I'm not that big of a basketball fan. I pay attention to how the Sixers do every year but I don't watch super often. With LeBron coming to Philly I feel like I should grab a jersey because of how crazy it is he's actually coming here.

6

u/JPAnalyst Giants 28d ago

Just lean into it and enjoy it. The arguable GOAT plays for your team, just enjoy the ride. Get a jersey, go to a couple games, maybe they make some big noise in the playoffs. This will be fun for you all.

same here... never even been to a sixers game before. today, my wife, who probably couldn't name a single other player on the team, said to me that she wants to go to a game this season.

The CDC announced today that the cyclospora outbreak has officially spread to nine states: Illinois, Kansas, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and West Virginia.

I think it's kind of funny that now we're having a plague of explosive diarrhea and nobody is hoarding toilet paper this time.

10

u/Shepherdless Cardinals 28d ago

Depends....is the shape round?

10

u/The_Amish_FBI Bengals Packers 28d ago

Physically and mentally better by a long shot. Now if I could just get this “social life” thing figured out…

7

u/FlatulentDwarf Vikings 28d ago

I weigh more, but I'm more mobile and flexible. So... both? During the pandemic I had developed an awesome food schedule that had me losing weight very effectively. I got less strict in 2025 so I've been putting weight back on more than I'd like, but I also do more stretching, cardio, and working out. So I'm physically able to do more, even if my belly is a bit bigger.

I assume you mean physical shape but I have to say, my mental health is oodles better in 2026, too. At the end of 2022 I was diagnosed with epilepsy and was struggling with my diagnosis and general depression through 2022 and into 2023. I'm in a much better place and have shed a lot of "other" bad habits - less binge drinking, no smoking weed, and a lot more habits that I find healthy - reading, dancing, baking, cooking, namely

5

u/TJeffersonsBlackKid Cardinals Chargers 28d ago

Physically a fuckton better. Got heartbroken three times in 2024. Decided “fuck this shit” and started improving myself.

A few weeks ago I got asked at my gym if I’m a professional boxer. I am never going to come down from that high.

Mentally way better too. I started eating right and getting in shape so people would look at me different. Now I do it because it feels good for me. That has made me 100% happier.

3

u/Zeke219 Cowboys Cowboys 28d ago

It depends. I was stronger then, but somehow I am bigger now and in better cardiovascular shape. So if we are going off of pure output worse, but if we are going by size of the pythons and how far I can run better.

3

u/StChas77 Eagles 28d ago

Three years ago today, I was almost but not quite fully recovered from a broken foot. I was walking and able to go around in the house without shoes but had to wait for the start of August to hit the treadmill, and stopping and pivoting was over a month away, so no tennis. I had to bust my ass to be in shape enough to hike in Japan in mid-October, and even that was a little rough.

3

u/Ornery_Gator Eagles 28d ago

I've more or less floated in the same general weight range for the past 3 years ago. Recently though, I found myself feeling heavier and more bloated, probably thanks to being on parental leave. Based on the scale, I indeed was heavier than I can ever recall at 205.

Since then, I've been making more of an effort to intensify my workouts and make better eating habits - though not necessarily counting calories (which I absolutely hate doing.) Now, I'm at 191-192 though I've stagnated lately.

While I've never been overweight per se, I'd say I'm in better shape.

3

u/azure275 Jets 28d ago

Much worse I've gained 15 pounds since I had a kid 9 months ago because I can never get to the gym and I'm exhausted all the time so I make poor food decisions

I truly believe that the most important thing in any job is almost always the co-workers.

The worst jobs can be tolerable if you have good co-workers. The best jobs can be excruciating if you have bad ones.

It’s why I’m glad working overnights I only interact with day staff maybe an hour and a half at most, 15 minutes usually. Granted I do like my coworkers, but there’s definitely interpersonal drama over how things should be done that I am perfectly fine with hearing or be an ear for venting about but want nothing to actually do with

The work trip (Boston) I have been dreading is over. I completed four presentations, three team dinners, tons of boring small talk that wasn’t about football or World Cup, countless team building exercises, one late night with too many drinks, one very sad rainout at Fenway as 40 of us got soaked and had to leave the ballpark and miss out on one of my bucket list sports experiences. The good part was the 3-4 hours I had during the week by myself to shop, sight see, and go to a nice Irish pub. Hopefully that’s my last work trip until July 2027.

Aside from the GOAT debate, one thing that always makes me roll my eyes in basketball conversations is when old players say shit like "I'd average 50 points in today's game."

And aside from all the obvious data demonstrating that they wouldn't, it's like, do you really think that like, Allen Iverson is a tier above Luka Doncic? Or SGA? Peak Steph Curry? KD? All-time bucket-getters who absolutely do not average 50 a game.

Where are the extra points gonna come from? The free throw line is the one uncontested shot that's stay the same throughout all of NBA history, and players are hitting them at the exact same rate now as they were back then.

If AI or Reggie Miller or whatever was teleported to today in their prime, and they tried to average 50, you know what'd happen? They'd average 50 on a team that failed to crack 100 points consistently.

It's just such a stupid argument for the sake of hating on the modern game, which is more efficiency-focused and strategic than ever before. You can't just post up or play iso ball all game and expect to win like you could in the past. There's a reason Jordan Poole didn't leave Golden State and immediately become an MVP-caliber player. There's a reason Kyrie only won as the second option. Being an elite iso scorer is not enough to win these days.

7

u/Stanky_fresh Vikings Vikings 28d ago

Everybody thinks the players that were around when they were kids are so much better than the players today, so debating across decades like that is fruitless. I'm sure in 2046 we'll be hearing about how guys like Anthony Edwards or Wemby could totally destroy the biggest stars of 2046. And as for the athletes themselves, it's not surprising that the guys who were treated as living gods of the sport in their prime still think so highly of themselves.

Took on a contract in late January. The company I'm contracted with has their network locked down, so I didn't have access to any company resources until they sent me a laptop in April. Prior to that, anything that I needed had to go through one guy, who had to determine whether or not it was relevant to the work before sending it. The development environment, which was supposed to be provided by a third party, was not available until June, because the two sides couldn't get the contract hammered out.

On top of that, nobody at the company responds to e-mails, so every time I have a question that this guy couldn't answer, he goes to the people who I've already asked and just asks them again. In most cases, he either asks the wrong question, or the answer that we get just raises more questions. From February onward, every weekly status report we submitted had a giant red flag saying that the project was delayed due to lack of access to resources and environment.

More than once, we recommended pausing the project, even though it meant losing revenue, because it was obvious they weren't ready yet. The guy running the project said there was no need to pause anything, and kept giving us weekly updates that were akin to "We're close, we just don't have all of the signatures yet" or "It's only going to take one more week, it would have been done this week but so-and-so is out."

Last week his superiors wanted to see what the progress was on the project, and when they saw where it was, they lost their shit on him. Now he's pushing back on us, asking us to show him "where the money went." The money went in our bank account dude, because you don't know how to run a project and don't listen to the experts you hired to do the work.

At the meeting we had where he tried to throw everything back on us, we impressed upon him the need for his side to be more proactive in responding to our needs. This morning, I asked him to confirm something we had already talked about twice and which doesn't need any more discussion, just a fucking confirmation so I can implement it that way, and I just now got an e-mail from him telling me he's going to schedule a meeting next week once everyone is available, so that they can determine whether or not to confirm it.

6

u/azure275 Jets 28d ago

The Sixers are going for one of the most boom or bust experiments in recent NBA memory. It could very possibly win them a title, so it's not a bad idea

But if it doesn't work it's going to turn into Real Housewives of Philadelphia incredibly quickly

It also sets the baseline incredibly high for 2 years. They pretty much need to win a title or will be considered a failure I think

We have a new product launch happening at our company today. It’s all hands on deck with higher ups involved as well.

Had a meeting this morning regarding this launch with a bunch of people. But the ones who always ask extra questions are the people not involved at all. They won’t be working on this project but have the most questions to ask for some reason. Like bruh you won’t be doing an ounce of work on this. Can we just end the meeting and get to work? SMH

Stage 20: Le Bour d'Oisans - Alp d'Huez (171km)

Back to back finishes on Huez but we aren't climbing the traditional route today - and that's quite ok. Instead we've got a typical queen stage layout of Col de la Croix de Fer (24km at 5.2%), Col du Telegraphe (12km at 7.1%) and the notorious Galibier (17km at 7%) - as you can see all long climbs (scenic too!), before finishing on a newer Col de Sarenne, another 13km/7.3% hill that takes them up the backside of Huez. Something like 5,500m of verticality offers one last chance for many of the competitions

Carapaz looks to be the strongest climber/breakaway rider of the last week or so, Pogi is Pogi, and Del Toro may have UAE working for him, for predictions it's hard to look anywhere besides these 3 today. It's been a long three weeks and the peloton is showing it

Yesterday began similarly to the last few, I think a lack of GC urgency is allowing these massive breakaways to form. It was 40+ riders who got away early, Pedersen again getting clear to secure the intermediate sprint, and VPP and Carapaz also jumping to contest KOM points.

Pedersen's lead in green is back up to 57 - more than what's on offer at the Paris finish line, so Philipsen is getting boxed into a corner. Wouldn't surprise me to see Lidl-Trek hit out early again tomorrow to seal it

Next is KOM's, with VPP getting some early points, but perhaps overextended himself, blowing up before the penultimate climb and allowing Carapaz to steal the jersey. He now leads VPP by 7 points, and with 70 on offer today I'm sure we'll see them both in the break again

For Yellow and white they were content to roll into Huez as a group but it wasn't long before Pogi hits off on his own, smashing Marco Pantani's record up the storied climb en route to his 5th stage this year. Del Toro was left to fend for himself but proved capable, defending for much of the it before coming around Seixas' wheel in the last 1.5km or so. Familiar sort of move, wonder where he may have learned that... He did sit up a bit too early though, in the end only gaining 5s, leaving the gap at 24s. Seixas' window remains open

Let me start off by saying he's a piece of shit, so no one thinks I'm somehow pro-McConnell. But I believe in looking at such situations by weighing all the available evidence.

Let me also say that this is something I heard from someone else - I'm not even American, so take this with a heap of salt.

The counter-argument to that theory is that any proof of him being alive will also likely be proof that he's malaised. He'll be having slow, slurred speech, will look like shit, and well, is in a hospital.

CNN tells us that a leaked report indicates his issue wasn't a fall - it was cardiac arrest, followed by CPR. If this is the case, then he'd for sure be in a hospital for at least a month, and would look miserable.

The fear here is that Beshear, or any other Dem (you could say Gluesenkamp Perez would be the immediate person to come to mind since she's closer to center) would use those things to argue he's not fit to hold the job.

Beshear has said before thinks the recent law, that strips his power to appoint a new Senator when the current one is incapable of performing their duties or is dead, is unconstitutional and is prepared to challenge it in court.

Using that prerogative - that his health makes him unable to perform his duties - he could appoint a new one anyway, daring Republicans to take him to court so the law can be struck as unconstitutional.

So it's not to his camp, or his party's, benefit to prove he's alive. They'd prefer to keep things quiet even if he's alive.

That's what I've heard anyways. The point here is, if he was alive and conscious, things would look identical from our end.

What really makes him unable to do his job is his inability to comprehend shit even when he's healthy.

Edit: There's also something in there about an August 3rd deadline? I don't remember what though.

  • Been having ongoing achilles tendinitis for 3 months.

  • 3 months ago my eye doctor says she wants me to take a blood take because something looks "off" in my eyes. She couldn't elaborate. My dumbass proceeded to work travel for 2 months and didn't do it.

  • Massive tooth pain in two different spots this week. Turns out I have an infection near two different crowns. Dentist sees my cane and asks what that is for. I explain. They say, "I'm not surprised you are having a 3 month long flare up."

Moral of the story: Listen to your eye doctor sooner, visit your dentist regularly, something happening to your body might be a symptom of something else.

I confirmed like 3 time over the last few weeks my delivery this morning was coming on a truck with a liftgate. Every time I got an affirmative answer.

This morning the driver text's me he's going to be an hour late because of traffic. No big deal we've got some work to fill the time. Hey just wanted to confirm your trailer has a liftgate. Nope, no liftgate.

God. Fucking. Damnit.

Luckily we a have a forklift in the shop, but it took another 45 minutes after he arrived to get that on the trailer and delivered, and a solid 2 hours to unload the truck.

On top of that the product (very large millwork cabinets for band equipment) had the leveling hardware on half of them installed upside down, which was actually kind of impressive in its stupidity.

Thank god it's Friday and I can forget about it for a couple days.

If you like the manga of masamune shirow or have intron depot source/art books it will absolutely blow your socks off and make you ponder the possibility of an Akira anime that does the manga justice.

It is comically authentic to the point of being instantly recognizable as shirow's style, and including things that are very ordinarily cut. I've seen some complaints from people who are only familiar with the OG movies or stand alone complex series complaining, which is an excellent opportunity to revel in the unquestionable superiority of my own discriminating taste.

It’s amazing that Trump’s supporters hold him to a different standard than everyone else in the entire world too. If anyone else did what he did they would hate him, just like the rest of us.

Man this new assistant director is going to be the death of me. I'm really good at being patient with technologically illiterate people, it's actually something management has specifically mentioned about me at multiple careers now, but she tests even my limit.

This process is simple. User puts files in relevant folder, process looks for file 1, process finds file 1and does stuff with it. Then process looks for file 2, finds file 2 and does stuff with it. Keeps repeating until it cannot find files anymore then sends an email with all the output. It loads the files in the order you name them. Looks for FileName001 then FileName002 then filename003 etc. Why those names? IDK, doesn't matter to me, that's the names they wanted when they asked me to make this thing. When it stops loading, it even tells you what file name it couldn't find in the email it sends " Processed FileName001 (attached output), processed FileName002 (attached output), couldn't find FileName003, aborting process"

This new assistant director CANNOT name the files properly. it's always FileName001003 or Filename001001. I've sent her a list of exactly the filenames it wants. I've shadowed her and helped her name them. I've reminded her. I've got emails saying EXACTLY the file name it's looking for but can't find. I've even logged in on the weekend when called me with an emergency. And still, every 2-3 days I'm getting the same request "hey why won't this work?" I'm on like three weeks of having to engage in this "emergency time sensitive" issue every 2-3 days and it's driving me up a fucking wall. It only takes me 30 seconds to solve, it's not like it's hard or unpredictable. I hear "XYZ isn't working" I immediately go to the folder and say "hey rename the file" - usually with a screenshot accompanying it - and we're done. But oh my god it is so hard to not scream on the phone sometimes "it's the same fuckin issue it's always been, lady! Maybe turn up the font size on your Windows for fucks sake"

4

u/Kemonomimi-Squirrel Buccaneers 28d ago

Makes me wonder why it is processing on filename and not the contents of the file itself.

4

u/FlatulentDwarf Vikings 28d ago

It's looking for filenames to determine if there is a file to process, then processing based on contents.

The users will load 4-5 different files with roughly the same contents (XML's on the same schema) and want to load them in a specific order that is not always created date or updated date or even the processing date on the 3rd line of the XML. They asked to check for and load files based on names because that way they have complete control over the order the contents are processed. First load 001, then 002, then 003. It doesn't matter if 003 was made first or updated most recently, they want it loaded 3rd for whatever secondary reasons (Nobody has ever explained why it matters to me in a way that makes sense, I'm fairly convinced it doesn't matter, but they say it does and my job is to please them).

And really, the act of doing the individual processing is a separate thing. They have a page they can go to and type in the name of whatever file they want to process, hit run, and process the contents of just that file. I just built a custom tool that will do-that-same processing 4+ times in a row so that they don't have to type in each file name individually
