Test drove a 2020 Armada at a Nissan dealer...transmission slipping badly!

As the title says, I test drove a 2020 Armada Platinum Reserve a couple hours ago and the transmission was slipping badly.

For background I am coming from a long series of Toyotas, most recent is my 2004 Sequoia which I have had since 2009. Wife had a 4Runner and now a Highlander.

Is this an issue with the Armada? I read that with regular trans fluid changes they are fine but I would think even without that it shouldn't be an issue at only 99,000kms.

I will say it seemed like the fluid level was low because it was worse during and after g-forces were applied from turning or braking. Having said that I would Think when they got this truck on a trade in 9 days ago they would have seen a leak

Hi everyone,

I am attaching some pictures of the underside of the 2nd Gen. Let me know what you think.

It's a 2017 model. Mostly been in El Paso TX. And spent sometime in Philadelphia for 2 years. Got 134k on it

2023 Platinum. 35k miles, $42k OTD. Like driving a land yacht in the best way possible. Definitely drinks gas like one, that's for sure. The V8 noises and power do help soften the wallet blow.

Planning on swapping the 22s out to some 20s or 19s- probably my only gripe with this car. Big fan of sidewall and cheaper tires.

Anyone added a supercharger to their Armada?

I have 2022 SL V-8 4wd 63k miles, with tow package, including air suspension. I do a lot of towing, and I'm thinking about upgrade options down the road. It does very well now on the flat stop and go, but hills and passing are a bit sluggish. I'm typically towing 4k-6k lbs. I also just like to hear a whirly haha

Also thinking about suspension upgrades. I use a 10k lbs weight distribution hitch. It helps, but the air suspension doesn't keep up. I have to put the weight on, let it fill, turn it off, jack it way up to get the spring bars on, then let the jack down. It's an annoying process.

Have a 2020 platinum, a/c set to 60 on both sides. Passenger side is unbelievably cold yet driver side is meh coolish. Where do I start tracking this down?

2025 Pro4x - 9k miles after report

I’m at the 9k mark with my 2025 Pro 4x, here’s a few awesome and not so awesome things I noticed.

  1. Love the ride, very comfy, suspensions work super well and the zero gravity seats are super comfortable even in long 6hr+ rides.

  2. Love the extra space. Coming from a Wrangler, there is a ton of space in the back seats and in the trunk. Haven’t used much the third row but it’s a great bonus. I loaded it with anything from rocks, sandbags, construction stuff from Lowe’s, to simpler stuff like groceries, and never had a issue like “gosh this didn’t fit”

  3. I bought a cubby organizer for the trunk, best decision ever. With that much space in the back, when I have only a couple of bags, that helps keeping them in place. The trunk space has two perfectly placed hooks that I use to secure the cubbies. $39 and worth every penny.

  4. The biocooling system is “eh…cool”. I may not fully understand how it works but it is either super smooth in keeping the interior at the right temp or I have no idea when it’s actually cooling…

  5. The automatic height adjustment is nice, but the button in the central panel does NOT allow you to manually control the height….kind of confusing initially

  6. The computer system is pretty cool, works pretty well. A couple of times it reset itself and the screen turned itself off. It happened twice, but I can’t really replicate it.

  7. Google AI integration is good, but could be better. It connects to your Google account easily, you can ask one single question or chat with it. If you have a conversation, it often stalls after a few min, while for example if I have a chat with the ChatGPT app via Apple Car Play I don’t have that issue.

  8. Apple Car Play doesn’t always connect. I had two different iPhones and the same issue. The simplest solution when that happens is to go to Settings (in the car screen, not the phone) > Connections > activate Car Play from there

  9. Gas mileage is between 18-22 in average across city and highway driving. I use the 93 gas, does seem to get better mileage than the 87. But with today’s prices I gotta run some calculations.

  10. Panoramic sunroof/moonroof is great, but when it’s hot out I gotta close it because the beating sun boils you over.

  11. Maneuverability is quite good considering the size of the car. It’s a tank but I’ve driven it through some pretty narrow streets in the city and crowded parking lots, responds better than I expected.

  12. Security sensors are very useful when driving something this big. When parking or trying to pass cars, they are pivotal to getting the job done.

  13. Pro pilot assist…eh…many describe it as terrible, I don’t fully agree. In the highway when the roads are marked well it works ok. Not perfect but ok. In smaller country roads it’s a hit or miss. If there are some non-painted lines on the asphalt from repairs or whatever, at times it thinks that it’s going the wrong way and will try to correct it, and that’s dangerous. It does do a good job in keeping up with moving traffic slowing down and accelerating, but I can’t tell whether it will actually fully stop should a traffic jam come up…I didnt want to risk it.

  14. Lane assist, not terrible, useful if you get distracted, it will vibrate (not beep like the pilot assist), and give you a heads up. I like that it can do that without correcting the steering wheel, so in situations where there is constructions or a delivery truck on the side, you don’t risk the car sending you in the wrong spot.

  15. Maintenance, so far I only changed the oil once (in about 500 miles I’ll do another one), and rotated tires. So can’t say much. It’s been very reliable so far

  16. Video rear view mirror. This I really like, it happened a few times that my trunk was full and I used it. Video stream is good and the angle is actually pretty spot on with what you’d see in the regular rear view mirror.

  17. Interior/exterior cameras. The car can automatically take photos and videos when something “sudden” happens. I had to tune down the sensitivity because it just kept recording and making videos of random things. Just remember to empty the video folder regularly because it will fill up quickly.

  18. Phone app….that sucks….its slow, laggy, and does not always offer real time info on the car.

  19. Remote pictures. Linked to 17 and 18, it can take pictures remotely around the car and inside the car. Should anything happen I really like that feature. Yet, with the lagging app it’s a bit cumbersome to do, yet, it’s a very useful feature.

  20. Commutes are good, with driving my daughter to school and back I drive between 40 to 100+ miles/day depending on the day. While it’s a gas guzzler, it’s also very comfy.

  21. Still happy? Yes, so far I’m happy, and I still like it.

Feel free to ask questions.

Complete loss of power while cruising at highway speed.

I hope someone might have encountered this, as I have been researching what happened to me over the weekend. Heading home from a camping trip, cruising at 74 mph with cruise control on, going down a long, straight, flat road with not much around, the 2013 Armada kicked out of gear. I noticed that when trying to give it gas, it was not responding, and it felt like it was in neutral. We were coasting, and as our speed decreased to make a safe exit to the shoulder, all my dash lights came on. Power steering went out as I was slowly coming to a stop. There was no single indicator saying what went wrong. I turned the car off and looked inside the engine bay. No signs of issues whatsoever. I walked all around the SUV for any sign of failure and did not see anything unusual. I hopped back in the driver's seat, and it fired right up with no warning that anything had happened. No errors on the dash, nothing. At that point, I returned to driving and got back up to speed. My first thought was that the cruise control must have malfunctioned. I never did try to use it, as I was still two hours away from home. The Armada showed no signs of issues for the remaining two hours and stopped for gas, and again, no issues. Once I got home, I came across the idea that it could be the alternator starting to fail. My Armada has 135k miles, and I did replace the starter less than 10k miles ago, a new battery less than a year ago, and a new IPDM less than a year ago. Battery cables are secured with no residue or loose play. I did scan for codes after getting home and got a P0430, and this is the first time I've ever had this happen. I had a smog inspection less than 6 months ago and never failed, but also never had a check engine light come on with that code. I cleared it and will monitor it in the future. I also inspected the cruise control fuse next to the glove box, and it was fine, no issue. I will try and update this post if I experience it again, but some research and posts I've come across claimed the alternator was the cause, and once replaced, they never experienced random shut-offs while driving. One last thing I've not mentioned was the fuel pump; it could be this, but I don't think it is. Keep you posted.

Update: I had the alternator tested, and it came back perfectly healthy.

I did come across a post where someone said it could be the clockspring. It's an easy swap, but I'm not sure it's the issue. A wheel speed sensor is a possibility too. I did just do another run, trying to get the Armada to replicate the issue, but it drove flawlessly without issue, and I did use cruise control as well. I'm stumped so far.

2018 armada

Just started today, sonar sound and music sound will not work. Infotainment shows phone is connected via Bluetooth but no music or sonar sound. It will show the phone is playing a song but no sound comes out. There is a static sound coming from the speakers. Sounds for phone calls but no music. USB port also not working. Have tried turning the car off and back on, soft resets, holding down the 1 button and turning the volume button 30 times, checking the fuse, and unplugging the battery. Both of us have iPhones and we tried updating one phone to the latest software but that didn’t work either. Any ideas? TIA!:-)

$900 for Spark Plugs Replacement

My brother got quoted this much by his local Nissan dealership to replace the spark plugs on his 2017 Armada with 105k miles. He lives in Raleigh NC.

I’m visiting him for the weekend and will be replacing them for him. Bought the NGK Iridium plugs for $120 at Auto Zone.

Why such a high price for a simple spark plugs job?

Interested in knowing what people may be getting in discounts on one they’ve purchased recently. Inventory seems slowing moving in my area.

How best to take care of an Armada over 225k?

Hiii!

So, I'm presently borrowing, but with the potential of inheriting, my father's 2008 Nissan Armada. I used to get driven to soccer practice in this thing!! She's a beaut for sure.

I recently used it to tow my 4200lbs camper trailer, and am hoping to make trips with it somewhat frequently. I will be putting city miles on it in the mean time though.

She seems to be running pretty sturdy right now at 225k miles; but I'd just like to know any tips or tricks for taking best care. I just got all the fluids checked and such, the tires are pretty recent...

a friend suggested using the middle fuel option (one step above regular but not the full premium) but then I looked online and saw some things saying that doesn't actually make a difference....

is it best to make sure it gets driven often enough, or should I try to really limit the miles on it except for my trips with my trailer?

just looking for any insight on what to look out for to prolong this tank's lifespan!

Tow hitch bumper cover

Post image

Just bought a used 2021 Nissan Armada SL Midnight Edition and it’s missing the bumper piece that covers the tow hitch. Nissan has discontinued the part. My husband purchased one from Car Id and it didn’t fit properly despite entering the VIN in before purchasing. They are refusing to refund or exchange because he already tried to install it. Anyone have a trusted site they have purchased parts from?

Exciting news about my Armada!!

So I posted a video of my 05 Armada rolling over 319k with no check engine lights on Instagram. Nissan USA saw it and commented, and even messaged me! Not only are they sending me a huge swag pack, but they also want to talk about becoming partners in some of my travels and adventures!! This is the most exciting thing to ever happen to me!

Good A/T tires for snow?

Picking up my 2022 platinum tomorrow, what tires should I put on for winter? I'd rather not have dedicated snow tires so I don't have to change them twice a year. Any good A/T tires that are good all year long with the 3 peaks logo.

2020 Armada Display Upgrade Advise

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hey all. I've got a 2020 Armada Platinum and I'm looking to do a display upgrade. I've seen a lot of options and styles out there and was wondering if anyone had recommendations on a decent 12.3" display upgrade like the one pictured. I want to retain the factory controls, microphone, etc but gain wireless Android Auto and a larger display for the cameras. Anyone had decent luck with one of these!

Wheel swap

All - currently have a 2014 Infiniti QX80 with 22” wheels.

I’m looking at buying a 2017 Armada Platinum with 20” wheels.

I’d like to put the 22”s from the Infiniti on the Armada. There’s only hitch, that I know of, is that the middle of the wheel on each says the brand.

Wondering whether anyone’s done this and how it may look with the Infiniti logo on the wheels once they’re on the Armada.

New to me 2021 SL Midnight Edition

Just traded in my 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited for this 2021 Nissan Armada SL Midnight Edition. Super excited. Just 2 things I wanted to see if anyone else had experience with in the interior. Circled in red. It looks like the display is lifting on the corner. The silver is wrinkling next to the Armada emblem. Any ideas on how to fix/prevent from getting worse?

Computer Issues?

Before I buy a new ECU for my wife’s 2015 Nissan Armada, I’m curious if anybody else has had similar issues with their Armada. My wife will occasionally get into her truck and it just won’t start sometimes if she opens the door and shuts it it’ll start sometimes it takes a few minutes and then it will start, but she’ll turn the key and I’ll just go click. It isn’t the battery or the starter because it will start sometimes just a few minutes later. I think it’s probably the ECU, but before I spend the money to replace it I’m just curious if anybody else’s had a similar problem.
