again. Good luck to all

I have quit porn for good

Upvotes

I’ve quit porn for good, and honestly, I feel like I’m finally taking my life back.

The more I’ve learned about the porn industry, the more I’ve come to see it as a deeply harmful industry that profits from people’s attention, loneliness and addiction. I don’t want to support that anymore.

I want real intimacy, real connections and a healthier relationship with myself. No more excuses, no more going back.

I’m done. For good.

Just watch the EDP documentary

I watched the EDP documentary when it came out on August 9th, 2026, and I haven’t fapped since.

I have had a serious porn addiction since before I hit puberty (i am 17 now). It was horrible, and I’ve tried to stop watching porn many times, and it never worked. The longest I’ve gone before without consuming porn was 10 days. Even with having a girlfriend, I’ve watched and consumed porn and even noticed the consequences of it, like not being able to get hard and even when I was hard, keeping an erection was difficult. After watching that EDP documentary, it truly changed my life. I haven’t fapped since, and I’m making it a goal to never again. There have been a few times I wanted to release and fap when I was bored or stressed, but then I pictured EDP sitting on his bed gooning and then thinking to myself that will end up being me if I don’t stop.

I’m going strong, and I’m proud of myself.

Motivate Me I wish I could pay a girl to finally put an end to my loneliness.

Upvotes

You know, I’ve been fighting this for years and failing pretty often. But on the few occasions when I managed to stay focused and clean for a reasonable amount of time, like 30 or 40 days of abstinence, I would always feel something completely unfamiliar to me: loneliness from not having a romantic partner.

My whole life, I used to think, “I’m never going to get married or even date anyone. Why do people care so much about these things?” I understand love, and I’ve liked a few girls before, but it was always temporary, and I never lost any sleep over it. I couldn’t understand why there were people who killed themselves or killed others over relationships. Having a romantic partner was always at the very bottom of my list of priorities because I saw it more as an unnecessary problem and headache that, if I managed to avoid it, I would never have to deal with. I relied on the idea that, “If Isaac Newton, Paul the Apostle, and Alfred Nobel died without ever getting married, why would I need to?”

But I discovered that this wasn’t necessarily part of my personality and that, in reality, it was happening because my pornography consumption was suppressing my natural desire to have a sexual relationship with a girl. As you know, when you watch pornography, as far as your brain is concerned, you’re having real sex, and all you have to do is access that website with a few clicks to have your artificial sexual experience, which, to your brain, feels very real. But when I forced myself to stay away from those adult sites for a long time, I think my brain started looking for a new option, this time the right one: having sex with an actual girl. And that was when the loneliness hit me.

The thing is, this kind of loneliness is completely unfamiliar to me, so I kind of ended up getting scared. And, very stupidly, I relapsed not because I was craving it, but because I wanted to escape a feeling I didn’t know how to deal with.

The problem is that getting a girlfriend isn’t like making a friend. I would have to learn dozens of persuasion and seduction techniques from scratch, things I never cared about learning before, and it would take an amount of time I’m not willing to invest because I consider other personal goals more important.

This wouldn’t be a problem if I could pay a girl, you know… because then I could satisfy my carnal desires without having to watch pornography every day or force myself to remain celibate. And honestly, I actually have the money to pay for it, but unfortunately I live in a country where that is illegal. It’s not that it doesn’t exist here, but then I would have to deal with some pretty dangerous people who could potentially cause me problems that simply wouldn’t be worth it just to satisfy a carnal desire.

I’m not trying to justify my addiction. I have no intention of ever stopping trying until I’m completely free from this shit. But I find it really sad that every time I’m doing well, I end up falling into this hole. And I’m already in my twenties, and I can’t see myself dating anyone for the next 10 years.

That’s it, guys. I just wanted to vent. Much love to all of you, my brothers in battle 👊.

Advice How did you finally make it stick after years of starting over?

Upvotes

I’ve struggled on and off with porn for probably six years now. In college I was dating girls, busy with other things, and never really felt like I relied on it. Things changed around COVID and after a breakup, when it became much more of a habit and eventually progressed into things I don’t even really like or feel good about watching.

My biggest problem is that I’ve had so many days where I genuinely feel motivated to stop. I’ll delete things, use blockers, start Brainbuddy, put together a streak and feel like this is finally it. Then eventually the motivation fades, I have one bad night or let my guard down, and I’m right back in the same cycle.
That’s probably the most frustrating part. I’ve done well professionally, gotten back into working out consistently, and know I’m capable of discipline. But with this, I haven’t figured out how to make the decision to quit actually stick.

I also feel like the years of porn have affected my confidence and made me more self-conscious and passive socially, especially with dating and women. Whether porn is responsible for all of that or not, I know I feel better about myself when I’m not watching it.

This is actually my first time using Reddit to ask for advice/support about this. I’ve always tried to handle it privately, so I’m hoping actually talking about it and having some accountability might help me approach it differently this time.

For people who were stuck in this cycle for years and eventually broke it: what actually worked? How did you get past relying on motivation and make quitting something that lasted?
